Change Coming to Bristol Again?

Top groove will come back once they lay down some rubber on it. All this has done is make the top groove slower. The way it was you couldn't pass for several laps anyway.

It sounds like the upper groove is gone and there won't be any rubber laid down.

That would work except I had left my phone on the work bench in the trailer. I was going to call Nick who was still down at the truck and have him get one of the scooters out and come up and get me but when I reached into my pocket I realized "OOOPS". I had to walk halfway around the complex before I could find away out. I guess I'm lucky it wasn't Lowes Motor Speedway because I would have had to flag a cab down and get a ride back to the other side of the complex.:)

Make us realize how much we've come to depend on our phones.

I know someone that works for Penske and I was told all he was doing is lowering the progressive banking and it wouldn't change much. But time will tell. No one would be happier then me to see my favorite track back.

It sure sounds like they are turning a lot of rpm in their motors when they run around that track.

They didn't say anything about Danica, and I didn't actually see her car on the track, it was sitting on jack stands behind her hauler getting worked on while I was there.

She probably wasn't even there yet. Maybe tomorrow?

I doubt Danica would be used for a tire test, probably just the only blank SHR car that was sitting around. I mean she has never even run a cup car at Bristol.

Here are some of the quotes from the drivers participating in the test. It reads like they stuck to the script and got in all of the key phrases. :D They seemed to say everything right except that they left out the number for the ticket office. 423-BRISTOL or 866-415-4158

#14-Tony Stewart (who is the only driver to try to run the high groove): "Well, you've definitely lost the top groove. Guys who run up there aren't going to be able to do that because it's pretty slick up there. There's going to be less room to race, that's for sure. We've gone from a three-groove track to two grooves and any time you've got less room to get around it can get pretty interesting. I'm one of the guys who likes that high groove so it's really going to change things up for me. It'll change things for everybody though because when you take away room to race on a track this small with 43 cars& yeah, it's going to tighten things up."
#15-Clint Bowyer: "That outside line the upper groove is out of play now. There's going to be a lot closer racing then we've had here in the past. I don't typically run up there but a lot of guys do and I can't see them going up there now. If they do& it's pretty slippery and they'll figure that out in a hurry. The closer we have to race just means something's going to happen. Is it going to make fans happy? Well, narrowing up the track means less room to get around so there's no question there's going to be closer action."
#31-Jeff Burton: "Goodyear is looking to bring a tire with more grip. I really think they have found some stuff that is really promising. As for the track itself, I really can't imagine running up there in that top groove. I think it is going to force everyone more to the middle and bottom of the track. The drivers aren't going to be happy, but the spectators probably will be because it is going to put more cars in a closer space. By taking away that groove, it is going to change your mind about going up there. I think it is going to be two grooves, unless Goodyear brings a tire with a lot of grip. If that is the case, you'll want to run around the bottom. Making the groove smaller is a good thing, it is going to put the action back to the bottom and middle of the track. What has changed is up near the wall, the bottom is the same. Tony experimented and tried out that top groove, and I know he won't be trying that again. If people liked the older track more than the new, they are going to like this. This takes the top groove out and brings it back toward the old track. Taking the groove out moves the track closer to what it used to be."(see more quotes at bristolmotorspeedway.com)(6-13-2012)

I had thought about that also. But then I thought maybe they figured that it would be a good way to get some laps under her belt. It rained pretty hard yesterday evening and it is pretty foggy here this morning.

She wasn't there. Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton are the only drivers participating.

Had she been there Bruton would have been selling tickets to the test. The media would have been camped out the for a week ahead of time. Tweets of her lap times would have been the trend on Twitter.

My bad, I guess I just got a little over excited when I saw her picture on the side of her hauler yesterday. The fog has burned off now and I heard the first car go on the track at about 9:25 this morning.

I went back up to the nascar track in the afternoon and Jeff Burtons hauler was gone and the only car on the track at that time was Clint Bowyers. It looked like they were getting ready to send Tony back out though. I think you guys were correct, it looked like they were using Danicas hauler to haul Tonys car. It looked like Clint was running the same line as the previous day.

