MAX tolerance is 358. Read again.MAX. It wasnt close and even Long didnt appeal the engine size only that he got it 3rd party and shouldnt be responsible

I never claimed that. All I said is they make empty threats. You're the one helping that argument in that both had illegal motors but one got away with it.

You said max is max tolerance, so beyond that is cheating. Somehow one form of cheating isn't really cheating?

Making stuff up again. Nobody "got away" with anything and the appeals process determines the final penalty. Both were wrong and both penalized.
 
I haven't been following the test much, but all I've seen are single car runs. Has anyone tried racing around each other yet?

How is 358.17 "not even close" to 358.00? You're acting like Carl brought a 426 to the track and tried to pull one over on them.

It wasnt .01 .02 .03 .09 .11 .12 .14 .15 .16 it was .17. I dont care how incremental the measurement is its still incrementally more than 358.00 I'm not acting, he was illegal by any standard of measurement.. He might as well have brought a 426

Sticks in my mind it had worn out bores. .006" of an inch over spec on a couple holes. ZERO improvement in HP. Actually likely LESS HP than a good fresh 358. But let the outrage flow.

Doesnt matter its over MAX. No one is outraged at least not me.
 
Nascar has always had a thing about motors, tires and fuel. Long and Toyota paid the price, probably others. Surely you have heard of a go no go inspection procedure.
 
If the rule says 358 then that's the rule. In a machine shop if you miss something by 170 thou that's WAAAAAAY off, it ain't nowhere close. To visualize it's more than an 1/8". Is it going to make any difference? I don't know. But I do know in a modern machine shop if the boss man said don't go over 358 and you turned in something .17 off you'd get laughed out of there. Hell they'd probably laugh you out of a 19th century machine shop. There's really no legitimate excuse for it. And I know it's divided over 8 cylinders. Doesn't matter it's still sloppy work.

It sounds like a lot but that cubic inches not diameter. So that's not much on a diameter considering volume is V=pi*r^2*h. So they probably missed the bore by a couple thousandth.

Still illegal but not grossly missed it like they were measuring with a plastic ruler

Even if it was "only 2 thou" that's still unacceptable and a tad sloppy.
 
Ok yeah but 1/8" *might* make a gain? Maybe? That didn't end up + .17 by honest accident...
 
The last sentence makes no sense.
