Legacy to Toyota

Maury Gallagher was in pretty deep. He bought out Petty's debts, Petty owed somebody, I can't remember who, and I think it was around 9 million or more he put in. Now like Petty he is an adviser?

I also have a deep interest in the supply of elite-level race teams, as they are the heart and soul of the sport of NASCAR. Last I heard, JJ and family had moved to London, his kids were attending English schools, and Jimmie & Chandra were enjoying the lifestyle perks of being mostly retired. I guess something has changed...

Hmmm. I wonder if Jimmie thinks the Legacy team might be strategically placed... if and when Jim France runs off the infidels over at 23XI??? Personally, I don't think MJ and Hambone are going to be drummed out of NASCAR. But there is a non-zero probability that Jim France will be allowed to do just that.
 
Pretty sure they moved to London and into a different culture in order to put some distance between themselves and the family tragedy that her mother caused.

If that's what they did and they feel it was best then good for them. It's one of those situations I frankly hope they're able to keep private.

They seem perfectly placed for a new manufacturer entering Nascar in the future, especially with the Petty connection etc.

Seriously? Legacy went to Toyota because The Felon is Chevy....The Felon and nobody else. Jimmie is taking the hard route for the long term....but keep dreaming. Anybody heard anything about Jimmie being unhappy with Toyota? I know, actually sounds very pleased in spite of the struggles.

Did Jimmie, or Petty of Maury say that? I remember the yotas begging teams to help them with their numbers. This is what they got.

Not saying Jimmie is looking to leave Toyota but even if he was you would hear nothing about it from him until it happened. Jimmie is quite adapt at saying the right thing to keep his sponers and manufacturer happy.
 
Is Richard still involved, I may have missed or is he pretty much just the ambassador as in "put out to pasture and we'll call you when we need potential sponsors schmoozed?"

1) Nobody saw Petty dumping Chevy until it happened.
2) This organization has a history of changing manufacturers.
3) As mediocre as they were with Chevy, their performance with Toyota is worse. Admittedly, that isn't necessarily all on the brand.
4) Jimmie came from a Chevy career.

Yes. I’m not saying he is either, just that my personal opinion is that he would be in a great position to do so if that happened and he wanted to. Think long term.

I legit had the same thoughts as what you posted when the news broke JJ is the guy now at LMC. I wonder if down the road JJ taking the reins, charts a path back to Chevy with Hendrick engines, tech and engineers. I mean I hope it works out with Toyota and them but I wouldn’t be surprised if it went the other way too.

I'm definitely NOT saying Legacy is switching manus, only that it won't surprise me if they do.

1. This isn't Petty anymore.
2. As such, this organization has a very short history.
3. They get everything JGR has.....drinking water from a fire house as they say.....they have new people to process what data they have never known.
4. Yes, Jimmie was the face of Chevy (maybe?)....which makes Chevy's unwillingness to match what WE offered him all the more shocking....cuz, The Felon is ruthless.

Why this is even a topic of conversation is beyond me.....Jimmie is getting equal treatment as JGR, and has said how impressed and appreciative he is to Toyota. As much as it would make sense.....and as much as some would love this......Jimmie isn't going anywhere.

I have no idea the gibberish you are saying or the reality in which you live. Here is what I am talking about. They ended up with Legacy.

Toyota Racing Development has been attempting to add more cars to the mix, for awhile. David Wilson has been broadcasting that message in an attempt to find those new partners.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but this is absolutely NOT how I recall this going down when it happened. I distinctly remember an interview saying Wilson reached out to Gallagher, and I also remember wondering if Jimmie was REALLY on board with this, being he was a brand new minority owner at the time. Regardless, I'll say again what I have said before. You put WAY too much stock in what people say in sound bites and press releases. Even if Jimmie was 1000% dissatisfied (not saying he is even 1%) you wouldn't know it until Jimmie had a signed contract in hand from a different manufacturer, and probably not even then. Has Jimmie EVER said a bad word about Chevy during or after the switch to Toyota? Of course not. In a sponsor driven sport PR is EVERYTHING, and the truth is usually a third or fourth consideration. I WROTE a few race team press releases back in the day. 90% bull****. If you don't want to believe me, ask our resident sponsor guru.

If you really think legacy gets equal treatment as Gibbs from Toyota then I have a real nice bridge I would like to sell you.
 
The bottom line is that nobody but a lower line kind of team wanted to go with the yotas. Jimmie and the gang thought they had a good deal so they switched. The numbers showed that they did worse than where they were. Anybody can try to B.S. it, but the numbers don't lie. They aren't changing anything that I have read about except Maury left/bailed whatever. Same drivers so what has changed? Not a hell of a lot.

I think Legacy will have a much better 2025 compared to the last couple of years. 2024 was pretty horrific, Nemechek 34th in points.

Something tells me Jimmie still wants to race regularly. I wouldn't be surprised to see him have solid runs in his 2 scheduled races.

David said specifically on NASCAR Radio that they were well down the path of signing another team when Jimmie called out of the blue....Why would you question whether or not Jimmie was onboard? I distinctly remember wondering why the hell Chevy would even leave the door open to a face of their company....but my wondering doesn't make it a statement of fact.

How could it be shocking? You don't just change OEMs like socks. Jimmie came to US for a reason. He chose the hard way....without an alliance. The vibe that Jimmie settled for Toyota is silly. He got something from US he couldn't get elsewhere....or he would be elsewhere....
