Chicagoland Pre Race Thread

Lazyking, I'm hoping that the restart box is eliminated and the cars go when the green waves. No waiting for the leader to cross first.

Green = GO !

I'd like to see the restart zone eliminated too. But the final lap before the restart is under caution. You can not pass the leader under caution, so the leader must be leading when they cross the S/F line on restarts.

A restart under caution? lol

I think people are making more of this than what it really is. nascar isn't going to start making calls over every little thing. The new "100%" policy is more for when teams are obviously sandbagging for some kind of an advantage, be it for them or a teammate.
If it's not something completely obvious or blatant you won't hear a word from nascar control.

I think that people are having some fun with the 100% rule.:)

lol That must be it.

I always felt that blocking pit box entry or exit are the cheapest moves in racing.

It's certainly up there. Too bad they don't keep stats on who does and does not practice that tactic.

Brian will stand at the start/finish line, Helton is the 100 percent judge, and Pemberton is the hall monitor.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS NO AIR TITAN. I think the air titan is so huge they can only move it twice a year.

What a joke. Nascan't is what they shoud call it.
What, no air titan at Chicago??

So much for the 100% rule.

I can't get over how inept they look to me.

The air titan was there on Thursday to "condition" the track. But they sent it home. Chicagoland didn't include the titan in its budget this year.

And being that the chase starts there, Brian should just pull out a gun, and shoot himself in the foot. And then in the face, it might be an improvement.

Yep. I said that would be the problem the first time I saw it.

They are having sponsorship issues. the Sullair people refuse to pay unless they get to ride in the front.

Track did not pay for it and NASCAR won’t foot the bill. RT @Pro_NASCAR_Fan: @jeff_gluck Why would they take away the Air Titan?

Wow! It was there, but nascar paid to ship it out because the track wouldn't pay the bill for Sunday? What a joke.

Those numbers are deceiving to say the least. Some of them come out of a full run on tires and fuel and others just go out and run a much smaller segment. In that final practice only 19 drivers of the 41 that practiced ran 10 or more consecutive laps. Using your Gordon example, he ran at least those 29 laps on one set of tires on the same setup. It doesn't tell you how many laps he continued after his 29th lap although he did run 34 total laps in that final practice. Without all of the drivers making full runs though it's really hard to get any good info out of it IMO.

Obviously drivers and teams are skewing or scrambling their practice performance to help their favorite fantasy league players.

Especially with the 2013 chase championship contest we have here. I have never been a Hendricks fan, Ford or Toyota fan. With the exception of RCR and FRR their altering their times to keep me from repeating Dominanting and Annihilating like I did last year as the 2012 RACING FORUMS DEFENDING CHASE CHAMPIONS. They have their orders they dont want me to win again.

I have my people talking to Brian France and Helton. Next week hopefully they will have everybody practicing at 100 percent taking full fuel loads everytime and collating there tire use so that they can be tracked to the exact number of laps used:).

Looking at the radar it looks bad today. I got a feeling this will be a monday race.

UPDATE: Changes were announced Sunday morning. The restart zone remains in place as always and the leader will still control the start within the zone. HOWEVER, once leader goes, he can be passed before the stripe. Drivers are still not allowed to change lanes before the start. If the second place driver jumps the restart they will be black flagged

As we headed out door on our way to Joliet, my son:

"I don't think I've ever been to this place when is isn't raining."

We have heard that before

I am reading this as the stripe is the start/finish line, and the leader goes and for instance spins his tires the second place driver can beat him to the stripe.
Makes sense since this been happening all year with some getting called on it and others not. As was the case last week.

Just a brief personal story re: the Air Titan.

About 10 years ago, my old man worked for a company called Vac/All that made big industrial street sweepers/vacuum truck type deals. We were watching some Cup race where the safety crews spent (what seemed like) 20 minutes trying to sweep up the kitty litter after an oil spill and my dad said his trucks could do that in 30 seconds. He got a meeting with NASCAR in Daytona Beach and flew down there to try to sell them one. They really liked it but told him they wanted Vac/All to flip the bill buy having a truck and a guy to work it at every race. Obviously, that's a huge investment, not only to kind of donate a truck for the cause, but also the salary and benefits of the guy to ride around to every NASCAR track (which would be a cool job, granted). The NASCAR VP my pop talked to said "Think of the advertising exposure!", but Vac/All wasn't interested. And, as far as I know, NASCAR still tries to sweep up the kitty litter with hand brooms.

So, I can see NASCAR and Brian France trying to get out for paying of everything they can. They don't want to pay for the Air Titan and probably asked Sullair to provide it at their expense.
