Legacy to Toyota

...and SHR went to Ford because of that fair business and lack of back stabbing.
SHR went to Ford because Ford threw a pile of money at them, and promised them things Chevy couldn't or wouldn't. From what I understand, if there was anybody growing tired of the HMS-SHR relationship, it was HMS employees, not SHR, and perhaps not even Rick. Barking up the wrong tree on this one. This move was much like the Legacy move to Toyota. A chance to move up the pecking order with a different manufacturer and gain a little autonomy. Curious to see if it works out better for Legacy than it did for SHR. Other than the one shining season where Harvick ultimately laid an egg in playoffs, the Ford experience was pretty much a dud.

I disagree. In their second season with Ford, SHR was the winningest team in the Cup series. The only thing SHR didn't accomplish with Ford was a championship. Switching was a wise decision for them.

Like I said, it was basically ALL Harvick/Childers, and it lasted for ONE season. The other SHR cars and the other seasons were all pretty forgettable. They were much more consistent and good when they had Chevy/HMS backing.

I think the struggles had more to do with driver line-ups. Clint Bowyer was a career journeyman who only managed a couple wins with SHR. Aric Almirola was there just to collect checks.

Losing Kurt Busch was a huge blow to SHR in terms of performance. That car was never the same after he left.

To me it's shocking how much these guys have struggled after switching to Toyota.

Is it hard making it over there without having a JGR alliance? 23Xl has it and doesn't seem to be struggling.

Joe Gibbs Racing might as well be the NASCAR branch of TRD. Toyota/JGR got beat at their own game by Furniture Row... They won't let that happen again.

TRD and JGR have 23XI right where they want them. Competing for wins but not championships. If JGR ever starts to struggle Denny/23XI have that relationship ready to go and ready to jump into becoming a champion caliber team.

JHN didn't make it 5 laps before he found the wall and Jones couldn't get out of his own way the whole race.

Let me be the first to make the 'Deck chairs on the Titanic' analogy. Legacy is the new Rick Ware, right down to the predictable weekly cautions.

It has been a rough first year with Toyota. I thought they'd contend for wins. Instead, they became the new BK Racing. I didn't see that coming.

I think they'll eventually figure it out. Jones has credentials and Nemechek still has potential.

If I’m Jimmie, I’m looking for the nearest exit ramp. I’d be surprised if this was the plan of him being majority owner

If he keeps Nemowreck, I won't be at all optimistic of the change. I don't remember seeing any driver changes.

He’s doing the exact opposite of that.

The guy is a race car driver. Optimism is his natural state.
I hope it works out for JJ, its just really really hard to have sustained success of winning in the Cup Series as a Cup owner, as we all know. I'm always hoping for another team on the grid that has a shot to win each week.

I think that was his plan all along. See how it turns out, most drivers don't make good owners
Heard about one that put his driver in the Championship 4 in his team's fourth year of existence.

Smoke also had success, but in the end we all know how that turned out too. History has a lot more failed owner/drivers than successful ones.

Fixed that for you.

Personally, I hope Johnson’s venture succeeds.

It appears that he has a direction, and is not afraid to make changes to fulfill that direction. A manufacturer switch was grossly underestimated by many. It doesn't appear that Jimmie is panicking. I think WE should have a better understanding of the quality of the organization this year. Part of what makes this sport great, really.

Could a switch to the bowties be in their future?
Thankfully, now way in hell with Cal Wells on staff....and why would they go to the back of the line again? There is no bowtie.....there is The Felon bowtie.....and then crumbs.

Grossly underestimated? lol, from running 25th ish to almost last place lol. OK. Now he is in with a wad of wall streeters for partners. Good luck Jimmie, you are going to need it.

They ran a whole lot better with the bowties. Facts are facts. I think its just hard for anyone over at Toyota to run upper level without a JGR alliance. Clearly TRD support and a JGR alliance are not the same thing

I don’t think the private equity guys were brought in to work on setups and race strategy.

Okay, stick with me on this one. What about a partnership with that Xfinity owner Chevy would love to see get into Cup? Jimmie has the charters, Jr. has the sponsorship clout, Kelley has the management experience.

Nah, that's just the cough medicine talking.
