2018 Charlotte - All Star - Pre-Race Thread

Chase is actually really solid at Charlotte. Even in the struggling Camaro I would expect him to contend for a segment win.

Softer Tires for the All Star

Cup Series teams will run a right-side tire code that had been used as the “option” tire last year in this race. The option tire was a softer tire compound that provided more grip and speed.
As for the left-side tire code Goodyear is bringing, it is new to the 1.5-mile speedway. However, teams have experience with this code, running it last weekend in Kansas.
Both factors will lead to more grip for the cars, which will help with the close quarters racing expected with this rules package.

Against half the field of 0 in the W column, I certainly ****** hope so.

The open race is sorta like the B feature at a dirt track except the three who advance to the A feature have to win one of the three stages in the Open instead of coming in 1,2,3. The explanation works for me anyway. Should be fun to watch.

Why not? They're only running 20 laps or so on a set, aren't they?

Do you have have practice times and what day they will practice and qualify on ?

This one still has me scratching my head...
"In a new wrinkle to previous formats, NASCAR Overtime rules will be in effect for the end of each stage."
I have not seen anything that indicates winning a stage has any significance other than being in the first position to pit. I doubt anyone is going to be racing hard for that. They really should have done something to give the drivers an incentive to win a stage...maybe a free oil change at Jiffy Lube or something.

Think this is so nothing ends under yellow and also applies to the open which each stage determines a winner.

Yeah, but they've been screaming the same forecast all week for us 90 miles to the south, and I've had barely a half-inch since Monday.

Isn’t this the forecast every day in the summer? Lol every summer we head down to either Savannah/Hilton Head or the Smokies and it seems rain is predicted everyday

Dirt track has the WoO tour the Friday before the 600 it will be the most intersting race of the 2 weekends for sure.

When is the last time a car went from 5th to fighting for the win in 4.5 laps?

We need cars like this back.
Ha. It seems that you've joined the Time Traveler Way-Back Cabal? You should know the time machine doesn't work in racing because ya can't unlearn what you've already learned. But to answer your question... last Sunday.

Well that’ll be the last time I fall asleep during red flag :D

Cant remember the last time I was pumped up to watch a practice session. This should be fun.

What is pit road speed practice? Is that to prepare them for qualifying coming full blast down pit road?

Qualifying includes a mandatory pit stop, exempt from the normal pit road speed limit since there's only one car at a time. Pit road speed applies to the races as usual.

I know that, I've just never seen those 2 ten minute practice periods for it before.
