All things relating to Danica -- New season

You just shined the light on something that a lot of fans do not realize...and that is how much these drivers have to do off the track between races. A lot of fans think that these drivers doesn't have to do anything between races, but if they have a major sponsor then i guarantee you they do a lot more then they get credit for from the fans. I'm not Danicas manager or travel agent...but i would bet the farm that she probably does more advertising and meet and greets then any other driver in Nascar. In todays big time racing it is not just about what you do on the track. I'm not saying it's right...i'm just saying that's the way it is...and it's only going to get worse.
Follow her on social media. Youll see her off the track activities.

Good race day morning to everyone.

In Guthrie’s August ’77 entry at Michigan, she backed up a 15th place qualifying effort with a 10th place finish, setting the record for women with both marks. It was her second race at the two mile facility in NASCAR’s top touring division.

After failing to equal or beat Guthrie’s historic marks at Pocono in three attempts, Patrick will make a third attempt to become the first woman since Guthrie to record a top ten finish at Michigan.

In her June ’13 entry, Patrick fell three positions short of the record. The August race saw Patrick finish a more familiar 23rd but on the lead lap. She topped the efforts of three other lead lap cars driven by NASCAR icons David Ragan, Casey Mears and David Stremme.

There were times that Danica was very fast today. I watched her quite a bit and was impressed. She raced her butt off today.

Did AJ and Danica have an issue that I don't know about? He was racing her like a total prick. I really like AJ but I wanted her to wreck him.

umm... you're not right. She was in the top 10 for a time because a pack of cars on a different pit schedule pitted and she didn't, giving her that track position. Then she pitted with others and went back to where she had been which was mid pack.
Kinda like JJ did today for the win at Michigan. But JJ's a genius for doing it, but Danica is just a lucky b. for doing the same thing? Boy when you don't like someone they can do no right, nice.

Janet Guthrie’s record withstood today’s furious assault by Patrick in her GoDaddy race car from the drop of the American Ethanol green flag.

Taking advantage of a well timed ServiceMaster Clean debris caution to regain an early lost lap via a free pass, she charged into the bottom of the top half of the field. Patrick finished only 7 positions short of equaling the historic record. The lead lap finish was also her fifth of this season.

Her steady learning is showing. As evidence, her average finish for the season improved from 26.6 at the finish of Pocono to a solid 25.9 today.

On to Sonoma!

I hope that she has learned some from last year..I wish she was better at these courses I like watching them alot

I'm stoked to see how she has improved.
GO DANICA!
GO HENDRICK POWER!

Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway is one of the few tracks on the NASCAR schedule where Danica Patrick has a lot of experience.

Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), has made eight starts at Sonoma dating back to 2005.

Seven of those, however, came in the IndyCar Series and unfortunately won’t offer much assistance to Patrick as she competes in Sunday’s SaveMart 350k NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Sonoma.

Her one visit to Sonoma with the Sprint Cup Series last June saw her start 31st and finish 29th. Her only other road-course race in NASCAR’s top series was last August at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, where she started 35th and moved to 20th.

The IndyCar Series utilized two different Sonoma road-course layouts during the seven years Patrick competed there, and neither is identical to the 1.99-mile, 10-turn configuration she will drive on Sunday.

Patrick is hoping her Sprint Cup road-course racing this weekend goes better than her three road-course appearances in Nationwide Series competition in 2012. All three were memorable, if not downright strange.

In the June 2012 Nationwide Series event at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Patrick was fourth on the final lap when she was bumped into a gravel trap by Jacques Villeneueve, which caused her to finish 12th. Two months later, Patrick finished 43rd at Watkins Glen after Ryan Truex spun in front of her on the start, and she could not avoid his spinning car and made heavy contact with his machine.

But the strangest Nationwide road-course experience of all came one week later when Patrick led 20 laps and was on the point at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal when a fan threw a shoe onto the track on lap 38 of 81. She couldn’t avoid running over it and, shortly thereafter – whether the shoe caused the problem or not – Patrick was forced to pit for mechanical repairs and finished 27th.

At Sonoma this weekend, Patrick is hoping to run a smooth and clean race, avoid any shoes on course, and build upon a solid 17th-place finish she and the GoDaddy team scored last week at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

DANICA PATRICK, Driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing:

How excited are you for some road-course racing?

“I’m very comfortable on road courses. I have a lot of fun. We tested at Road Atlanta a few weeks ago with Tony (Stewart). I have a lot of fun. Hopefully, it goes better than last year. The road-course races weren’t very much fun and they weren’t fun to drive. In the Nationwide Series, I had a lot of fun and led races and ran well. Our cars are a lot better this year and hopefully that shows this weekend.”

