WNBA

Sign her up for the Chicago Bulls right now. Congrats to her, I’m not so much a fan of the WNBA as much as I’m a fan of her’s however I’ve followed the league as much as I have this year for the first time since I was a kid. Much respect to her and I hope she takes a loooooonnnnggg rest as she’s been playing since Iowa’s season ended in March.

What a shame that she was deprived of this being unanimous because of the Angel Reese cult.

Whoever did this should have their voting rights and credentials revoked.

All sports voting like this should be made public. Absolute coward. Angel was her equal for like first 2 months of season, then Caitlin really took off.

Assuming it’s the same person who voted Angel 4th in MVP voting, they should be fired out of a cannon. It shouldn’t mar what was a generational season, though. It’ll be the first of many, many accolades in her career.

Never heard that cannon line before. :lol2:

To each their own, but caring about the exact breakdown of how the sportswriters vote for these awards is brand new to me. That wasn’t really talked about when I was watching the NBA - or if it was, it was never anything I paid any attention to.

From where I'm sitting, it doesn't matter whether the players win these awards unanimously or by one vote. I'm not gonna remember what the margins were once all is said and done and the players in question have retired and become coaches, analysts, or whatever. For me, Caitlin's the ROTY, end of story. Nothing can diminish or take away from that.

As a great man once said...

It was a big deal when Curry became the first (and only, to date) unanimous MVP in 2016. It was a big deal last week when A’ja became the second unanimous MVP in the W…which is now peculiar in hindsight because I can make a better argument for Clark being unanimous ROTY than A’ja being unanimous MVP. Yeah, it doesn’t really matter, but it gives a nice historical context as to just how special/dominant a player’s season was. But we solider on.

Yeah, I don't think A'ja Wilson MVP should've been unanimous ... ESPECIALLY if Caitlin Clark's ROTY wasn't unanimous.

Agendas were at play and it shows.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I wasn't laughing at your post in its entirety, just at the cannon line, which I genuinely found funny. I respect your opinion, as always.

Again, to each their own. Obviously this is all subjective, and we each get to decide what matters to us. Years from now, I'm absolutely not going to remember whether Caitlin and A'ja won their respective awards unanimously, or by how many votes they won them. I'll just remember that they at some point won the awards.

But the record books will show that it was not unanimous. The point is also that the person that made the only vote for Reese should be barred from voting as it was blatantly prejudiced. It certainly does matter, forever and forever it will show that Clark was not selected by all voters.

Muggle, the exact breakdown of the ROTY vote clearly matters to you guys, not to me - and that's okay. We don't have to walk in lockstep. The record books will show that Caitlin, and no one else, is the 2024 WNBA ROTY. Let's do what FL alluded to and keep it moving.

No three-peat for the Aces. The Liberty are back in the finals. Minnesota and Connecticut are playing their Game 4, which is a must-win for Connecticut. I still have to watch the Minnesota/Phoenix first round series. I'll get around to it when I get some time.

Well, Connecticut won the must-win game tonight against Minnesota. They're gonna settle it in Game 5 on Tuesday night. I can't wait to watch that series. ^_^

Lonescu is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. She does it all. The Liberty are tough to beat.

Like I've said before, Sabrina is difficult to dislike, a battle-hardened, absolute competitor and a class act who has been through the hype grinder and come out okay on the other side. All business during the game, all smiles and sportsmanship afterwards.

I still don't have a real rooting interest in terms of the championship, but a small part of me is hoping that Connecticut makes it through to the Finals, just because NY and Connecticut have both been to the big dance multiple times only to come up heartbreakingly short. Minnesota hasn't won a championship with this particular group, but they've done it four times previously and are one of the all-time great WNBA teams.

Between my two favorite teams, I think the Liberty would probably rather face Connecticut given their head-to-head record against them, but yes, they're going to be tough regardless. Again, as I've said before, I think it's probably now or never for the Sun as they are currently constructed. Should be a fun Finals matchup for me regardless.

ESPN analyst calls on WNBA to get honest about Caitlin Clark

Hopefully this means Kelsey gonna get them dollar dollar bills and re-sign with the Fever.

We'll obviously know for sure whenever Kelsey makes a decision, but I seem to remember her referring to Indiana as "them" in a video about them getting to host the All-Star game next year. At best, that was an odd word choice for someone who wants to stay there. At worst, well...you know.

