2018 Martinsville - STP 500 - Pre Race Thread

Everytime I go to a race I always plan on staying for monday...simple as that.

Good for you. Many people aren't able to do that for various reasons.

Some can't miss an extra day of work or school. Others can't afford extra hotel room or rental car costs.

I guess I am the only happy camper here regarding the postponement.
1. I had a free Sunday at went to see the races at VIR.
2. The truck race starts early tomorrow. Not a lot of waiting around for the race to start.
3. The Cup race should be over early enough to get back to the hotel for dinner.
4. My truck ticket gets me in both races.
5. There should be plenty of good parking.
6. There should be plenty of leg room.
7. The line for the hot dogs should be short.
8. I am seeing a freaking double header at the best NASCAR track there is.
Works for me!

I’m excited as all hell. See ya there brother!

Unless you are planning on staying, I don’t understand why people go ahead and buy tickets. I live in Knoxville and was considering going until it said it was gonna snow. Tickets are readily available race day, why make the investment if you can’t stay?

In my experience if you are going to plan a trip, plan for all imaginable possibilites (extra money, clothes, etc.) . If a person is not able to miss those things then maybe they should not be taking the trip in the first place. It is a vacation after all. Not a necessity to go to the race.

DIRECTV already updated their programming guide for tomorrow so no need to record eight different shows.
LOL I was literally just bitching about this because Bright house/Spectrum never updates their **** when this happens.

It updated about 2 mins after. :idunno:

Not sure how many people attend races/travel alone like i do.

I could have stayed but I opted out. When I made plans to go to the race I also banked on getting a round of golf in Saturday (rain or shine). I live in Northern PA so i looked at a trip to Southern Virginia as a bit of an early spring "escape" to enjoy some decent weather and get some fresh air. When the Shenandoah Valley was hit by the storm early last week that wiped out the idea of playing on the way down so my original "plan" was already compromised. Then when the rumors of snow hitting Martinsville ramped up the frustration also went up a notch. Still, I drove down yesterday only to find out things were worse than most anticipated. When it became obvious last night there would be no race today I had to make a decision. Personally, I had little desire to hang around a hotel in Roanoke and try to kill an extra 24 hours doing whatever all day today. The only thing I thought of doing if I stayed was to drive to Blacksburg and visit Virginia Tech's campus. I love checking out different college campuses and walking around gettting some fresh air would have been nice. Watching a night game at Lane Stadium is high on my bucket list. However, with the snow in the area that didn't seem like the best idea either. When I go to Kentucky in July I stay in Cincinnati so there's tons of stuff to do for a plan B. Pocono is 45 minutes away so I just head back on Monday. Thankfully you never have to worry about snow! Add in the fact I don't see tomorrow going off without a hitch for those who venture to track I opted to cut my losses. Some times things don't work out which takes away from the "fun factor" which was the case in my situation. When it's no meant to be, it's not meant to be.....

I've been to close to, if not more than, 100 cup races and this will be the first time i EVER miss a race I bought a ticket to.

They can pit before the stages. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a competition caution. I don't think it will matter the race usually has plenty of cautions anyway.

It's a shame for the people that couldn't stick around for Monday but heck, that's part of NASCAR racing. It's something that should always be planed for. Once again, NASCAR looks like they are going to get another race in according to precedent by racing on the next available day. Martinsville on a Monday! Beats the hell outta other Monday's on the calendar.

You of all people should know why it snowed. dpkimmel2001 didn't go.

I'm there in spirit! I've got a friend that I've provided my tickets to for the next three season's including this one. I'll be going back there soon to get this whole weather thing straightened back out.

I'm at work wondering if MRN broadcasts the race via the internet (MRN doesn't broadcast from any stations here). I think I tried in the past for a Monday race and I don't think they provide coverage from their web site.

Just pulled in to lot 14...looks pretty good. There was no traffic at all and I am currently in the first row for parking
There are some muddy areas but not too bad. Ground is nice and firm because it’s cold. I found a spot right by the gravel so hopefully it’ll be easier
Awesome. Looks like we’ll have races.

Not sure why anyone would suggest waiting an entire week to try again.

All the major sponsors/suppliers tore down there midway setups. Ford, Chevy and Monster are all gone. So are some of the smaller ones like tobacco, tracks and radio stations. Basically the only thing left on the midway are the driver trailers and a small STP booth.

Also a question...I guy was filming with MR on the side of the camera. Does MRN do video content?
