500 Qualifying-plus all things Danica

she could win 5 races and the Championship and people would still say she doesn't belong.

I am not saying she does not belong, but she will never win the title, and she will be lucky to ever win a cup race. Calling her mid tier talent is being gracious.

Really, didnt see everyones run, who fcked up?...BTW, I like Danica, I just don't put much stock in 500 qualifying, to me the car is going to run the lap no matter who's driving
not true. Look at the line she was in compared to the rest. Lucky wind? maybe

Yea, you're right, she did stay down on the yellow more than the other guys, ok, I'll give her credit for a strong run, (probably was a strong wind gust also, tho)

Congrats to Danica and she made history....

to Andy and the rest of the Danica haters...NANA...NANA...NANAAAAAA

And you probably thought she would never be on the pole....did ya????

nope, not in a million years, even after she was fastest in practice yesterday

of course, running laps all by yourself is just a smidge different than being out with 42 other cars

and don't confuse me with those that have no use for danica

my gripe is with folks that go out of their way to give her publicity for no apparent reason

i actually hope she does well in cup racing

at least then she'll be at least somewhat deserving of all the attention she gets

The Duels are important. For those drivers who were not on the track last night, you have to see what the draft is like with a lot of cars. Jeff may have run last night, but not long enough to really get a feel for the car in the turbulent air. Danica must run at least some of the Duel to get a feel for how the car reacts. Pulling in at the start may save the car, but for what purpose? If her car isn't "air-worthy", the pole is just a "way to go!"

I'm happy for her winning the pole. It is an accomplishment. But now, the idea is to learn on Thursday and run the whole 500 on Sunday.

Don't be too quick to judge. Trevor Effen Bayne won the Daytona 500....

I think her team deserves the credit, for the driver its just pedal to the floor and don't f*ck it up...jus sayin

She beat Tony and Ryan. Just sayin'...

Could you please a take a moment and set the record straight for those us who are somewhat confused; do restrictor plate tracks matter or not?

They do matter - no matter how I feel about destructor plate races.

Give Miss Thang credit where credit is due! She was the fastest qualifier and the first of her gender to ever win a pole in NASCAR. No matter where she finishes in the 500, she will be Headline News and be mentioned on every TV newscast and be prominently featured on the front page of every newspaper, as well as being a lead story on every search engine!

NASCAR has been suffering through a well-publicized and endlessley-discussed lull in interest - and this "event" will put NASCAR back in the news! Any and all NASCAR fans should celebrate this development because the fact the she won the pole for NASCAR's biggest race will bring a zillion more eyeballs to the Feb 24 telecast on FOX!

More attention means more interest from potential sponsors and additional sponsors will allow more dollars to flow into the sport which will bring about more opportunities for smaller teams to gain those sponsorship dollars - which will ultimately lead to better racing!

THIS IS A HUGE DEAL!!!

Do you follow Kyle on Twitter? He hasn't calmed down a bit. He's comedy gold on there. Except he's funny for the wrong reasons.
Kyle blocked me in 2011 after Pocono when I complemented him on how well he handled losing to a gimp 2 weeks in a row. lol

Not trying to take away from her accomplishment, but everyone (even some in the media) keeps saying this, even though it's incorrect. True, Danica is the first female to ever win the pole position in Cup competition, but has the world forgotten that Shawna Robinson won the pole for a Busch Series race in Atlanta in 1994?

I don't know that anyone forgot. It was mentioned several times last year when Danica won the pole for the Nationwide race @ Daytona.

Last year they remembered, this year they forgot. Headlines abound that say "First woman ever to win a NASCAR pole." I mean, it's a HUGE accomplishment, but that statement is incorrect.

Should we boycott the race until they get their facts straight? ;)

Not going to say Nascar did or didn't, but if they wanted her to get the pole they could make sure she did without her team even knowing it. Honestly if Nascar did rig it for her to get the pole, or maybe even have a fast car for the 500 I don't think I would really care. Nascar NEEDS the help. Whether you are a fan of Danica or not, I think you guy can agree the attention she will bring will be awesome for everyone in Nascar.

The last time someone won the Daytona 500 from the pole was Dale Jarrett back in 2000. This will still be a fact come the 2014 season.

We know that Danica is not the first woman pole winner in ALL of the NASCAR series, but to most of the non-NASCAR people, the only series they know is the CUP series --- because it's the one that gets the most publicity.

She won the pole but there's no guarantee that she'll start the race there.

I think the chance of her winning her Duel Race is better than her wrecking out. Duel races have been lacking over the past few years. Many drives just stay in line and wait for the finish. If she can stay up front, then I think nobody will even try passing her.

That wasn't an argument of mine. VaDirt seems to be taking issue with it.

As far as it being mentioned. I just got done listening to her post qualifying press conference and it was mentioned there. I also just got done listening to SiriusXM NASCAR radio and they are talking about it there as well.

I find it funny that so many people on here have such a problem with her. I don't get it. Maybe after she berates one of the media members or starts skirting interviews I'll change my mind.

If she's got one of the better cars then I hope she drives the wheels off it but if not, she needs to make a decision when things start getting crazy with 10 to go.

My only problem with Danica isn't really about thinking whether or not she can hang with the big boys. My problem is how every time something goes wrong it is never her fault. Or how it seems like everyone is out to get her.

things don't really get crazy in a duel race with 10 to do. Honestly if it is anything like last night's race when they had nothing to lose she will be fine.

I'm not going to beat the dead horse over why I've hated her since she debuted in IndyCar but who gives a rats ass if she or any other drivers berates any of those media members, some of them deserve exactly what they get and the less of them the better (sorry Andy :p )

Jeff Gluck posted a picture of Gordon and Danica in victory lane. The retweets were pretty hilarious. "Gordon is just there because he didn't want to miss an opportunity of being in victory lane with someone shorter than him."

I'm not so sure that many do but rather the supporters seeing anything remotely negative as "Danica Hate" and the critics seeing anything positive as "Danica Hype." It's kind of like watching a volleyball match, wouldn't you say? :D

dpk, I wasn't pointing to you as having an issue with it. I was agreeing with you and pointing out that non-NASCAR people have no clue that there are other series.

Right on! It is like a volleyball, or tennis. Back and forth, back and forth. :D

Sorry, I'm in no way taking issue with Danica. What I am taking issue with is for the same kind of issue that everyone was taking with the media for Kyle's winning numbers being compared to Petty's a couple years ago. Y'all (well, most of you) were all up in arms when Kyle's wins were being compared to Petty's wins. Well, this is the same kinda thing.

I used volleyball as an example there are more people hammering it back and forth at one another.

It's all good for the forum, I'd think :)

Or, it's always her fault. Funny how she can be blatantly taken out (as has happened a few times) and the haters sing the same old tune, "what an overhyped hack, blah blah blah."
