2026 Silly Season

I dont see much of a change in switching. Gene doesn't seem to want to put up the money to be top level alliance and chevy has more than enough spread out on manufacturer money that I can't see them throwing much to Haas.

Wasnt haas a Chevy team before Stewart? With Kaulig leaving Chevy soon it seems like a good time for jumping in.

I think if they are a team who gets more resources, they could possibly be a contender.
I'm trying to remember the last single-car team that routinely ran in the top 10. It's obvious Gene doesn't want to be a multi-car team or he'd have hung onto another charter.

A quick look and the last time a team I know only had one car that season (excluding Furniture Row) was Bobby Hamilton who finished 10th in points in 1998 for Morgan McClure.

Gracias, especially since I suspect that took you more than just a 'quick look'! And it's been 30-plus years since Alan Kulwicki notched his title as a single-car team.

I think the financial and competitive advantages of multi-car teams don't leave room for a competitive single-car team anymore, assuming Haas doesn't make move before Dodge comes along.

Proof that Rick Hendrick is a better person than I am. After what went down a few years ago, I would have told Gene to go pound sand somewhere......

You don't have to take every customer who knocks on the door, either. Part of the fun of having F U money is not having to kiss anyone's butt.

More business for the shop. More work for employees. Race engines aren't hamburgers; there's a limited customer base. If HMS supplies Kaulig, that's a customer they'll lose in a couple of years.

It's not that Rick is a better person but he's a better businessman. You don't make F U money in the first place by letting your feelings drive your decisions.

Well, I think people treat you the way you LET them treat you, and if you don't invoke a penalty for mistreatment, they'll likely do it again.

I seem to remember Kenny Schrader finishing top 10 in points for Andy Petree & I think that was before Kenny Wallace in the 55 was a teammate, Don’t believe a word I’ve said though as I’ve had several neurological events since then.

Looks like '97 was his last top 10 in points.

Plug for my recent "article" on the site. Bowman is finishing, on average, about 7.5 spots behind his three teammates. I'm not sure who Hendrick would bring in to replace him, but there certainly is a gap in ability.
HMS are still using Bowman as their experimental driver, that's why the others are winning.
Bowman to final 4 this year.

and maybe get deals on CNC machines for your shop.
“The times have changed but what hasn’t changed is the relationship,” Custer said. “It’s a healthy relationship. Rick has always appreciated good manufacturing and our heritage is in CNC machinery and metal cutting.

“Dive deeper, we have tools at our shop that have value and engineering tools to augment what they’re already doing. There’s a friendship and mutual trust that makes this just make a lot of sense for us.”

Haas Factory Team will continue to operate out of the former Stewart-Haas shop in Kannapolis. Custer does not expect to have an office at the Hendrick campus in Concord but anticipates there being a lot of travel back and forth between both parties as they help each other.

Ultimately, Haas just needed better data to unload with the kind of speed they will need in an era with drastically reduced practice time and a single source supplied racing platform.

“Where we needed help is data,” Custer said. “We need simulation tools to have a predictable car at the track. Ideally, it unloads the way we expect it to based on what we developed in simulation.”
