2018 Martinsville - STP 500 - Pre Race Thread

So today they were gonna do Cup then trucks so why do trucks then cup tomorrow?

Does Martinsville have room for 2 sets of haulers? That could be why if the Cup haulers are waiting outside the track.

I'm not going to stick around. Between a 2 pm start tomorrow and the fact that everything is going to still be a mess ( not convinced on tomorrow being "good") i'm cutting my losses and bowing out. Good luck to those that stay down here!

Dang sorry it didn’t work out. The forecasters were unfortunately spot on for the weekend.

Because there is such a short window between the two races on Monday, if you have a ticket for either race, you can attend both races at Martinsville

No room for both sets. Barely enough for one.

I just drove to the track. Roads are perfect. No problems there. However…track property is a MESS. No way they could have had thousands of people come here. There would be no place to park (this car in pic is stuck).

Better hit the grass with the jets. Gonna still be muddy tomorrow I’d imagine

Thanks. And what a mess!

They should have rescheduled the race for next weekend. That would have been looking out for the fans and given them an opportunity to reschedule. I hope that the track enjoys giving refunds for tickets.

Oh man it’s going to be a mess tomorrow. Anyone without AWD or 4WD and good tires parking is going to be an issue. And those yards people camp and park in....not sure I would allow people to tear up my yard for the money. Everything made will be spent on fixing the mud hole stomped/driven into it. Ugh.

Don’t the tickets explicitly say so refunds due to weather?

Should have just ran it next Saturday night, I like that idea. That parking area is going to be just as bad tomorrow, no way that’s ready for tomorrow’s races.

Damn. Cant watch any of it tomorrow. Parking wont even be better, and those pictures aren't bad. Dont know if it narrows the space down, but there is nothing about those pictures that say "unable to park here". I see areas like this every year and it doesnt stop anyone from parking

Day ruiner right here. Damn

Love that picture of Bubba Pat , thanks for posting it!

For those at or near the track and are staying to attend Monday,
It will be getting down to 30f tonite and everything wet , moist, or white
will freeze. So just factor that into your logistics equation and good luck.

As far as parking on Monday. Try and park where you at least have 2 tires
on the pavement or gravel. I would not follow a flagmans instructions to come
park in a muddy area. Just saying - after 36 yrs of going to NASCAR events,
I have been there and done that.

No, idea. However, the NASCAR/track rescheduled the race to another day. That's a different thing.
No I think NASCAR and Martinsville have covered their butts on that scenario too. They are getting the race in on the next available day and that’s pretty much all they have promised to do. It’s up to the ticket holder to make themselves available.

Seeings how I'll be at home watching on tv, I'm completely fine with Monday races as I will now be able to watch them both. Even if I were closer to the track and could buy a truck ticket and watch the cup race for free, I probably still wouldnt do it. It'll still be slightly chilly tomorrow.

No snow today either.

Too bad. It's laughable...these people have clearly never been to New England!

If this amount of snow came down in Loudon, they'd probably postpone the race too. The parking lots at NASCAR races are woefully substandard and, as a New Englander you should know this, melting snow is quite muddy and would pretty much screw over everyone who doesn't have a 4 wheel drive. A delay at least gives the track workers some time to work out a solution.

In that situation it would be interesting to see what would happen if the charge is disputed.

NASCAR F'ed this up. Stay out west, do Texas, have Easter break, then come back east. It's far less likely to snow the first week of April, and it's a lot easier to deal with rain.
How did NASCAR mess this up? They have no control over the weather buddy.
