All things relating to Danica -- New season

I thought she did fairly well today. Sonoma is really tough track and she drove a smart race despite battling some handling issues.

Date: June 22, 2014
Event: Save Mart 350k (Round 16 of 36)
Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Location: Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway (10-turn, 1.99-mile road course)
Start/Finish: 11th/18th (Running, completed 110 of 110 laps)
Point Standing: 28th (299 points, 281 out of first)
Winner: Carl Edwards of Roush-Fenway Racing (Ford)

Danica Patrick started 11th, fell to 30th one lap down and then recovered for a solid 18th in Sunday’s Save Mart 350k NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.

Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), started 11th but began falling early on in the race as her tires began to give away grip.

Crew chief Tony Gibson made a few adjustments, but Patrick radioed some bad news: “I don’t think we have a good long-distance car. It drives well for a couple laps, but it just doesn’t hold well.”

In addition, the fenders on her GoDaddy Chevy were damaged from the regular road racing contact, making it difficult for her crew to change tires quickly.

The issues with the car dropped her to as low as 30th-place, one lap down in the last half of the race.

But on lap 75, when the caution came out due to Matt Kenseth’s accident, she was the first car one lap down, making her the recipient of the “Lucky Dog” to get her back on the lead lap.

From there, she pitted twice for new tires and managed to pass enough cars for a respectable 18th-place finish.

“I think we kind of salvaged something there,” Patrick said. “It would be good for a couple laps and then would just go away. We got lucky getting the Lucky Dog and then just pitted a couple of times for fresh tires and fuel and wound up 18th. It’s not the best day, but I think we keep improving.”

Impressed she did not quit. Sometimes Ive seen when a drivers day starts to go south here they just pack it in. She did not./

DF, I like you but this is a bunch of bull****. I've never seen any driver(other than start and parks) park it when things go south. Crews tear apart and repair whole racecars during the race to run around over 100 laps down all day, often.

No one says "we aren't running as well as we were. **** it" it doesn't happen.

You can praise her for a 'solid run' or whatever but don't praise her for not giving up. No one can just give up so it's pretty moot.

I didn't realize until I came here that running in the back of the pack in 31st place and waiting for everyone in front of you to wreck was considered to be a legitimate racing strategy.

I was meaning her, personally.....she was not doing well, and some drivers hate roadcourses. Its easy to tank something when it goes bad. Jr said it...there were sometimes he was not dissapointed that they wrecked at a roadcourse in the past

Sorry for any confusion.

Actually I missed the fact you were talking about that track exclusively. Either way though.. No one with a multi-million dollar sponsorship on their car parks it because they feel like it.

When a driver finishes 18th and it's considered a "solid run", it's a good indicator of where that driver is performance-wise. 18th would be considered a huge disappointment for most of the drivers out there.

+ 1 million. Its the dumbing down of expectations of a driver in top equipment that is horrendously overpaid for her results on the track. Danica does not have the talent to ever be anything but a flash in pan at select races. She will never be able to compete consistently at this level of racing with any regularity. Simply put, Danica is a farce and a gimmick for the sport based solely on her sex. Any male in that equipment would be fired pronto.

Danica needs to seriously consider racing in the truck series or going back to Busch or just take the money and run back to indy cars. She is in way over her head at this level of racing.

I hope she does get it one day, but I just don't see it happening. She has shown slight flashes of improvement this year, but nothing too significant. And to her credit, she was put into a Cup car way too soon. She didn't run remotely good enough in NW to warrant a Cup ride after just two seasons. That was 100% a $ move.

Hey, welcome to the forum dude! Awesome that we keep getting fresh faces round these parts. Hope to see you around :waver:

Ask JR..he uses that strategy at plate tracks...when he tries that is ;)

I'd disagree--her 1.5 mile program is coming along--see Kansas--and an 18th finish compared to 27th or whatever last yr is improvement. I do wish and have said here before that would have liked her to do more Busch time, but we have what we have and I will support my driver.

Apparently, it is an accepted strategy at plate tracks, which is bad enough without bringing it to road courses.

Why does sponsor Go Daddy love Danica Patrick so much?

Because she’s so popular and media savvy that she can use social media to generate buzz about her sponsors.

The social media marketing company Synthesio just released rankings of celebrity endorsers and the role they play in the brand’s social media buzz.

In a season when she hasn’t performed all that well on the track, Patrick is performing exceptionally well off the track. Patrick is at the top of the social media rankings, which were compiled by taking the number of mentions of the brand and the celebrity in the same tweet and dividing it by the total number of mentions of the brand over a 30-day period.

Patrick, who has more than 916,000 twitter followers, generated 12.72 percent of the social media buzz for Go Daddy, according to the Synthesio blog on its website.

A rookie in the Sprint Cup Series, Patrick is just 28th in the Cup standings and has made as many headlines this season for her relationship with boyfriend and fellow driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. as for her performance on the track. But she generates plenty of exposure for Go Daddy by slipping in references to the brand in her tweets.

Among the celebrities tracked, Rihanna was next in generating 3.19 percent of the buzz for Cover Girl and the Miami Heat’s LeBron James produced 1.73 percent of the overall buzz for Nike. The only other celebrity over 1 percent was actor Alec Baldwin at 1.36 percent of buzz for Capital One.

Loïc Moisand, co-founder and CEO of Synthesio, told USA Today that it’s useless for companies to be spend money on celebrities to raise social media awareness — unless it’s Danica.

Moisand says Patrick is successful because she frequently mentions GoDaddy in tweets from her personal handle and because "she appears reachable."

"The best social media isn't scripted," Barb Rechterman, chief marketing officer at GoDaddy, told USA Today. "Danica's the real deal."

I wish she could drive as well as she can tweet, but sponsor love and a popular tweeter is good for the youngsters.

Patrick is 28th in points With top equipment and team, only ahead of 7 drivers that have started as many races in less than average equipment and team

Jr. 3rd in points 5 behind 2nd(Gordon)

You fans of DP deserve a medal for being loyal and i respect that but you need to stop trying to justify her to the world.
As stated before she is a great draw for Nascar, but that's where it ends. Until proven otherwise.

Sorry to crash the party:(:(

I dont think of it as justifying her...I just think of it as fandom. As a fan, I will believe in my driver just as many fans did with other drivers before they started to win. See Jolo, the busch bros, etc.

Is she expecting kids or something?

They shouldn't allow wimmin in racin . They can't drive and should stay home raisin babies . Danica is stupid for racin all her life and jumping into Nascar with no experience . Being a role model to young girls is stupid , why can't young girls look up to Bill Elliott like the rest of us do ?

"wimmin" should do whatever the hell they want to do and if others don't want them in racing, they are 100% free to start their own racing series and not allow men to participate. They can then tell men that they should be home taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, fixing the leaky roof and bringing fresh game for the table.
