Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

Not at this level. But the big one has basically been part of the deal since the start. 1990 had a HUGE crash when Petty, Sacks and Cope wrecked in front of the entire field on lap 2. 1989 had a pretty big wreck too towards the end of the race.
Guess you forgot about the big wreck Bobby Allison had in the 87 Daytona Winston 500;)

He didn’t go below yellow line, so he’s good.

The real question is will he send Stenhouse a bottle of champagne as a thank you gift?
Don't you think a win is worth just a tad bit more than a bottle of champagne ?

Uh its been going on since 1988.
Doesn't mean it has to continue. The old points system was in place just as long until it was scrapped. Stage racing was introduced. I'm not saying those are necessarily good changes, only that things CAN be changed.

Just got back to hotel from track. I hate to say it...but I was bored. This type of racing live, I dunno wasn’t for me, but maybe it’s because I was a bit under the weather. A couple of things: 1.) from where I was sitting looks like the 17 caused both big ones, he was taking no prisoners tonight. 2.) More boos than cheers for KDB in pre race intro, it cracked me up when he got wrecked as he got a lot of cheers then. I hope had a salty interview on TV, it sounded like he was salty on the track interview/MRN. 3.) it was absolute thunderous when JJ took the lead, I was pretty shocked. I think everyone likes him due to the fact he’s one of the last old guard left. Pretty cool in fact I myself was cheering for him after Chase wrecked out. 4.) Daytona is an amazing place, If you’re a fan of the sport you really need to make it out there. A truly top notch facility, they knocked it out of the park

My how things have changed! I went to the Pepsi 400 in 2002 and it took us until the wee hours of the morning to get out of our parking lot. By the time we hit up a gas station no more than 3 miles from the parking lot the Sunday morning paper was printed and Michael Waltrip's pic on the front page. That was pretty surreal...lol

If nothing else, just being at Daytona is an experience that makes the trek worthwhile.

He was not very salty, he did throw the blame down, but for KB, he was tame.

Kyle and DJ pointed out Stenhouse had two pedals and should have lifted. Kez lifted; did they not see what happened to him? How can a driver be expected to lift when he knows everyone behind him has it on the floor?

He blew a rear tire iirc then the debris field caused the "big one". There were big wrecks at 'Dega and Daytona long before the plates. There was one in the 70's on the back stretch at Daytona when Friday Hassler died.

Irvan was the first driver I ever cheered for. His apology was very admirable. One of the most underrated drivers of all time IMO
He stood up and owned his mistakes. He earned a lot of respect that day, and I admire him for that. I made my comment with admiration for Irvan, but I just don’t think Stenhouse has it in him to humble himself and admit he effed up numerous times. I hope that he proves me wrong.

We left with 20 to go and parked across the street at Dillard’s. The walk out/in from Dillard’s kind of sucked but it’s not too bad once you get to the Car, pretty easy after that.

So from reading your guys posts, seems like the 17 had a bad night. From the stands you could smell the desperation, felt he drove like a desperate man trying to make the playoffs with a win and realized this was his last best chance of the year.

Just started watching and just watched the first big one.. I hate plate racing again lol. All this talk about the race being blown wide open... the 4, 18, and 78 are still in contention as of twenty to go in stage two...

Also, ******* Brad!

Jesus the 17 again. Side drafting in the middle of two while in 3rd place with 2/3rds left in the race is quite typical for the dude.

Thank god for FF