What is the key to racing at Sonoma?

“I think, at Sonoma, getting through the high-speed esses comfortably, which leads to a good high-speed balance. Power down is also important there because it is easy for the rear tires to just spin all the time. The fast lap times come from the high-speed balance, so that is the key for me and the GoDaddy team.”

What is the hardest part about road racing?

“The hardest part of road racing is just putting a whole lap together. The hardest part of road racing is just nailing every corner and doing it when it counts.”

You competed at Sonoma in an IndyCar. Will that help you at all in a stock car?

“Other than being familiar with the garage and pit lane, no (laughs). The cars are obviously so different that nothing will translate. It’s just such a different style of driving. This also is a slightly different course than what we ran in IndyCar, so nothing really translates. I’m excited to go out to Sonoma, though. I’ve always liked it out there and, hopefully, we can have a great weekend.”

Yeah I'm sure whichever dumbass threw that shoe just knew sparkle pony was gonna drive right through it.

I thought she was a road course race... I need her to do well this weekend and she's ****tin' the bed already.....

As tight as they have to pull the seatbelts over the chest area...i think smaller chi chi's would be better...larger ones might pay off a little better in the board room, though. Although, Danica doesn't seem to have a problem in there with her smaller chi chi's either.:D

ok....from 31st in practise to 11th.

Tony JR found some speed and Patrick really nailed it. YEAH!

WHO NEEDS PRACTICE?
Danica Patrick's No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet didn't spend much time in qualifying trim on Friday at Sonoma Raceway. In fact, Patrick made only one mock qualifying run during both practice sessions combined.

But that didn't prevent her from advancing to the second round of knockout qualifying on Saturday morning. Patrick was sixth fastest in the first round. In the second, she secured the 11th spot on the grid for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350.

"The GoDaddy car was pretty good," Patrick said after time trials. "We only made one qualifying run yesterday, but it felt good in the opening round today.

"It just got tight in the second session and we ended up 11th. We would have liked it to be better, but we'll take it."

And it gave representatives from her primary sponsor something to look forward to.

"We've got a lot of folks from GoDaddy here (Sunday)," Patrick said, "so I'm happy we are starting up front."

Patrick started 31st and finished 29th at Sonoma last year, so she's already well ahead of her 2013 pace.

Maybe with GO Daddy reps there there an additional fire lit inside her

This might be the day my bold prediction comes true, eh?

I wonder what excuse the neigh sayers would have if she did pull off a top 1 finish. :D

In a matter of hours Patrick will attempt to improve her own record of 29th in today’s 110 lap cup event. Last year’s race proved to be a historic day. As well as her record setting finish, Patrick brought out a full course ServiceMaster Clean caution when she spun in turn ten. The move made her the first woman to lose it on Sonoma’s twists and turns in NASCAR’s cup competition. She also claimed title of the first woman to regain a lost lap in a cup event at Sonoma via the free pass rule a few laps later.

Patrick begins the day at Sonoma starting 11th in the 43 car field with experience gained on the course from her IRL days. In that series, Patrick recorded a 5th place finish in the ’08 event that helped bolster her life time average finish to 13.1 on the Northern California facility. Those IRL/Sonoma events featured an average of 21 cars competing in grueling 70/80 lap contests during her stellar open wheel career.

Her unique talent and the long, relatively slow course with limited places to pass will again favor Patrick’s chances of finishing on the lead lap. Should she reach that plateau, the race would be her second in a row. She has accomplished consecutive lead lap finishes once before in the ’14 season, the only woman to do.

A new milestone in stock car racing was reached at Sonoma this day. Patrick reset the record for women at Sonoma in Sprint Cup. Her top 18 finish is now the standard.

Patrick stayed on course all day. Her brilliant performance, a combination of her superior skill, wave-arounds, pit strategy and only one free pass, coupled with misfortune suffered by competitive drivers, saw her regain all but seven positions lost throughout the race from her 11th place start.

Additionally, she has now recorded lead lap finishes in consecutive races twice this season.

Load that GoDaddy Chevrolet SS up and head to Kentucky!

You forgot to add the fact that she beat her boss and finished 2nd out of the four SHR entries. :beerbang:

Thanks for the response, BF.

You didn't see the sentence containing "misfortune suffered by competitive drivers?" It's there.Try again.

Stay well until next week.

at least Jr has won, Danica doesn't have to win
