Wonder if the 5 was taken to the R&D Center?

Or was it boxed up in the 5's hauler and went on about its way? That was a very odd accident, I hope its investigated into.

The rule is that Hamlin should stop-and-go at the specified area at turn 12. How do you know he didn't do that? You can't tell from the NBC broadcast.

What earlier infraction are you talking about? Serious question. I have the recording, and am interested to review what happened.

My Bottom Line Conclusion: I've always eagerly anticipated the Brickyard 400, always regarded it as one of the most intriguing races of the year. I hope the race returns to the oval ASAP. I also love roadracing... including rovals... but the funnel effect of turn 1 needs a solution. The problem is not the officiating, it's the driving. Just my opinion.

He said he was standing on the brakes. Sounds like the beginning of brake failure. We saw the end.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but......
 
Some people live for conspiracy theories. Anything involving the brake system could be the problem. After hitting Ty, Larson said he had pedal. Sounded like he was surprised he did.
 
ive been to the indy 500 and the 2nd brickyard 500, its a over whelming feeling to walk in to that place, something that you would never get watching it on tv. before you say to get rid of these races ,go there one time, you will change you mind.if not just stay on the internet and talk sh..... about everything ,for me nascar should the oval and rc both each year,

Everyone loves a good conspiracy, and it certainly odd how HMS is responding and putting it all on Kyle.

But the explanation doesn't seem congruent with what happened.


Cliff asked Kyle to switch off his brake fans a few laps before the wreck. Kyle said "I have pedal again" right after.

And apparently, a fan who was at the race mentioned in a reddit comment that he came to almost a complete stop in turn 12 the lap prior to the wreck which is something I had not seen anyone talk about.

People can go on about conspiracies, people can naively believe that a world class driver made such a mistake...

But I think what's most likely the case is one of two scenarios.

1. The heat got to Kyle's head and he had a brief lapse in consciousness, or spaced out. Ty's reaction to Kyle was odd.

2. Something was up with the brakes and then he boiled them and the pedal went to the floor.

I think option number two is the most likely scenario. The whole thing is just weird

Dunno about Option 2 being the most likely. Do you remember when he passed out at the merch hauler a few years ago when he was with Ganassi, and missed a race? I am thinking #1. Wouldn't Hendrick put #2 out there if it was possible....in fact, I am not sure why they didn't. Way to have your driver's back.

I don't recall that, no. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like this, Kyle is a little guy and some people just handle heat and dehydration differently.

However, considering how much radio discussion occured about the brakes, the 5 car apparently coming to a hault in turn 12, there's too much chatter make me think it wasn't something with the brakes.

Why HMS is putting it on Kyle, however, is weird.
