An unspoken quality of Elliott is he does not ever blast his team to smithereens over the radio when things go wrong. The entitled brat narrative that some try and put into the universe is simply not true. He handles his business quietly and if he decides he wants a new CC we'll never know whether it was his decision or Rick's/Jeff's.

Pretty awesome relationship it sounds like to me. Big mutual respect. And it is very admirable that Chase doesn’t throw the team or his CC under the bus like a Busch or Harvick.

Listen to their radio. That relationship is worn out. Just because it's normal, and comfortable, doesn't mean it's not dead.

They're a married couple who peaked during the honeymoon, got pregnant, and now feel they need to stay together because they got pregnant. I've sang this tune since mid last season, and the performance, radio energy and the confidence these two inspire in each other continues to decline.

Whether or not they stay together is impossible to know. I don't care what articles say, that relationship is dying and I'll continue to point this out until they inevitably separate.

None. Zero. The exceptions are Zippy and Tony, who lasted 10 years. That relationship clearly deteriorated by year 8 (given their communication), and Jimmie and Chad. Jimmie and Chad almost separated by year 5, had championships and success to fall on, and even STILL, by year 8 they started seeing a liscensed therapist, together, to work on preserving their relationship.

So, they only two championship winning driver/CC combos to last as long Alan and Chase (8 years) were Tony and Zippy, who's relationship declined by year 8, and performance never recovered. And Jimmie and Chad, who almost separated by year 5, and started seeing a therapist by year 8 to preserve their work together.

That's it. No one lasted this long outside of Alan and Chase, except for a pair that declined and never recovered, and the greatest team of all time, who needed professional help to last longer.

And we're gonna pretend that Alan and Chase are a historically great exception to this trend?

I posted my thoughts on the r/NASCAR subreddit and I'll post it here as well.

This hasn't exactly been a stellar year for Chase. He missed the first 1/3rd of the season due to a snowboarding injury and then he was suspended for one race for intentionally wrecking Denny Hamlin in the Coca Cola 600. He had a few Top 10s and Top 5s, but I would definitely say he had a drop in performance this season.

I think the fuel miscalculation came at the worst time for the NAPA #9 team because this was one of a must win race to lock Chase into the playoff. Now they just have to hope that the lottery race at Daytona doesn't come up tilt.

In short, the NAPA #9 team and Chase had a drop in performance and it came to a head at Watkins Glen.

He just is who he is and doesn't try to be somebody he isn't. He is also the son of NASCAR legend and drives the most popular brand for probably the most popular owner. AND 90% of the fans (right or wrong) could care less if he turned Denny into the wall. There's not much downside PR wise from being mean to Dennis.

I've said this in another thread, but I'll say it again. Chase is the last remaining tie to the old guard. The guys that my dad (I'm 37), some of you, and probably some of y'alls parents watched every week. He is a quiet, humble guy from a small southern town whose family heritage is deeply rooted in this sport, it's what this sport was built on and what makes up the core demographic of the fanbase still to this day. Being a goofball, telling jokes, and having a large social media presence is not what makes the NASCAR wheel go round. It never has been. Hell Dale Jr wasn't even as outgoing as he is now until very very late in his career. Nobody questioned that, it was just understood why he was popular. He didn't win a ton but he won a good amount and won some big races. Chase has won at a pretty good clip and even has a cup title. It's really not as puzzling as everyone makes it out to be, the whole personality crutch that everyone leans on is grasping at straws because in reality, the guy doesn't have a lot of flat out unlikeable traits when you boil down to it.
