Brett Griffin: Garage talk is that AllStar package being used at all tracks next season

Fan and media reactions were overwhelmingly positive to low downforce when it debuted too. Why did that change?
I thought they are running the low downforce package, of course they let the teams get the downforce back and probably have more than they had to start with.

like I said I love it I loved it for the allstar race and think this would be awesome for the mile and halfs and 2 mile tracks but agree leave the short tracks and road courses alone as its no need for it there.

yeah I think the original quote from the garage gossip is hog wash. They won't touch the restrictor plates at the big tracks, makes absolutely no sense to have it where Aero isn't a factor on the smaller tracks or road courses. mostly crowd fear mongering in the garage would be my guess. This have to make another car B.S. is hard to swallow also. They already have 1.5 cars, short track cars, speedway cars, and road race specific cars. ridiculous.

Nascar has been broken for a good while now so I say this is worth a shot everyone loved it for the allstarrace and wanted more now they going to get there wish.
Part of why NASCAR has been broken for a good while is because of the constant gimmicky changes. This is just the next one.

An actual spotter in the cup garage right now is breaking this “news” and his opinion is almost exactly the same as mine based on listening to the guy talking about it. Your opinion isn’t more valid because you might have had a hard card at some point.

Anyways, sorry if I made it too personal but I couldn’t disagree with you more on the subject lol. Take care.
Still, have one, not might.

I'm to the point where not much of nothing the guy has said makes any sense when you analyze it closely but it keeps the interest and discussion going. Having different sized aero ducts is another questionable statement. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how much teams would spend trying to find an edge with each different duct on the car.

Having a different style of race on the same ol same ol track, like they did in comparison with the All Star race to the 600 is an eye opener if they can pull it off.

Simply declaring something as not debatable does not make it so. Even if I were to grant the point only for the sake of argument, what is the purpose of this observation? The cars are much easier to drive today than those of the '90s and prior, so they should be made much more easy to drive again for entertainment's sake?
It was an observation thats all, but it you want I'll drive the 2018 Version Cup Car and you can have Dale Earnhardts 1990 GM Goodwrench car and we will run Michigan. Seriously, its no contest.

yeah when I said 2 mile tracks i meant fontana, michigan, pocno, and indy not daytona and dega.

I don’t like it, Nascar gets farther away from what made it great. There 4 or 5 drivers that I enjoy watching because their skill and talent is greater than the rest of the field. I go to 2 races a year now but will not if this happens. I don’t like watching a race that’s a roll of the dice. I know somewhere Carl Edwards is smiling as he knows he did the right thing.

yeah I know Pocono was earmarked after the All Star race as was Michigan I believe, but there was a rule in place where Nascar couldn't do that unless there is a years notice.

I don't think Harvick thought he was left out :D

Lol, not everyone, definitely not everyone.

If it happens the scoffers will scoff, that is what they do, and the others and the ones on the fence will watch and hopefully enjoy the racing. Bottom line is that interest is being made for all positive and negative with something new and probably more casuals will watch to see what the race is like.

I dont know, you were the one implying I mght or might not so you tell me?

You said you were involved in the sport at some point, I figured you may have had a hard card. you stated you still do. I don’t care one way or the other. Don’t worry it wasn’t a jab at you.

If this actually gets implemented this will have to go down as the goofiest desperation move in the history of the sport. A superlative atop the long list of goofy things NASCAR has done to chase after the non-existant casual fan all while alienating the actual racing fans.

You are correct, I would even expect an uptic in ratings initially. I am also convinced that ratings will drop like a rock once the casual fan gets tired of the new gimmick and the fans they once again displaced are not there anymore.
Obviously this is just my opinion and no one will know for sure till about this time next year.

While watching the Xfinity race at Indy, probably the worst track for Nascar cars to race on, I could care less what package they had, the plate phobia some have, or what speed, or worry about the driver being out of it or all of the other complaints. I was too busy watching the race. I tended to have to make myself myself pay attention to the one lane parade the cup race at the same spot had despite it being one of their best races at Indy in many years. Couldn't quit smiling at the race those Xfinity guys put on. To each their own. But it is coming and it is all over but the crying for some.:D with or without the swearing off forever oaths.

Agreed

Enjoy plates on every 1.5? Get real dude...seriously?
this package is going to make it even better!!
You're being sarcastic right?
The racing at Fontana is awesome.
I can’t wait to see how they F it up.
Oh they will...trust NASCAR to do it.

Yea, nothing like throwing actual racing fans under the bus to try to appeal to the masses with some ridiculous spectacle. In the end, the masses are going to become bored with the "show". Will there be any racing fans left?
To be fair, doesn't this sum up NASCAR since almost the turn of the century? It's about par for the course in that respect.

So are we all moving over to IMSA next year? It's got some awesome looking cars and great racing. If IMSA did an oval like Michigan, Auto Club, or even Indy, that would be awesome.

plenty of other good racing around. If Nascar quit being broadcast tomorrow they would save me a ton of money paying for cable. I would subscribe to the World of Outlaws and be happy as a clam. Why some of the disenchanted around here don't do that is news to me.

I don't think they're anywhere close. They were reportedly running 3500 pounds in 2014 (with high HP), 3200 in 2015, and the 2018 rules release last year stated they were aiming for 1650.

Man I really hope this isn’t true. I already skip watching 3 out of the 4 plate race weekends every year.

If NASCAR implements this package I will get rid of cable, keep dirtvision only and be happy as a clam. It would also save me the trip of going to Kansas twice a year.

They were a whole 5 to 6 mph faster qualifying at Richmond those two years than last week. I guess that isn't even close. Frankly I don't think I can tell the difference.

yep I don't quake at the deathbedders fear mongering..Hope they wouldn't come over to that forum though. :D:p

I’m not really fear mongering I just really hate pack racing. I’m curious though and this is a serious question; if you like sprint cars where a leader can regularly win by a half a lap, why do you hate a driver being able to drive away in a cup race?

I never thought you were fear mongering, you had a solution if Nascar quit racing tomorrow and so do I. I would suggest you watch the highlight on the other page, and the ending of the Xfinity at Indy both years. It is not so that a faster can't pull away utter made up B.S. Check them out seeing is believing at least for some anyway.. I have watched Sprint car racing for years, there is very little follow the leader, plenty of opportunities to pass if you can pull it off. And I would say Sprint car races have plenty of pack racing, some around here think three wide around the corner is pack racing I guess, but they have what I call passes and plenty of them.
