Cup RACE thread --- Charlotte

I just got back from the race and honestly I hate that my guy didn't win and I really thought he had Truex in the last Chicane, but he didn't. However, I am very happy to see that Jimmie was hungry for that win, loved seeing that.

Oh well, onto Season 2019 for the 8th Championship.

There may be hurt feelings and heartbreak, but that was an excellent battle.

Anyone know where I can find post race presses? Only found Clint Bowyer's

I have always respected Jimmie Johnson. Have not always exactly liked him, and wasn't often rooting for him. I did find myself rooting for him on the final lap today, and I've never *liked* him more than I did after seeing how badly he wanted to win even though he didn't need to. I don't like seeing anyone make a clear driving error and take someone else out. But the pure desire to just win the race, playoffs BS be damned, was very compelling.

Wtaching the race was a hoot, and reading through these comments since page 5 has me laughing with tears. NASCAR needs to get some real race fans in the announcing booth.

Won’t see any “Does Jimmie Johnson even care anymore” threads for the foreseeable future.

On to Dover.

"Does Jimmie Johnson even care anymore?"

He's clearly had a dog of a car combined with a little more than his share of misfortune this year, but none of that means that he doesn't still have it in him.

In other words, agreed, DSquad.

But Jeffrey just stopped. It makes no sense.

Also, curious as to what minimum speed is and how many laps you have to meet that minimum speed.
The explanation on the post race show was that NASCAR allows 3 laps to obtain minimum speed and the race restarted with 3 laps to go. That didn't make any sense at first but after I thought about how NASCAR handles penalty situations it seemed to make more sense.

Normally they display the black flag indicating the driver needs to come to the pits, if the car doesn't pit then they display the black flag with white cross and they stop scoring the car.

So in this situation I think they would check for minimum speed at the end of first lap, then they would display black flag at end of the 2nd lap, then the black flag with white cross flag at the end of the third lap which indicates they will stop scoring the car, but in this situation the race is over at that point so it doesn't matter.

Still fustrated for JJ. Had a top 3 car today, and had Truex if there were another few laps left.

Had top 5 speed all chase so far. He deserves to be in on performance alone.

As mentioned, he "probably" didnt have the speed to win Homestead. But if 7 titles and 83 wins give you the luxury of "stupidly" risking a playoff spot to win a race, I'd take it.

Jimmie was fighting back tears there.

Dont be suprised if he wins Dover. And of hes a contender next year. If he doesnt announce retirement. The look of dejection was quite interesting, as if it was his last shot?

We've never seen him look like that. Then again, we haven't seen that kind of crazy mistake out of him either. Interestingly, I've never rooted for him more during or after a race more than today.

Here folks, lets learn something and put the tin foil hats away for another day.

That thing may as well have been posted in all caps. Lmao

Where I sat it was packed tight.
Well, the farther you got away from the S/F line back toward oval 4, the fewer people there were. That first grandstand coming into 4 was pretty well deserted.

I'll bet the track wishes it still had those stands between oval 1 and 2, and the tower in 2.

Yep, I saw that as well. I knew going in the seatrs where I was and into (old) turn 2, would sell out more than likely. I figured (old) turn 4 would be pretty much empty.
But, my seats were great! :D

Saturday night Roval elimination race? Sign me up!

Sorry @Charlie Spencer ;)

I usually sat in New Veranda sections in past, but waited too late and they were sold out. We had Row 33 in Veranda A, which would have been prime for the All Star or 600. For Roval, I couldn’t see turns 3-6, but did pick them up on straight between 5-6. Also couldn’t see backstretch chicane. Best seats would be Ford tower, but those are too high/steep with my fear of heights. Yeah, I’m a candyarse. I may try for Club Deck next year which is above Nee Veranda.

Gators won, Saints won and kybu crashed out. Life is good :D

I agree with this. I can't believe how many people are mad at what he did. Seemed like he valued not having a winless season over a championship that is pretty unlikely to begin with IMO. I think there's a lot more momentum to be built off a win like that than just coming home 2nd and riding the wave of consistency.

Roval Night race actually sounds like a great idea (compared to ovals, it sounds like a good idea), never have we seen any road course racing at night, so I'd love to see it.

> Thrilled at possibility to win race and snap career-long losing streak, only to mess up the final corner and wreck not only yourself but the leader
>> Get crashed post-race for first time in career
>>> Find out that you didn't advance during live post-race interview

All in about 5 minute time frame.

He knows he f'd up, and that's the worst feeling -- when there's nobody to blame but yourself.

I'd love to see the rotors glowing red going into 1...
