2026 Weather

All this makes me appreciate how much better the people are in harsher climates; we don't know how to deal with it here in the South.

We have a new carport, and now ice accumulates in different spots on the driveway and yard. I never worried about shoveling snow in the past, but I will going forward to prevent a similar problem.

I got careless and took a hard fall last night on the ice, and I am lucky that I didn't make my past injuries worse. Really sore but improved enough overnight to believe there are no broken bones.

There was still enough ice on the driveway this morning for me to decide to drive my wife to work in the 4-wheel-drive truck. The roads are in good shape; it is all about getting her car out of the driveway in a safe manner now. Too much sliding exiting the carport onto the driveway.

X-Rays for last nights fall revealed 3 more broke ribs

Consider backing across the yard / grass. It may not be ice-coated like the drive. Even if it is, being over the softer ground may cause it to crack under the vehicle's weight and give better traction than the drive.

I tried to do that last week. We had just enough ice on the ramp off the deck to bring my feet from under me. I landed flat on my right forearm and got away with just bruises.
It will be alright (in six weeks) could be worse.
Is there still not much the docs can do for broken ribs other than wrap you and dope you?

It was one if those black ice on a hill deals. My feet flew out from under me, hands up in the air and a direct body slam to the asphalt.

But it could have been worse, no concussion or spinal damage.

The first successful sneeze will tell you, you are about healed. I say successful because, in my experience, I sneezed ONCE with one broken rib and my body said NO MORE OF THAT! If I attempted to sneeze body would just tightened up and squeak out my facial area. Was funny at first. About got addicted to nasal spray...

I don't think so and I only wanted the lower strength stuff, no oxi addiction substances.
I have been injured worse and it is mid level compared to previous injuries.

I am doing the cross walking or weaving at an angle path going forward.
The ice is still there, I tried a few times with a shovel and even a few attempts with a Pick-Axe to break it up, but had to stop.

I am thinking I will get out the hiking sticks for balance support when i leave to pick up Amy from work.

I don't even like the lower strength stuff. Most of them constipate me. Great, I'm still in pain AND I can't crap too. :flushed:

Have you told her yet? Did her response hurt more than the fall itself?

A platform collapsed at work in 2019, broke five ribs on the same right side and had some upper thoracic damage.
That was a lot worse and the first few coughs were screaming bad.

Had a bone density MRI in 2023 or 24, with good results. It is just some bad luck.

She knows and is understanding. She is younger so I try to fake it/make it whatever to keep up.

That's why I tried to shovel it up in spite of being aware of the injury. Because she will get out there even in the dark to finish the job tonight.

She is really small but a trooper. I can't afford to to let up if I am doing something like a weekend brick laying home improvement project because she will jump in there and do it herself (and maybe even better).

I might be a trophy husband but I still have my pride.

Yeah, I married one of those. She shattered her elbow thirty years ago. I'd come home from work to find her doing her rehabilitation exercises and it was a toss-up between whether she was sweating or crying more. Those petite ones are hardcore.

For sure. They are the best.

They affect everybody that way. Like my nurse buddy says they put your bowels to sleep. I took two of them the first day back home after open heart, the rest of them are in my sock drawer lol. Just in case I do something really stupid.
It makes me wonder how someone gets past all that to the point of becoming addicted.

I remember past injuries and telling some folks the pain meds weren't worth it.
Then they would ask "do you have any more of those pain meds? can I have them since you are not going use them?

I would just rather never get the scrip.

Well, I ain't yawning this time @KTMLew01 @Charlie Spencer 😳
NWS isn't calling for freezing rain here, so the electricity (my primary concern) shouldn't be a problem. The snow will give the Terrible Twin Terriers something to enjoy. Darling Bride was saying yesterday, "If it has to be this danged cold, it could at least snow and be pretty!"

Whatever we get, it isn't going away for a couple-three days. Better get your milk and bread.

Some of the models start as freezing rain/sleet then transition to snow. Sleet would be better but still an issue.

If it's a light, powdery snow, we won't have any power problems. If it's a heavier, wet snow, it'll definitely take power lines down. But right now I think they're saying 12:1 which is a very light, powdery snow.
