They probably could've sold out the 140,000 or whatever they're down to for capacity there now if they were allowed to

I thought they removed them to put in a bar like area.
 
Inb4 they use the condition of the track after the dirt races to justify tearing the progressive banking down and repaving with asphalt.

Bristol Motor Speedway will remove the SAFER Barrier for the dirt races, according to NASCAR. It has been approved by University of Nebraska. Issue is dirt piling up between the steel panels and concrete wall, making it difficult to move the wall on impact. #nascar

I wonder if the Smith's are jumping for joy about that announcement, or the people who have to remove and put back everything. Probably not.

What tire they running? How many sets will it take to run 500 miles? The smart teams will build low HP, high-RPM engines. Won't need much torque. Big torque will just blow off the skinny tires with truck arm suspension.

When was the last time he drove a 3,300 pound car on a high speed dirt track?

Fact is many of the drivers have their roots in dirt but none of them have driven a NASCAR stock car on dirt. The playing field is fairly even.

Personally, my money would be on drivers like Chase Briscoe or Ross Chastain. They have recently driven the trucks at Eldora and have stock car success.

well there ya go a couple of good picks. Larson this year had never driven a late model, entered in a fairly big race and finished 5th against the best in the late models and feature night won it. Led every lap.

His debut dirt late model race at Charlotte in the WoO?

Tim McCreadie won that race. Larson finished P8.

Larson won his second start at Port Royal, where he is already dominate in a sprint car.

Dirt late models weigh 2300 lbs. It's a little closer, but those cars have advanced five shock suspensions with extreme body roll that make them very unique. Larson's recent experience in a USAC Silver Crown car on a larger dirt track may actually be more helpful, as those cars handle very bulky compared to the sprints and midgets he excels in.

I've looked, and by no means am I a good sleuth, but I don't see anything on the cars that will be used? Are they going to be Cup cars with treaded tires, or have some suspension modifications, or a whole new car for this? I did see where the banking would be lessened to something like 18 degrees so the transitions to the straights wouldn't be so severe. That makes me feel better about it but I'm still concerned it's not going to be real exciting. Hope I'm wrong but I'd rather have the paved race and save the dirt for the trucks or just the Xfinity.

couple of good picks. Looking at the cast of characters driving the trucks at Eldora is pretty interesting. Friesen has a pretty good record also

I am going by the obvious. They aren't going to go with low clearance and aero. The tire whatever it is is going to be a soft one so there are either going to be a lot of pitting under green or a lot of breaks for tire changes. Who knows they might run heats and features the same as they did with the trucks at Eldora.

I'll give you both Briscoe and Chastain and I will take Larson. It would be a fun wager. Larson did a "bang up job" driving the truck at Eldora one year. One of the most incredible runs I have ever witnessed.
