The Raleigh "forcefield" everyone jokes about showing up on the latest hourly models. This would translate to ~1.2" snow by tonight using a 15:1 snow ratio. We do still expect some snow later but definitely less. Absolutely brutal as texts from friends in pretty much every other city in NC show heavy snow already.

I have electricity and the heat pump and water heater work. I have internet and TV. The terriers have been out for the night and are snoozing on Darling Bride's lap as she watches 'Father Brown'. There's a leftover omelet, oatmeal, muffins, and / or pumpkin pie for breakfast. Come the 15F morning, the dogs will need to go out and I'll have bird feeders to refill, but that's a long winter's nap away.

Life is pretty darn good.

My dog Brownie handles the snow better than the ice. It takes him a long long time to find that perfect spot on the ice. I think he enjoys the snow when it is soft.

Lost power at 6am. Utility says back between 8 and 10. Still 60F in house and 45F in garage. Ran Mazda in garage for 30 seconds to provide some heat for plants. Told Darling Bride to listen for car horn in case I collapse :p
Snow is light powder and easy to sweep / shovel. About 6 inches. Cleared about 10 feet of sidewalk and a couple sq yards of grass of the dogs to pee. Not going for the backyard bird feeders until the power comes back.

"Fellas, it's been good to know ya!"

Power came back at 7:50 after 1 hour 50 mijutes. House only cooled to 59F. Time to nuke that omelet.

EDIT and went back out after a few minutes. Not surprised, I expect a few false starts.

Power came back a second time around 8:10 and is apparently back to stay. House is slowly warming and the dogs are under their blankets. Yesterday's omelet reheated very nicely, thank you.

Once the house comes back up to 70 or so, I'll try getting to the bird feeders.

House is slowly warming as the heat pump tries to bring us up from 58F to 72F. Looks like final accumulation is 6 to 8 inches; I'm not motivated enough to go out and actually measure several spots. Clear sky but expected single digit wind chills for the next two days. Wind is clearing the snow off the live oaks and other evergreens. Probably would be better if it stayed on and acted as insulation for tonight's 12F low. I doubt the trash will be picked up on Monday but we generate so little we can miss a week and not have problems. Darling Bride has an eye appointment Tuesday afternoon about 25 miles away; we'll have to find out if their lot is clear and they're back in operation.

I understand. You were the guy that said I have my good clothes on and I hear my moma calling. :p
Some may enjoy trips to the ER more than I do.

I lived in Upper Michigan for three winters. I got more than my fill of sledding and skating, thanks. This morning reminded me of why I live where it occurs only every few years, and why I make preparations to avoid going out in it when I can. I don't do cold.
