Goodyear needs a NEW TIRE. Is the NASCAR
minimum still 35 psi? The tire was good last year, but the aero not so good.

Set limits: 5 sets for practice/qualifying and 8 sets for the race

Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4708 Right-side -- D-4710

Tire Circumference: Left-side -- 87.44 in. (2,221 mm) Right-side -- 88.23 in. (2,241 mm)

Minimum Recommended Inflation:
Left Front -- 19 psi Left Rear -- 19 psi
Right Front -- 37 ps ; Right Rear -- 34 psi

Notes: NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series teams will be on completely different tire set-ups at Pocono this weekend . . .

... for Sprint Cup teams, these are two brand new tire codes . . . this combination of left- and right-side tires came out of a Goodyear test at Pocono on April 19-20 . . . drivers participating in that test were Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr. . . .

... compared to what was run at Pocono last year, this left-side tire code (D-4708) features an updated construction to bring it into line with what is run at other speedways and a compound change to give the cars more grip . . .

... this right-side tire code (D-4710) features an increase in tread gage (thickness) compared to 2015 . . . this right-side will also be run at Indianapolis later this season . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners on all four tire positions at Pocono . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Jayski's always does a great job with the tire info. It seems Goodyear has been spot on with the compounds and testing.
The minimum pressure differential between RF and LF is almost half. The RF takes a beating.

My girlfriend's first NASCAR race was Fontana this past March. She was asking questions about the tires so I took her down to the infield and a Goodyear tech gave her a hands-on tour of the inner liner description and mounting process.He also answered a lot of questions about compounds and recommend minimal pressures.
Goodyear builds a hell of a tire. These are fast, heavy racecars.
 
Unfortunately I think I am sending my bad weather to Pocono for tomorrow's race. Monday looks good.
 
I am strongly considering taking a gamble and not making the 2 hour drive until Monday. After the tragedy that happened a few years ago I can't see them running much of anything with severe thunderstorms in the area.
The way the forecast looks I highly doubt they'll get any racing in on Sunday.

Perhaps those Nintendo game car setups don't directly translate?
 
With low budgets a 110 lap race would be great Sunday. An extra day is quite expensive. Maybe since it is not on a big TV channel NASCAR will go until 8 pm.

If you stay home, I'd say your chances of being correct are much, much better than when I rolled the dice last week and lost. Even after being burnt last week, in your shoes I'd still stay home today.

See, this is why I keep telling my wife when we retire, we're getting an RV and following the circuit. You don't have to worry about going when you're already there. She just rolls her eyes at me. Spouses; ya know?

Dude that was rad. Very cool tire tech. Mounting and dismounting inner liners like a beast, too.
 
Fog and other weather they have to start running this race latter in the year.

Yeah...talking about girlfriends and all the "mounting" stuff had me thinking about posting a few things...but TRL probably wouldn't appreciate my thoughts...plus it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Yeah she probobably would not have found it funny. Haha

To expand on the story, the tire tech was super cool. We were in a group of 6 or 7 passing the Goodyear area which had a couple techs offering up simple info outside the garage. This guy invited all of us in and spent about 4 or 5 minutes with us.

This may be a common occurrence but I thought it was awesome.

I'm on I 80 about 30 miles west of the track The weather window is very small! Good news is I may have chance to make an impromptu trip to the tricky triangle tomorrow!
 
I could live with a rain-shortened race. Pocono is usually kind of boring (mid-race) anyway.

But of course, Mother Nature doesn't give a flip about what I can "live with"...she does her own thing.
