2024 Weather

6) @BobbyFord might be able to elaborate better, but one of the catalysts of the Palisades fire is that a large reservoir that could be used to fire the fire, was drained empty and Gov. Newsom has been not-very-helpful in terms of water storage for emergencies...despite fires happening every year.
Don't be silly. Haven't you seen that water is no good for fighting fires?

This is a tough one, it requires math.

i-was-told-there-would-be-no-math.jpg

It's especially difficult when the reservoir is drained and the local government refuses to properly manage the forests.

Didn't read the article, did you?
Didn't watch the clip that I posted. Ya know the one that requires math?
8,000 structures were lost. It takes around three or four trucks on one house structure..so using math lets just say only three trucks per structure.
So 8, 000 X 3 = 24, 000 fire trucks. They didn't have 24, 000 fire trucks in the whole state.

What an odd take.

Do you still claim that water wouldn't have helped?

Or, for that matter, the hundreds of emergency vehicles that they can't afford to repair?

Yo bud...pay attention. They had water...they didn't have enough trucks...remember math? Also with a 100 mile wind they couldn't use their water tankers.
So math again. Zero tankers, times 8000 structures and not having 24,000 fire trucks and a 100 mile wind like a blow torch..now we can get into the weather (climate) conditions if you want to go there.

Keep moving the goalposts

Hurricane force winds. There's not a whole lot you can do.

It's pretty common for fires to break out DURING hurricanes, which unlike the Santa Ana Winds, actually bring water with them.

Also, January isn't normally California's dry season. These wildfires usually happen in September and October. The reservoirs were undergoing maintenance because this is the time of year California does that ... SINCE JANUARY IS NOT WILDFIRE SEASON!

This is an unprecedented natural disaster. It's that simple.

But the people who don't think humans contribute to climate change (climate change is real and we do) and the "nothing we can do" crowd also have to find ways to blame liberal Democrats for natural disasters. Trump blamed Democrats for Hurricane Helene while the MAGA crowd said Kamala Harris used a special weather machine called HAARP to create the hurricane to kill a bunch of Trump supporters in the notoriously conservative city of Asheville.

Eh it would be like railing on Florida for not having enough pumps for a hurricane. It's Disgraceful, not presidential..but some people roll that way while people are hurting some are dead, many lost everything...so lets withhold aid? WTF.

More on the climate, let's leave change out of it as it offends some people. In that area they had one of their wetter winters. In that mountainous rugged area, that caused the vegetation (brush) not trees, over thousands of acres to really grow, and then came an extended drought. 1/8 of an inch of rain in three months, on top of record high heat, 2nd hottest on record since records kept. Then a 100 mile an hour Santa Anna wind on a tinderbox. Mother nature kicks our asses.

This is the part everyone keeps skipping over when playing the Blame Game.

Instead of watching the cable BS factories, I had NBC Los Angeles on and their meteorologists said this was a once-in-a-lifetime wind storm.

Mother Nature is undefeated.

You aren't stopping that, you aren't stopping a tornado, or an earthquake or a hurricane. Yeah sure, steps can be taken to reduce. States everywhere are doing that, but picking the fly specks out of the pepper and playing the blame game does absolutely nothing but rile up certain people who are looking for an excuse to be riled. Keep em riled up, keep em mad and you can control them to do just about anything.

People don't know until they **** around and find out.

I've experienced hurricanes (real ones), tornadoes, flash floods, 78 inches of snow blizzards, and even an earthquake. I can't imagine what it's like to be in the vicinity of a wildfire being propelled by hurricane force winds. Those images last week on NBC LA looked like scenes from a Zack Snyder movie.

Partisan gibberish aside, you are missing the point. A lib went to such lengths to protect a fellow lib that he implied that the lack of water had no effect on fighting the fires. He's wrong.

And some folks see the death and destruction and prefer to defend dumbass politicians.

That's why you make AND FILL reservoirs.
