Cable cutters, rejoice

I still have it made. I always planned to watch on a Fox network via the 'cable-like' streaming service from my broadband co-op.

There's time for Fox to find an alternative before the Indy season starts.
Eh, It's a long time til the season, the TV weasels are working feverishly to squeeze every last penny out of us poor peasants.

We have our first sports-only cable package and it's ... still expensive.

Also only available in big cities.
Outside of the NHL Network and the MLB Network, I already get those channels and many more through YouTube TV. I think I'm now paying about $84/month. That charge is still far less than cable tv in my area.

IPTV's are an option for those of you that would like to circumnavigate the system at a greatly reduced price. I did that for years without many issues.

A decent UHF multidirectional antenna on your roof is another option. I often use the television in my truck via an OTA signal. We also use one in our motorhome. Won't work for some of you in fringe areas but does work most everywhere.

For me and my family, streaming is the only source of television that makes sense. That along with my Starlink Satellite System gets me everything I want to watch anywhere in North America.

I am thinking about dropping DirectTv today and signing up with YouTube, Today

I have a smart TV, and that shouldn't be a problem. But the older 46 flat screen in the bedroom isn't a smart TV. I am pretty sure i could do the chrome cast device thing. But I do not want to be locked into have to use my phone or hers to watch the thing
Is there anyway to get a casting device that has its own remote independently of using someone's phone, pc to cast.

Obviously I am not experienced with this stuff, hopefully my question makes sense.

I use and have used for years Fire sticks from Amazon. Their newest model allows for casting. Roku is also an option. Personally, my suggestion is the Fire Stick. I have both.

They each have a complete library of any app you need for streaming.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I wrote that above assuming you meant YouTube TV. Just wanted to make sure you knew that DirecTV also had a streaming only service. I think it's simply called DirecTV Stream. Last I looked it was higher priced than YouTube TV.

Fire TV Stick is $34.99 at Amazon.....

Check with your Internet provider. Some offer specials on streaming devices (FireStick, Roku, etc.). Mine also offers its own streaming app.

Another week, another price increase. Or in this week's case, a two for one special:

It's follow the leader really. One company raises their price, so the others think that makes it acceptable for them to do the same thing.

To be honest I am still with DirecTv. I really don't care who the provider is as long it works. Amy is a little more indecisive.

Netflix's feed was all bugging out during WWE Raw tonight. I didn't watch the Tyson vs Paul fight, so I'm glad I too got to experience what everyone was so pissed about. Maybe these services should work on fixing their issues before asking the consumers to fork over more money. I don't know, just a thought.

I really hate how there are original movies specific to certain streaming services with no option to buy them physically, or even digitally for that matter. I understand it’s part of the strategy to get you to subscribe, but I still hate it. There are multiple movies on Netflix and Amazon that I’d gladly buy a physical copy of if it was available.

"You'll own nothing and you'll be happy."

It's also that it costs money to create physical copies. There has to be enough demand to pay back the production costs.

Common misconception. Everyone was hemorrhaging money on streaming until they created ad-supported plans. These "FAST" channels (like what NASCAR recently launched on Tubi) are surging in popularity.

As far as releasing "physical copies," what you think that consists of is largely outdated. Yeah, they still release DVD/Blu-Ray/4K Ultra HD, but this is largely for people like me who still have Blu Ray players, or for collectors. Plus, for movie buffs who have home theaters and take it seriously, a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray is an infinitely superior viewing experience than streaming.

However, nowadays, people purchase "digital copies" of movies where they can watch without a subscription. WB Discovery has fully embraced this. They release everything on DVD/Blu-Ray and digital. In fact, they recently reversed course with content purging and, when they removed content from Max, they actually released content they own on DVD/BRD/Digital.

More from the streaming cluster pucks.

On February 13, 2025, all Paramount channels will likely become unavailable on YouTube TV. If this happens, this will impact previous Library recordings from these channels, Paramount content in the Entertainment Plus package, and add-on services like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+. Should Paramount content become unavailable, we will continue to update our Help Center with the latest.

In all fairness, carriage disputes have been going on for decades in cable.

In the past, you didn't have options if your favorite channel was dropped.

My gritch with articles like this is they assume you're in range of broadcast stations, and that the individual sport discussed is all you're interested in watching.

My take is 180 from yours. I get all the OTA I want AND am only interested in one spurt. So Sling Blue & Prime (which I always have) are no problem. Probably can add Max to Sling for less than the usual cost. Likely will dump Sling for few months but not gonna do too much thinking/swapping. Pavement racing doesn't have the thrill it used to have.
