    Truck RACE thread --- Daytona

This. They are advertising false race distances by counting these laps.

RACE thread --- Duel No. 2

When does the clock stop? What is a repair vs a normal pit stop? Would Johnson be on the clock for the rest of the race?

RACE thread --- Duel No. 2

This will undoubtedly lead to shoddier repairs and more risk of injury.

RACE thread -- Duel No. 1

Do these wins count for the Chase?

RACE thread -- Duel No. 1

I would have less of a problem with this if they didn't count laps.

    The new jayski.....

I really don't like the new site. Much like Drudge Report that I visit throughout the day, it condensed many articles into an easily readable format. Also like Drudge, Jayski was pretty much the same as it was in the earliest days of the internet. Bad idea, perhaps it'll go back if enough complain?

    2017 Thursday Daytona Duel Day

About the only change I like this year is the Duel races counting for points. Since they count for partial points, would we still call it a 36 race season or is it 37?

    2017 - Daytona 500 - Pre Race Thread

I was just going to tell my wife to record the Duels, forgetting they were moved to the evening. Glad I looked here.

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

It's Defend NASCAR Day for me, I guess. You do hear people talking about "Super Bowl Sunday" like it is an event. Indeed, many people would say it is an unofficial national holiday. Fox is trying to create the same kinda atmosphere around the Daytona 500. Obviously won't succeed to any...

NASCAR fans offended by Monster Girls

It's refreshing to hear of a company that won't give in to the tantrum-throwing PC minority.

NASCAR stages road course test at Charlotte Motor Speedway

I assume the Charlotte road course isn't 1.5 miles, which would make the announced segment & race length for the fall Charlotte race incorrect. 334 laps on a road course would take forever.

    The cars are too loud

I went to an IndyCar race last year at Road America, where the cars are much quieter (or maybe my NASCAR-related hearing loss is more advanced than I thought!) It was pleasant to be able to talk to my wife, not have to wear earplugs etc., but it just takes away from the fact that these are...

    NASCAR's 1.5 mile problem

All have different banking, Chicago has a curved backstretch.

    The cars are too loud

One of the best things about a race in person is the sound of the cars. You feel it in your bones. I wear earplugs now (and probably damaged my hearing from the years when I didn't) but it's still impressive.

    NASCAR's 1.5 mile problem

Texas and Kentucky are no longer "cookie cutters." The only true cookie cutters remaining are Atlanta and Charlotte (and Atlanta is technically not a 1.5-miler either; hence why they run 8 fewer laps than TX and Charlotte). I'm all for more short tracks, but have generally been pleased with...

NASCAR, once a cultural icon, hits the skids (WSJ)

Absolutely. No other sport has such sycophantic media as NASCAR does. They are more Baghdad Bob than Walter Cronkite.

    segment line-up

Explain to me the incentive not to pit if the wave around is guaranteed within 5 laps. The only exception I would see if is a caution had just come out before, allowing some cars to stay out. Short of that, we will see massive pitting right before the breaks.

    segment line-up

If a caution is known to be coming, and they are doing the wave around on these cautions, we will get to the point that everyone pits before the caution on all tracks except where you can be lapped twice on pit road. That's not new strategy, it's common sense.

NASCAR, once a cultural icon, hits the skids (WSJ)

I will say it is great to see the blame for NASCAR's downfall placed squarely where it belongs. It took a real f-up to kill the golden goose that the Bill Frances built.

NASCAR, once a cultural icon, hits the skids (WSJ)

Was about to come post this. Those who are whistling past the graveyard should take note. WSJ is a serious publication that doesn't deal in hyperbole.
