#88 driver announcement - It's Bowman

Kind of my point. Fired by Baldwin--right? I mean, I don't think anybody gave him a second look until he filled in for Jr. Now, the media frenzy has him as the second coming. I think he has a ton to prove. Hope the best for him, really.
yeah he doesn't show up at Hendrick all shiny and new

“I saw on Twitter that I was released," Bowman told The Arizona Republic about his departure from Tommy Baldwin Racing. "I guess he had to do what puts money in his pocket and I understand that.”

My initial reaction was to come in here and ask what exactly makes him so deserving in the eyes of so many in here, but I didn't want to dump on the thread lol. You could argue a guy like Allgaier is more deserving, at least he's won Xfinity races with JRM equipment...

I'm struggling to wrap my head around all the love.

Okay, I think things turned the better for him about two years ago at Charlotte. He was driving the 25 car, he was running for John Wes Townley's team and he was running miles ahead of where Townley would be. Then, that '16 season he had those starts with JRM and Bowman was fast and consistent. It was not often you would see a guy who lacked starts get a top 10 in damn near every start with JRM, he did very well on a limited schedule and that caught the attention of Jr.

Tommy Baldwin did Bowman wrong in firing him, but it was probably the best thing to happen to Bowman. In his limited runs, he did better than advertised with HMS. At Michigan, he had an issue and was gunning for a top 5 finish, had an accident at NHMS with another top 10 locked up, Talledega he was accidentally dumped running in the top 5. Bowman has shown a lot of promise in a short time and I wish him the best. I think he's going to be a pretty good driver and a fresh face for Hendrick's talent pool.

Also, Bowman has only three full-seasons to his resume. Finished top 15 in Xfinity with an ailling RAB Racing and was stuck with BK Racing and TBR... He has huge shoes to fill, I wish him the best and he will be a good addition to the Hendrick stable.

I like the move. Well deserved IMO. Great opportunity for Alex Bowman. I think he will surprise folks never year.

It's rare to see a success story like his in today's motorsports. Fired by TBR, picked up by Hendrick in one of the most iconic rides in NASCAR. Never ever give up. Alex got this opportunity the old fashioned way. He flat out earned it on the race track.

and during this time his dad takes a second mortgage in order to help his son's racing career, and the father's car lot goes broke. The kid knows how to handle pressure.

People are acting like Chase has accomplished nothing to this point, and seem to forget he's 21. He's ahead of where Larson was in his 2nd year.

I will be sure to bookmark your post.

The only thing though, Larson's equipment wasn't always top tier.

Chase is a good driver, but he hasn't shown me that intangible that some drivers have. Blaney has it. Larson has it. Chase is smooth. He reminds me of a young JJ, without that IT factor.

He'll win, but I don't see him being a 50+ race winner, and more than 1 championship.

I think the "best driver" being a Hendrick car ends with JJ and Jeff.

Talk about started from the bottom now we here. What an interesting career trajectory - wasn't touted as the second coming and pushed through a Cup superteam's development program, spent some time with BKR and TBR of all teams, and winds up at HMS. I like the move for that alone. I doubt the guy's going to be elite but his little audition last year earned him that seat.

Bowman will be better then Chase, bookmark this post.
I don't know about that, but time will tell. As far as Hendrick drivers go, I think Bowman will be more in the Kasey Kahne/Dale Jr tier than the Jeff Gordon/Jimmie Johnson tier.

I'm wondering what intangible Blaney has that Chase doesn't? He beats Kyle who was on old tires and suddenly he's a hero? I mean if you go numbers for numbers, it isn't really close. Blaney has the 1 win, could maybe have 2, but Chase has contended for far more wins. It hasn't worked out for him yet, only a couple due to his own doing, but I don't see how anyone can look at the two of them and tell me Blaney has been more impressive.

And Ganassi is a top tier team with top tier equipment, I thought that was established around these parts.

Congrats to Alex, hope he does well and I think he'll be a multi race winner in the next few years. Hard work paid off, I'll be getting a hat or two of his.

I can't if both of them make the play offs, it's impressive for any driver to make it to the first round, lucky winners notwithstanding. Blaney didn't get his win by luck. Blaney IMO ha a more fan friendly personality compared to Elliott, and like it or not in the future that is becoming more important to keeping employed by being a sponsor's darling. Chase is working on it, but Blaney has it.

Your opinion and I respectfully disagree.
