Bristol on Dirt pre race thread

We will have to see if this one will be better than last year. I have a feeling it will be but if not then they may need to rethink this whole endeavor and come up with a better plan or scrap it all together. Hopefully it is an awesome race.

Was just listening to a replay of the late shift and they had the Goodyear guy on. Didn't realize that they had developed a radial tire for this race, opposed to the bias ply tires that have always been run on dirt prior to this. Might add another layer of learning

Too bad they won't let them groove and sipe them like on a dirt late model.

Oh Kyle isn't a happy camper
I totallyy read that before lookin at tweet sand definitely thought of a different Kyle when you said "not a happy camper". :XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL::XXROFL:

On another unrelated not but relevant to the thread, I can understand not running Xfinity this weekend since it's dirt.

On the other hand, I just checked out the weekend schedule, and tbh it feels weird for a weekend with multiple night races to not have any activity on track at all until Saturday afternoon. Why not run Arca on Thursday and/or Friday as a support series since they are now Nascar-owned and have dirt experience?
They run them as an opener to the season at Daytona so why not here? Open to discussion/debate etc on why or why not this could be a good idea.

NASCAR has had a year at looking into something to use instead of windshields. Mud flaps are not a good solution.
I am thinking a 5 gallon windshield washer reservoir with one of those big a$$ wipers they use on the road course should work just fine. They could even allow an extra man over the wall during pit stops to periodically top off the reservoir and if needed change the wiper blade.

yeah, a combo water bucket windshield splasher/reservoir filler guy in the pits.

I think windshields are just one of the problems they will have myself. They can drive with a dirty one, but overheating will put them laps down or out of the race. Ain't no mud flap going to fix that. Eh, it's going to be interesting to see how it all goes. They had a year to solve not having any windshields, and if that is the judge, I'm not feeling it about their solution to the overheating problems they had.

Mount the washer sprayer at the top of the windshield, pointing down. Gravity will do the rest, and you gain a competitive advantage by avoiding the weight of the wiper and motor.

I don't think they put much effort into solving any dirt track issues until lately and then it seems like too little too late. I mean there was some pretty serious rumors of still running the old car for this race until almost the start of this season

Remind me, do they have windshields in the Trucks for dirt events? How about ARCA?

Geez, plenty of other sedan-bodied series have solved this problem. Why beat heads on this without first trying the existing solutions?

The issue with Bristol is and always will be SMI selling tickets at prices like it's a sell-out crowd still.

The Food City ticket deal for the dirt race is $60 a pop... that's in-store purchase only. I checked and the cheapest ticket prices online for the night race are $75.

You can get on the spectator mounds at this year's Indy 500 for $40. You can get seats for $55. This isn't the super-advance price either... this is what it'd cost you today, 5 weeks from the race.
