2014 Daytona 500 Pre Race Thread

Thanks. I'll tell her that.

Enjoy the race. I'll be watching it at about 10 this evening.
It goes without saying that the wife and I wish her the best. I'll bet the wife gets just as loud and excited at the games as you do. :D

Supposed to have some wacky weather here tonight, hopefully it doesn't make my DirecTV go out.....again.

Bobby Labonte and Parker Kligerman picked up some sponsorship within the last day or so.

Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast at an RP track. It's not Kenseth and Logano's fault that some small money teams have to pack it up now.

Everyone knows when cars are on the track in a big wod, a big wreck is very likely.

It's like some of you guys need to have a sacrificial lamb to be held accountable whenever anything happens.

All accidents are caused by something, The cause of the practice crash looked real obvious too me and apparently to others as well. When I raced I NEVER rode that way in practice, I wanted to live to race later in the day. Just my opinion of course YMMV

Yes, all accidents have a cause. I understand it was practice and more cautions should obviously been used.
But considering some of the stupid things Kyle has done on the track I'd think you'd be more forgiving when something happens that was more a racing deal as a result of restrictor plate racing, than someone being stupid.

You were smart not to ride that way in practice when you raced. But you can't compare your practice racing to restrictor plate racing at the Cup level.

After watching the duals tonight I'm pretty sure this is how the 500 will go:

Everyone gets in a giant train for the first 495 miles, then the last couple a laps a few people will try to dive down low only see that no one followed them and they'll finish 30+
Then after the race the driver in 15th place will say he tried his hardest to make a move when in reality he just sat on the high line the whole race and didn't bother to help anyone who dare try to form a line on the bottom.

I disagree. We'll see more attempts at making the lines work. If you get a fast car on the low lane pushing another, the momentum should be enough to pass the ones on the high lane. Course, if the leader is Hamiln or Kenseth, they'll block all race. The first duel was fun and the second duel, some drivers in the back were stuipd early on and then once everyone realized they were locked in, why bother risk passing and crashing?

The package is set up where the momentum from the side drafting will have a great effect if you can get a good second line going.

I hope in the race some drivers pick up their balls & form a bottom lane. The lane jockeying is fun to watch & there needs to be a predominate bottom lane if the finish is going to be thrilling

Said this last week all you need to watch is the last 30 laps.

I'm going to change my attitude and hope you are right.:punkrocke

The side drafting Kez pulled off at the beginning was pretty cool to watch, same with Larson he just didn't get the help.

I think it just comes down to whatever line has more cars... Harvick brought up a good point... when the bottom line gets some cars in it its the preferred line.. so why not just run around the bottom instead of the top?

Ditto.. damn I watch every lap of practice lol let alone the actual 500
I have watched everything twice. That's why i have gotten up at 3:30 am two days in a row just to watch everything from the day before, over again. I don't need my beauty sleep...that ship has sailed a long time ago.:D

That was me this morning. Up @ 4am to watch last night's races. Didn't have the chance to watch them live but I did watch them live on DVR, just eight hours later.