Minnesota controlled the game all night tonight and it was never really in doubt. Good to see them advance, and I think the matchup against New York should be a pretty fun and interesting one.

Aaw, how cute. ESPN thinks people care about the W when Caitlin Clark isn't playing.

I hope all 570 fans (the W is growing after all) enjoy the WNBA Finals. 🙃

All right, I think it's well past time to start getting caught up on some playoff games. I see that Michael Grady, the Liberty's excellent play-by-play announcer, and Debbie Antonelli, my favorite analyst, called the Minnesota/Phoenix first round series. Let's go. ^_^

Finally finished that Minnesota/Phoenix first round series, which I enjoyed. If this was indeed Diana Taurasi's final season, I'm really glad that I got to see her play again before she hung it up. She can obviously do whatever she wants at this point, but I'm with Debbie Antonelli. When you're the GOAT and are still averaging just under 15 points a game at 42 years old, what's the big difference between 42 and 43? :)

I've (jokingly) thrown shade Phoenix's way at times this season, and they had kind of a rough season with some injuries and whatnot, but I grew to like their group. They're gritty, and they compete. Yeah, they get in their own heads sometimes and lose their composure, but that really doesn't bother me like it used to. It's just how they are, take 'em or leave 'em.

With Tasha Cloud, DT, Kah Copper, BG, and the adorable, feisty Sophie Cunningham on the squad, I'll take 'em. Shout-out to Tasha in particular, who killed it in that series, and to Natasha Mack, who does the dirty work for them off the bench and scored a career-high 12 points in Game 2.

If Phoenix stays together and stays healthy, I think they'll be better next year. Just another team along with Vegas and Washington that I would have been following this year if I wasn't already following three others. Three seems to be my limit.

The WNBA playoff format is changing next year, and I like the changes. The Finals will now be a seven game series. The first round will still be best-of-three, but it'll be a 1-1-1 format, so the lower seed will now get to play Game 2 at home. (The semis will still be a five game series.)

I see that NY just tied it up with Minnesota, 1-1. Taking a quick glance at the box score and summary, it looks like NY had a super hot first quarter, and Bridget Carleton and Kayla McBride didn't shoot the ball well.

I just started watching Game 2 of the Minnesota/Connecticut series and am enjoying it so far, as I knew I would. Hearing Monica McNutt on commentary for Game 2 is a really nice surprise. I saw her interview with Jon Stewart a while back and came away from it liking her a lot. She definitely knows her stuff, and she spoke my language in the interview.

Haven't seen the game yet, obviously, but I just saw the score change over the last 10 seconds. The Liberty might be on their way to a long overdue first ever championship. Good for them.
Either team has blown a 15-point lead in the series now. Liberty trailed almost the whole game until the final two minutes. Hopefully Minnesota bounce back and force a Game 5. But damn, Sab and Stewie clutched up.

As DT and I'm sure countless others have said, it's a game of runs.

It ain't over 'till it's over, but man, it's gonna be awfully tough for Minnesota to beat a team twice in a row that has now beaten them twice, whether they're at home or on the road. I think the Liberty are finally gonna do it this year.

Gotta love the emotion. Just like with Marina and A.T. after Marina's big shot against Indiana, I felt that celebration between Sabrina and Stewie. 🥹

It’ll be tough for sure. Who knows, the road team is 2-1 in the series so far. Anything can happen, but New York definitely has to feel pretty nice right now.

It’s cool to see her getting her moment on the big stage now. She was kinda Caitlin before Caitlin when she was at Oregon, but she never fully got the chance to shine on the biggest stage since COVID cancelled the NCAA Tournament her senior year. Oregon was primed to make the Final Four again that year and it was the season where she swept all the major national player of the year awards and broke a bunch of records. She just didn’t get to build off of that with a deep tourney run like Iowa made this year.

She’s certainly still a star in her own right, has a great shoe deal with Nike, but I think she would’ve already cracked the mainstream a bit more if not for COVID.

Yeah, I see Sabrina as a future, grizzled, hardened, version of Caitlin, after she has been through the initial hype, taken her lumps, been knocked around, and everyone who watches, talks, and writes about the W has finally gotten used to her presence in the league. I remember Sabrina coming in with all the hype a few years ago, just like Caitlin is getting now, and like Paige will get when she comes in.
