Bristol on Dirt pre race thread

If you’re not here you’re missing a good show.
Practice today is literally better than the race last year.

Friesen hasn't won in the trucks on dirt before but he has been close. Austin has won a truck Eldora race

The problem I have with the Cup cars on dirt is they aren't being pitched sideways. Looks like they're going around Bristol like it was paved. There's a hint of sliding but not enough for me. The trucks are sliding much more.
Huh???
That’s not true at all.

If people expect to see these guys pitch a car in sideways like a Built Dirt Late Model then they will be disappointed. These cars and Trucks are still 100% asphalt
TV may not show the reality of it but the Next Gen cars are much more suited for dirt and yes some are VERY sideways and sliding through the turns.
The fast ones can run the turns straight or sideways.

Is Andrew Gordon in the #49 or #46? FS1 says 49, Nascar.com say 49 but the entry list shows 46. Really confused, did G2G not come to Bristol??

This is why I wonder about value of bringing in dirt ringers. Is their experience on the surface going to offset their unfamiliarity with a car that doesn't handle like what they're used to?

I understand what you are saying but they dont go on entry and totally pitch the car sideways looking in the infield style. This car wont do it

The advantage is the car control, the ringers are used to cars coming out from under them and working the throttle. Non dirt guys arent used to using that much wheel, but sometimes those "asphalt" guys get it and can make adjustments.

For those who are wondering what they mean when they say" lock to lock" thats when the car goes completely all wheel left and then all wheel right, both as far as they can go on the steering box. Lock to lock

FS1, for whatever reason, is currently showing the '07 Bristol spring race, which was the debut of the COT and the last race before they reconfigured the track. Apparently they took a poll....

I never really trust these polls because I don't think they accurately represent the general fanbase, and the cynical side of me feels like they are always manipulated by the folks who are running the poll. But I'm kind of surprised they even bothered to post the results, considering it was already a foregone conclusion.

Right on.
They actually are running like late models did back when they were cool.
The car sets itself on entry and the driver takes it where they think they are fastest.
Last year it was about the the spectacle and the racing was hohum. So far this year it’s been about the show. Watching the drivers push the cushion up and seeing the best of the best cross the line in practice was awesome!

Hendrick pulled a backup car out of the NAPA trailer yesterday.
I haven’t heard anything about anyone going to a back up. Possibly to get parts and pieces to fix Larson‘s car after he walled it??
Also, Gilliland looked VERY impressive in the 38.

Gilliand is quick over a long run, too. He legitimately has speed.

Larson is the fastest over a 20 and 25 lap run, Blaney was the fastest on a 30 lap run. The favorites should be the favorites, however I see Blaney, Bubba is fast on the long run, Haley, Almirola, and Gragson all have solid long run pace and were able to get their cars dialed in.

I think we have a new winner come Sunday.

Not sure what the speed charts showed but Reddick was the first to push the cushion to the wall to find more speed.

I see Reddick as a favorite because of that. Reddick, Larson, Bell, and Briscoe are my most likely to win this.

More practice for those mentioned before all had a lot of practice laps and showed up on the time sheets in a solid way.
