2014 Bristol - Food City 500 - Pre Race Thread

16th 10 lap average... I didn't watch the last practice so that's about the only info I can give u lol

Yeah that's about how much I know by looking at the Jayski practice speed charts.

Mears first? That gave me hope that Gordon is just playing possum. lol

My guess is that this race is going to take place Monday afternoon. I'm not off till 5, so I probably wont get to see it unfortunately.

Sandbagging in desert terminology :D

So Danica didn't run 10 consecutive practice laps???? She must be happy with her car?

She had better like it... it's the only one she has left unless they went back to the shop and fetched her another one.:)

She sure asks for a lot on the radio, and it was confusing to me. She said she was tight, tight, tight, but she asked for more rear grip to keep the back from sliding out toward the wall on exit. o_O

I guess I just don't understand this stuff.

Are you sure she was talking about her car?:D

Bristol friends -

By now, I'm sure you've seen Sunday's weather forecast and likely have questions about our plans.

NASCAR has a nearly 70-year history of working with tracks to get races in on the scheduled date. Here at Bristol, we have a track that dries in less than an hour, equipment here to do it and lights that allow us to race well into the evening. We are very hopeful and fully intend to run the Food City 500 tomorrow . If, by chance, that does not happen, we are prepared to race Monday at noon. But that is a backup plan we hope to not need.

We appreciate your understanding and will keep you updated with any new information.

Sincerely,

Jerry Caldwell
Executive Vice President and General Manager

Let me translate:

Please come to the track and stand under the grandstand all day buying food and beer.. Don't sit in your camper and watch the weather on your smartphone.

PS, dont sue if you happen to get struck my lightning or any such natural disasters, thanks for your kind donations, come again Monday.

I still think they only have two days to get this race in. If they can't get it in by Mon night i think they will have to pack up and head to Fontana. But, i hope we don't get the chance to find out if i'm right.:)

What? Has NASCAR ever skipped a race?

I believe I read the major Cup teams have two haulers with one going to every other race. Somebody else might know more.

Nah, they'd probably delay it to one of the off weeks. The New Hampshire race after 9/11 was delayed until the end of the season. I doubt NASCAR would outright cancel a race like that, except in maybe in matters of safety (the CART race at Texas comes to mind, which wasn't NASCAR but still).

Pretty sure you're right... Weren't teams sending out separate haulers loaded with their Vegas cars to meet up with the raceday teams and swap cars after the Phoenix race?

Most teams do not have two complete race haulers, many have test haulers, or they use multi car haulers(Roush) and they swap out cars and equipment at the race track or at another location , and for the Texas , Phoenix part of the schedule , they have in the past swap out cars at the Texas before heading on to Phoenix.

But it being only a 3 and half hour drive back to the Charlotte area, I think most teams would just head back to the shop, but I am sure will might here more about what teams are going to do if the race is postponed

Probably going to be the hardest working crew today @ Bristol.

The above image is an animated forecast map from 8 a.m. EST Sunday until midnight on Monday. Rain arrives between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. EST and continues through the morning and into the afternoon. Some of the forecast models I've looked at try to break some of the rain up as we go into late afternoon and evening. While some of the showers are possible to become more broken and scattered, I feel there is just too much moisture in place today to see any racing at Bristol, that includes racing at night.

Garage already open since teams had no chance to work on cars after practice b/c no garages here.

Forecast little changed for Bristol. Natl Weather Service says 100%chc rain 11-5, then 91% til 8, then 60%. Around 50% Mon day, 43% night.

Yep, getting prepared for a long day of sitting in the rain

That was a weird weekend, eating Thanksgiving dinner at a race track and COLD. Even weirder was Robby Gordon winning.

I know that there's simply no room @ Bristol but that has to suck big time that there are no garages to house these cars when faced with what it to happen today @ Bristol. Crazy thought..... Bruton does seem to have the money to play with but it's too bad that they couldn't build some sort of underground type garage in the infield. No interference with sight lines. Hey, we need something to talk about.

Local weather saying the chance of rain down to 40% at 5pm, so at least there's a glimmer of hope.
