All right, I'm over a week behind and need to get to these playoffs. Since most of the top teams apparently like resting their starters at the end of the regular season (I'm torn on that), I'm gonna cheat and not watch everything I'm supposed to watch.

Looking at the scores for last week, I think I'm gonna go for three regular season games out of the 6-7 I'm technically behind: Vegas/Connecticut from Sunday the 15th, Connecticut/Minnesota from last Tuesday, and best believe that I'm 100% watching that Vegas bench take care of Dallas.

I might also watch Washington beat Indiana, if only to see those captivating Mystics and Karlie Samuelson one more time this season and watch them go out with a W in front of a big home crowd. ^_^

I wonder if this person ends up voting for Angel Reese for ROTY or if they were trying to throw her a bone. Either way, it was an unserious vote.

A few of the basketball pages I follow are AGAIN pushing the Co-ROTY because of "Angel Reese's profound impact on the game."

They're STILL trying to push the narrative that Angel Reese is the one driving the league's growth because of Instagram followers. They're literally using the same excuses that Hailie Deegan fans used for years in here.
 
The fact that Chicago submitted Angel Reese for MVP consideration and didn't submit Kamilla Cardoso for ROTY consideration should show how unserious the organization is and furthers my point that they're more interested in Angel, not the big picture.

I really wish Indiana could save Cardoso from Chicago.
 
I just watched that Vegas/Connecticut game from the regular season where A'ja scored her 1,000th regular season point. Seeing her initially celebrate with all her teammates and then tear up afterwards got me. I'm really happy for her.

I have my favorite players and teams, but I truly enjoy seeing these women succeed in whatever it is they're trying to do on the court, no matter who they are or how big or small the particular success is in the grand scheme of things. It can be as big as a star setting a new league record that was once thought untouchable or a humble reserve simply stepping up when their number is called and just making a play on either end. I feel all those moments throughout a game. I love it. ^_^

Not a surprise to see them advance, obviously, but it's good to see that Sabrina bounced back in this series after going through a pretty tough set of regular season games at the end there.
 


Yeah, in slow motion, this looks very intentional. And I'd expect nothing less from Dijonai Carrington, especially since she's been super vocal about her hatred for Caitlin Clark and fans. This is why I say the Fever need an enforcer, especially when they're playing against cheap shot artists like Chennedy Carter and Dijonai Carrington. And this is exactly what A'ja Wilson is talking about when she says these players just get the **** beaten out of them every game.

Everything looks worse in super slow motion. The players obviously don't move at that speed. This wasn’t intentional. Don't take it from the guy who happens to like one of the players you hate, though. Take it from the girl who actually got inadvertently poked in the eye, one of several players who has been inadvertently poked in the eye this season:



Clark echoed Carrington’s comments.

When has Caitlin Clark ever badmouthed another player or accused them of being malignant? LOL.

If you look closely at the video you can obviously see that Carrington didn't hit Clark with her hand or fist, but she crooked a finger to hit Clark in the eye. I believe it was intentional. And I do believe that they are cheap shot artists. They should be putting their energy in trying to be like A'ja Wilson .

Yeah, it could have been a flagrant on DiJonai there. I just don't think it was intentional, particularly given the statements from both the poker and the pokee. Looked like DiJonai had her eyes on the ball to me. I'm assuming the part about Caitlin is a joke/trash talk since I haven't actually watched the game. Correct me if I'm wrong. (Still two games back. I'm getting there.)

The fact that all most folks out there are talking about with regard to the first game is a foul on Caitlin doesn't surprise me, but I hope people end up talking about tonight's game as a whole afterwards. I don’t think it was intentional, but it was unnecessary so I think an F1 was warranted. There was another incident later in the game where Clark swung her arm and knocked Carrington’s contacts out. Neither incident resulted in a foul…that’s WNBA officiating for you. I don’t think that one was intentional either, but it was certainly foul-worthy. I’ll see if I can find it.

Laughing because of the aforementioned bad quality and the brief moment of absolute wildness revealed when the camera panned over to them. LOL. Definitely not enough info there. I'll see the game for myself soon enough, but I'm sure I'll agree with you.

