Not much there other than what Andy said in the topic title.

Maybe buying ARCA broke the bank? :D

Maybe they bought ARCA to increase their assets and become a more attractive buy. Especially to a company like NBC/Comcast.

You know it's bad when even the France family can't stay in the game. That being said, this could be a good thing in the long run. Brian, or whoever the shadow ruler of NASCAR is, have absolutely run this sport into the ground.

This could end really badly, or it could end very very well.

Brian is just a figure head, its his sister and some other blokes that have the control.

It will be interesting to see where this goes if anywhere, like it says, this is just exploratory right now to see if there is any interest.

"Goldman Sachs offered no immediate comment".

If they did they would go out of business. Confidentiality and trust are their two biggest assets.

I think most would agree that NASCAR has desperately needed a fresh start from a leadership standpoint.

Guess we will see where this goes. If anywhere.

I rag on BZF as much as the next guy, but run it into the ground? NASCAR hasn't been anywhere near as badly mismanged and the CART / IRL fiasco.

Yeah everyone celebrating dont you think someone else out there buying will come up with ideas you hate even more then the dead horses you already beat

Yep, this very much a be-careful what ye wishes for type of things. But I think we all can agree that changes at the top need to me made .

I imagine it'll be a media company that buys NASCAR. And NBC/Comcast definitely comes to mind first in that regard.

if somebody was going to buy it, stock prices on both sides would shoot up when the info is leaked..there is your sign.

Sounds like the Frances are trying to get out while it’s worth something. Thanks for ******* it up so bad, guys.

Also, I don’t see how completely selling off to a corporation is going to help achieve anything us fans would want. It’s going to be more business-like than ever.

Pessimistic but it’s how I see it.

Extra annoyed that they just purchased ARCA too.

I don't know. Liberty Media seem to be making progress on several fronts with F1, and have their hands tied when it comes to other issues they want to amend. They generally seem to have good intentions though.

Meanwhile in the sarcastic deathbed thread, some two bit operation is putting their name on a wall at some track for a single race.

this isn’t good. Your favorite sport, which has been family run since the beginning, is going to get bought out by either a media company that will make you beg for the return of the last 15 years, or a bank that will strip it of all of its assets and sell a valueless name in a decade.
  32. Charlie Spencer

I agree that more than likely it will be a mega-media conglomerate. I think that's very bad. Ever since ratings started to tank I feel like the TV broadcast companies have been more involved in many of the "gimmicks" than we think. It's not NASCAR that wants to attract young viewers- it's Fox/NBC that wants them so they can make more money...but it's the perception that "NASCAR" is calling the shots.

In an ideal world NASCAR would be bought by someone involved in racing but unfortunately the sport is too big for that. It will be purchased by a large powerful company. And as Andy said a media company makes the most sense.

    I doubt it, too.

That said, this is exactly why the RTA exists. You can buy the business or its assets but you can't run the races without the teams.

It is interesting that Nascar said today that it had nothing to add to the reports, but a few months ago Nascar said the company was "Not for sale."

Here is what Adam Stern wrote in February...

Kick the tires: Could NASCAR be in play?

Garage rumbles about the future of sanctioning body and its main track operators

    By Adam Stern,
Staff Writer at Sports Business Journal
    February 12, 2018

America’s premier stock-car racing series has been controlled by the France family since its founding in 1948. But as NASCAR’s 70th anniversary season opens with this weekend’s Daytona 500, it comes amid rumblings over what the future could hold for the sanctioning body and its major track operators: International Speedway Corp., also controlled by the France family, and Speedway Motorsports Inc., controlled by the Smith family.

Could NASCAR be sold and its track operators merged or even included in such a deal?

While NASCAR said in a statement that it is not for sale, recent developments have fueled the speculation and it’s been a topic of major discussion along pit road and among motorsports observers. Several NASCAR and ISC executives have taken on dual roles at both companies; the Smith family and NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France have been linked to possible involvement in a bid for the Carolina Panthers; and ISC’s president indicated during a recent earnings report that the company is open to consolidation in the sport.
