The 2018 Daytona 500 will be Danica Patrick’s last NASCAR race (yawn). Does she get too much promotion?

Kevin: Look, Danica survived off publicity, that’s how she got here. She was very popular and had the opportunity to come to NASCAR with sponsorships and made a lot of money; but, in the end, performance trumps the marketing tool. I think you now see that with the quality and the team she’s going to come back and run the Daytona 500 with. The opportunities are a lot less than what she had. I don’t think she gets too much publicity, she’s done things inside of a race car that no female has ever done; but when you are in sports, you must perform. Black, white, girl, boy, it doesn’t matter, at some point that performance is going to matter; in the end, I think that’s the road it went down with Danica.

Thats the honesty of Harvick, thats some tough love... Especially whats quoted and bolded.

Is Harvick the only driver who gets asked about her, or is he the only driver who says anything?

Looks like all of those young guns are sucking up all of the attention. NOT..............

Ya know, Darrell Wallace Jr. Is the first African American slated to run the entire Cup schedule, wonder if there might be a story there in February? Which is Black history month. Also, there's a rookie on the pole, nah nothing to talk about there either. There's also other rookies coming in that look have gigantic potential for the FUTURE!!. again nothi,g to see here. There's also a seven time champ in the field, one of three in the sports history, nah, nothing there. I for one will be glad when Sunday has come and gone, so racers will get noticed. No offence intended toward anyone. NASCAR, motor racing in general is about the only professional sport that has a buy in. If a person can round up enough money, that can participate.

To be fair in any sport money can buy you the best in terms of training, practice time, development etc. In NASCAR it will just literally get you to the highest level. In other sports the talent still has to be fostered. So I get your point and I too cannot wait until the circus leaves town.

Her X team owner had something to say

"We gave her everything we gave everybody else on that team," Stewart said. "She was the one that didn't believe in [competition director] Zippy and me when we told her that Tony Gibson was the right crew chief for her, and she insisted on a different crew chief.

"I've kept that under my belt the whole time. Lately, I'm hearing that she keeps saying that the team didn't believe in her, which isn't right. We all believed in her. But the best crew chief that we had and the best pairing for her was the one she didn't want. She was her own worst enemy in that equation."

It certainly wouldn't go down in history as the first disagreement over who should crew chief a driver, and the results showed the two different crew chiefs she had after Gibson didn't make much of a difference as she continued to struggle behind her SHR teammates.

So Danica said they took Gibson from her in her documentary.

Stewart says she wanted to get rid of Gibson for a new CC.

And Zippy said they made the change to get the 41 more competitive.

So, who's lying? Actually, who cares anymore.:idunno:

I feel it may be Danica. Smoke aint gonna lie and she was always quick to throw the team under the bus

Like I said, who cares anymore? It's over after Daytona. The people who hate her will believe Stewart and her fans will believe DP. End of story.

I think these are also fair quotes from both of them:

Stewart:

"I don't think she was ever really comfortable running a loose car, That's just inherent of anybody that runs an IndyCar, because IndyCars, you're sitting so far forward in those cars that when they get loose, you don't normally save them. These cars just inherently in the last five years have gotten freer, freer and freer."

Patrick:

"We are all unique in our abilities and what we feel. Having a car that is right for you is the most important. I think probably one of the things that hurts me in my lower experience level in stock cars is that I just don't always know what to ask for to either get to that point or make it like that more often."

I don't like it when she plays the blame game, but I appreciate that she is willing to acknowledge that.

I just realized something. I hard Danica mention something in one of her interviews about leaving the sport.. "After the race, I dont go find another racetrack..." I wonder if that factored into the breakup...Ricky is cut of the larson-esq cloth--wants to race and race and race. races for a living, and races for fun. Danica likes more balance...

As another thought...anyone know if SR raced much other than NASCAR? I know he did the 2001 Rolex 24 with JR...

Back in the early days before he became a sports icon, he used to do some stuff, but in the later years, other than running the Daytona Busch race, which he stopped once he started being a regular car owner, he didn't do much if anything. I think he preferred to use what precious little spare time he had hunting, fishing and relaxing.

Thanks for this. I still find it odd, the man in the black car, I used to HATE HATE HATE so much (Rusty, MMfan) I miss so much now.

He would even leave the track, Talladega I know of, fly here in Ga to meet up with Realtree owner Bill Jordon for a little turkey hunt. He loved his hunting.
