2022 Silly Season

How do you know if he even has a choice to stay or go. I would imagine he is an independent contractor instead of an employee
I was wondering about that… I had an impression that several of the top drivers pick their spotters, or at least have a lot to do with WHO gets picked

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that all of the drivers are the same, independent contractors who are a business under a contract. One of my wags (wild ass guesses) is that Majors getting switched to Kez's car could be out the door at the end of the season.

Agreed.

I agree with another post last night saying TJ could be moving onto a different role altogether somewhere… or at the very least spotting elsewhere in 2022

I guess the idea is to go ahead and let Logano ho ahead and get use to the new spotter rather than wait

Cendric in the 2 next year might have other ideas about who is going to spot for him...or not. I have a feeling Penske has some say about it because he is probably writing the check.

oh wow a curveball. Everyone thought it was slam dunk to 23XI. Who could the second one be
Kurt is still a slam dunk to 23XI.

As to spotters - I would say that most of the time a driver will get the spotter he/she wants. But there are certain occasions where the team will overrule him/her for whatever reason, and more times than not the driver will be ok with it (or at least try the spotter the team prefers). There are very few "fall on your sword" spotter/driver loyalties to the point that there's a fight over it. The combo either works for both parties or it doesn't.

As to why there was a switch at Penske (or anywhere) - honestly, it could be for any reason, and might not even be about racing or results. A lot of times a relationship just falls apart personally for whatever reason. The Beatles are arguably the most successful band of all-time and for some reason decided to break up. It doesn't matter how good the music is if they don't enjoy the process.

Is the rumored 2nd team an actual thing or is it a negotiation tactic, if you are at liberty to say.

No clue. Could be a negotiation tactic - agents are crafty (slimy) that way. Or it could just be a reason to add "suspense" or intrigue to a situation that has none, especially for PR/announcement reasons. Everyone likes a nice long drum roll.

I thought as much. Kurt saying last week that it's a matter of shuffling dates for an announcement. This week says he has two offers...that feels like a way to extend the wait for an announcement while adding the 'intrigue". He'll be in the chase as a Chevy driver, maybe there are incentives in play that the announcement might not align with.

I hear there is a rumor that 23XI (Toyota) might buy Frontrow Motor Sports to get their charters. So, where does the other charter go to. Do you think KBM would start a Cup Team with brother Kurt as the driver? Just a wild thought!

GMS maybe? There's no shortage of teams still trying to buy a charter.

I think the chances of KBM going to Cup anytime soon are less than 1%.

I remember hearing a rumor somewhere. Maybe DBC? Saying its possible 23XI buys both charters and leases one out next year and moves to 3 cars for 2023

Sounds like Kurt is on the truck broadcast tonight. Sure seems like fox is really trying to get him into the booth

Always rooting for new teams who raise the competition bar for the sport. Jesse doesn’t have good numbers at all but I hope he finds success with his own team.

Jesse is a hell of an American but I haven't seen anything to indicate he's got what it takes as far as driving goes, I'd love to be wrong. I'm thrilled to see the two of them teaming up though. It's amazing to see so many teams forming out of thin air lately. It bodes well for the future.

Hard to tell if Jesse has it, but he’s got a story, a great personality, and the ladies like his looks. A whole season in one series, one car should indicate if he’s got it. He’s been doing one off rides here and there, learning and usually bringing it to the finish with a team he met the day before. Im pulling for him, Go Navy!

He’s much better than that equipment. Another young talent relegated to meh equipment due to lack of driver sponsorship.
Erik Jones is the most talented stockcar* driver to be in the 43 for an entire generation. Would be cool if they get more competitive with the next-gen car.

*Honorable mention to Christian Fittipaldi who doesn't have the NASCAR stats but is a wheelman nonetheless.

Matt D talking on NASCAR’s Sirius XM channel at noon. Maybe making an announcement, maybe not.

Never heard of her.

Y’all are joking but I’m actually curious, because I’m a fan of his and want to see him succeed. I’m guessing it’s nothing since I can’t find it.