Like I've said before, this is a physical league, man. In terms of contact, it's definitely closer to the '90s NBA than to the modern NBA, and again, it always has been. Your (the general "your") favorite's gonna get touched out there, no matter who they are, and no, it's not always intentional. They just have to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and shoot their free throws if the contact was actually a foul, as they do.

If you're gonna stick around and follow the W, you have to develop some sort of understanding of that. The players who are going out there and taking these hits certainly have that understanding. Given all the accidental eye pokes I've seen just this season alone, I definitely see why Allisha Gray wears those goggles. Quite frankly, I'm surprised that more players aren't wearing them.

I agree with Andy. The Fever needs an enforcer. If fans enjoy watching rough play in the WNBA then recruit a player to return the finger in the eye type crap.
 
What a game between Connecticut and Minnesota last week. My two favorite teams went at it! Great defense that was met by, at times, better offense. It was back and forth down the stretch with each team making big clutch shots/plays. Bridget Carleton sealed the deal for Minnesota with a gutsy long three. Beautiful.



I really don't have a dog in the hunt as far as the championship is concerned and will enjoy watching it play out regardless, but after that game, I selfishly want to see Minnesota/Connecticut in the semis. I know nobody here wants to see that, but it would just be so much fun for me. I wouldn't even care who won it.
 
All right, I'm finally caught up on what I wanted to catch up on and am ready for the playoffs, and before the start of the second round to boot. 👍

As good as the Sun/Lynx game I just talked about was, that Aces/Wings game was probably my favorite game of the regular season. Back when I was still into the NBA, I cared more about individual players than teams, and there was no way I would have watched a game where a coach intentionally rested all their star players. (That didn't become a thing until after I quit following the NBA.)

I obviously have a much different perspective today. I truly enjoyed watching the Aces reserves step up, hustle, and clip the Arike-less Wings while the Aces stars cheered them on from the bench. All of them deserve a shout-out, especially my girl Megan Gustafson. She scored a career-high 24 points, was the player of the game, and got the post-game chat with the announcers. It was all just so wholesome. Way to go, Megan! ❤️



 
I thought that was an entertaining first half. Fever just a bit out matched I think.
Still fun to watch and really enjoying this.
 
Fever missed too many shots within 5 feet in the first qtr. we will see how the second half goes. Like Hotrod says, Mitchell needs to knock down some 3's
 
This team, collectively, was not ready for the moment.

That most recent possession where the whole team just stood around watching Fagbenle try to go 1-on-1 in the post with the shot clock winding down was just pathetic.

All well and good, but fouls need to be called as fouls. Some physicality is certainly expected but the fact that neither of those incidents were called even a common foul is nuts to me. Can’t just have players whacking each other in the head/face without a whistle.
 
The Fever were overwhelmed mentally and physically for the first seven quarters of this series before storming back in the 4th tonight, so there are still positives to take away from this game.

To see this team bond and develop over the course of the season, especially after the Olympics break, was a thrilling ride. They were the first team where the entire starting 5 collectively made their playoff debut together since 2003. They’re gonna have something special in the coming years.
 


This may be too little too late.

They’ve allowed this crap against Caitlin Clark AND Angel Reese all year and their refs practically encourage it. All while there has been constant condemnation of Caitlin Clark fans whenever Dijonai Carrington, who has stoked these flames more than anybody in the WNBA, demanded it.
 
As for the refs, I’ll say it again:

A’ja Wilson herself has been vocal about the goon league crap happening on the court in The W.

Three different clearly flagrant fouls against Clark tonight that didn’t get called.
 
I saw the threat against Carrington just now.

I’ll say it again, the WNBA had all year to stand up to this crap.

It’s a shame that a bunch of MAGA culture warriors on the right and a bunch of race baiters ruined this league for everyone.

Again, I agree with you 100%. We're on the same wavelength. I said "if it gets called as a foul" precisely because we know how these refs can be at times. I'm surprised that those two hits weren't called as fouls at all. From what I've seen, typically any hard contact like that above the shoulders has been called as a flagrant regardless of intent.

I think that like somebody said on Reddit, in a more eloquent, elegant fashion, it's the unfortunate downside of all the increased popularity/buzz. When you become more popular, you inevitably attract more of the dregs. Just gotta continue to enjoy and tune out the noise. It is what it is.
