Deegan update

She doesn't sniff Danica in terms of pure talent. Danica was a respectable Cup driver, of course she didn't live up to the hype, but she wasn't a total embarrassment either.

Not being top 20 in Xfinity points is just unacceptable.

Deegan has a lot of raw talent, IMO.

Not enough experience, and a lot of that is her fault. When she was in ARCA, she should’ve been putting in the work Isabella Robusto is putting in now.

Was her success coming up too easy, and she didn't learn how to work for it? I breezed through high school in those pre-AP days, hit college completely clueless, and flunked more often than not for two wasted years.

You are right , she is young enough to regroup , retrain, and retry in the future. She can now focus more on her upcoming wedding .

It’s that combined with AM Racing saying they don’t know what their plans are now. So who knows what’s gone on at the shop.

What’s bad about it is, this Logano deal was good for her. She should’ve been at the track, on the pit box, studying and learning what she can from a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion.

She wasn’t going to make the field at Chicago anyway, and Logano doing exactly what we all thought he would do would’ve bought her a few more weeks of being locked in and not having to qualify on time.

My biggest problem with Deegan since the summer of 2020 has been her character.
 
Remember what happened to Andre Agassi when he married Brooke Shields? Took Steffi Graf to get his head back in the game. Maybe it’s like that for HD. I wish her well and hope she finds her bliss in something…just not more social media.

2018, 2019, 2020, she should’ve been racing every week. When ARCA was off, she should’ve been racing in SRL Southwest or CARS Tour.

Her asphalt experience going into Trucks was minimal, that excuse for her is true. But it was minimal because she (and Brian) chose not to put in the work.

Isabella Robusto is in a car almost every weekend. CARS Tour, ARCA, Toyota sports car races, etc. when she’s not racing, she’s in the gym working out, she’s in the sweat room working on conditioning, she’s working on reflexes, she’s on the simulator.

When Hailie Deegan isn’t in the car, she’s making YouTube videos.

I'd bet she got call from Ford before Logano. What we don't know is who decided to pull the plug on her deal, AM Racing or HailieDeegan LLC? My guess was a mutual decision AFTER she talked to Ford Executives. It wasn't getting better. Time to cut bait.

Probably be a while before we hear the true deal. If ever.

From my understanding, AM Racing was still committed to Hailie Deegan when they put Joey Logano in for this race. They did this to help her!

Which is why this is so bizarre.

If Brian and Hailie don’t want a Cup veteran to evacuate the program and give feedback that helps her, she deserves to fail.
 
So … a guy with 2 Truck Series wins, 30 in Xfinity and 33 Cup Series victories with 2 Championships is better than Ms. Deegan.

Who knew?

While it sounds like a great idea, never seen a driver get temporarily replaced. Temporarily being the operative word. The press release might have that word included but reality usually seems to be different.

I'll be really shocked if she drives anything in NASCAR again this year. Experiment failed.

I can’t think of it off the top of my head, but I think it has happened before.

The one thing I’ve heard time and time again about Deegan is … everyone who has worked with her likes her well enough, and a lot of people believe in her. She DOES have natural talent. And that’s why I think she can come back from all this.

I think the failure falls on people she looks up to in her inner circle. The stuff about her not getting more seat time in 2018-2020 because people in her inner circle thought it would hurt her confidence is the one I can’t shake.

2020, I would’ve had her in CARS Tour and Carolina Pro Late Models. CARS Tour for the experience (yeah, she wouldn’t be top-15 there, but people who don’t follow the tour really don’t respect that it’s the most competitive racing series in America), Carolina Pro Late Models for the confidence boost (I legit think she could’ve won races there).

I’ll keep saying this part: Deegan has a lot of talent, she really does. I’ve seen some of these incidents where she’s saved the car in situations where 95% of drivers would’ve wrecked. Car control and gut instinct isn’t something you can learn, you either have that or you don’t, and she does.
 
You would have to wonder how here contract stands with Ford? or even if she has one? The blue oval may be forced to pay her something yet?
 
What gets me about Hailie Deegan's statement is that some PR rep looked it over and thought it was a good idea to press enter.

She basically flipped the bird to AM Racing, Stewart Haas Racing and Ford Performance.

It didn't seem that incendiary to me, but I have pretty low expectations from press releases, as I think most of you know.
 
I don't even think her statement is accurate. "The only thing I am focused on is getting back to being competitive..." She never was competitive and it didn't seem like she was putting in the effort to improve.

Hailie Deegan REALLY wants everyone to know that her subpar performance is not her fault, and she really wants you to know that the problems lie with everyone else.

Opportunities for her will be more difficult to come by going forward.

What did you EXPECT her to say? We had this conversation last week. Press releases and press conferences exist primarily to spin YOUR version of the truth and to either makes bold proclamations or shift blame somewhere else. Truth and reality are WAY down the list of objectives, if at all......