A long but little personal Bristol related ticket news/outlook. So..... I've had season tickets to this place for years. Originally I had four seats for the Nationwide/Cup races. About five years ago I dropped that to two seats for the Nationwide/Cup races because of the cost and general lack of interest by my daughter at attending the actual race. We camp at all of the races that we attend and normally make a week out of it. She loves the camping and all of the things that surround the camping and the event, but not the race itself. For the past five years the four of us would attend only the Truck/Nationwide races and only myself or my wife would attend the Cup race along with my son. Last year we decided to sit @ the start/finish line for the truck race @ whatever row is about as high as the flag stand. Not my favorite vantage point but my son loved it being that close to the action. My wife and I decided this morning that we'd try to get a couple tickets low at the start/finish line so I called and had absolutely no problem securing two isle seats directly behind the flag stand, row 15.

Here's the main point of my rambling..... When I called the ticket office I told them that I'd like to get two more seats for this upcoming race, they asked me where I'd like to sit. They told me that I could have the two seats directly beside, in front or behind my season tickets. I told them that I wanted to sit at the start/finish line and they said no problem. What I am getting at is that if I had that much leeway in seat selection, what does that say for ticket sales? Bruton's now changed the track to appease the apparent or transparent disgruntled masses and people still aren't buying tickets, (Big mistake IMO). Yeah, it's only the end of June but this isn't looking good for the race turnout come fall.

A long, long time ago I remember calling just to get placed on the waiting list for my seats @ Bristol. It took about three years and I was finally able to get my season tickets on the then cement steps on the backstretch. It took years to work my way up to the top of the stands that continued to grow year after year. That now seems like a lifetime ago.

99.% of people who commented and complained about Bristol (or complain about various drivers and tracks on sites like this) don't even attend races so I'm not surprised that changing the track hasn't been the magic bullet that some thought it would be.

3 peas in a pod you are. LOL

Do your parents know you are using their internet to obsess over my posts?

And out of curiosity do any of you actually attend any races or do you just watch on mom's TV?

I get it. You pick on us because you think we're little kids. That's real mature. :p

What you attend 2 races this year and we supposed to bow down to you as the KING attendee of everything NASCAR?????

Good bait Honcho, caught one.

Hey look! The 4th layer of your manwich!

We've been unfair to Matt. Matt, you're incredibly humble for someone who knows so much about everything. I find it amazing how you humbly phrase your wisdom as opinion, when everyone with the slightest intelligence knows they are facts. It must be incredibly difficult for you to resist the urge to disrespect the opinions of us lesser folk, but you somehow manage.

There. I hope this leg humping moment helps you feel like one of us regular guys. :D

How many races have you attended other than the 2 this year?????

My mother knows - dad's no longer with us.

I've never attended a Nascar race as I'm not exactly welcome in your country due to some indescretions from my younger days.

Interesting tactic that I've not seen attempted before. Bristol Motor Speedway sent out a tweet this morning touting the low gas prices in their area. It won't help me get there but I guess I can fill up that first tank of diesel and get out of there cheaper.....

Gasoline prices trending in the right direction for Bristol race fans

Heading to Bristol for the IRWIN Tools Night Race this August? Thinking about visiting Thunder Valley and marking this legendary event off your "Bucket List?" Recent trends in gasoline prices indicate your trip will be a little easier on the wallet.

Mid-week here in the Bristol region shows gas prices among the lowest in the country, dipping below $3.00. Across Tennessee some prices are as low as $2.85 per gallon.

With oil costs expected to drop even more over the coming weeks, it certainly bodes well for race fans driving to Bristol Motor Speedway for August Race Week and its events.

From here.

From here.

Why don't you drive over the week before and fill your tank with cheap gas to save money when you return on race weekend?

Thanks, I just knew that there had to be some way to capitalize on this.

No problem. Anything for my buddy. In fact, I'll even extend myself further and make this weeks Yahoo picks for you. It takes a real Yahoo to make good picks, so you're in good hands.
