DALE JR to retire following 2017 season

Good for him.

Weighing the options of aggrevating past injuries and concussions, this was the right move. Also having wife and possible kid on the way, it's too much of an easy call to make.
 
I'm not a huge Jr fan.. nothing against him.. I do like the guy..

..but it will be a shame watching him most likely get way more attention in his final season than Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart did.

Jeff did get plenty of attention.. Stewart not quite as much.. but his fair share.. I just think they'll make a way bigger deal out of Jr.. He will get much more attention for much a less successful career.

Damned happy the announcement was made after Bristol. But wish he'd waited 'til ole 'deger.....
 
Wow, we all knew it was coming, and I am not surprised, but wow, Dale Jr is retiring , just wow.

Anyways, I am happy for him, I am happy that he is going out on his terms.

Lets get out of a pretty safe 200+ mph car and jump into a 330+ mph car with a bomb mounted right in front of you. He wouldn't have to crash to get a concussion ...a little tire shake or a good blower explosion should do the trick.;):) All jokes aside my hats off to him, he has had a great racing career and I would bet his dad would be proud.

#3 Black GM Goodwrench.... it's really the last chance to ever see that race again. Go out with the mother of all feels. Fans would flip sh!t if someone other than Jr. was behind the wheel of that. If they can't do that then #8 Budweiser.

If I am recalling correctly, Richard Childless said that paint scheme will never race again, so I doubt will see it , but who knows.

I understood that Richard went to Martha Earnhardt and asked her about using the number 3. She agreed, but with the proviso that the
car NEVER be all black.

Yeah I think she would as well.


Still would have to work some deal out for it to happen, Austin to win a 33 for one race? It would be a huge huge saler for a diecast as well if Jr got into a Black #3

He's done that one before.

I'd rather see a #8 Bud throwback. This is about honoring Junior's legacy. Not his dad's.

To me that's the worst of all worlds. I don't want to see some half-baked combination of numbers sponsors and paint schemes trying to pass itself off as retro. That's why I like what the #2's doing, classic scheme down to the last detail, same sponsor, same number as rusty. Of course that one's a bit easier to pull off.

Yeah I am with you on this - this was just the first thing to pop up online. I personally don't want him to honor his father at any point this season - he has spent a career doing that. Let him honor his own ride... he may not be the best to every strap into a NASCAR but he bridged a gap for a lot of people and carried the sport for many many years.

I recall that also. And for the record, I have and still never want to see Junior in that car.

I mean, how many times does he need to run his father's paint schemes? Poor guy can't escape Sr.'s shadow even in retirement.

Dale Jr. is the one retiring. Not Dale Sr. The paint scheme should commemorate Junior's legacy. It's about him. Gimmie a red #8 Bud car, or something of the like.
 
Being 100% honest, I dont want to see Jr driving a Sr throwback, I want to see Jr driving a Jr throwback, let him have his moment, we have been honoring Sr for a long time, its time Jr get his , for me, I would like to see throwback for his Ac-Delco BGN ride, that would be pretty cool.
 
A couple of things. Junior was really bad off last year thus fueling the rumors about his retirment last year. It's obvious he worked his butt off to come back this year. There's no doubt he came back this year so he could retire at season's end to say he left on his own terms.
