Cup RACE thread --- Richmond

i think its amazing that Nascar has managed to even screw up the winner interviews so that we bitch about them now....maybe they should hire a third party firm to run the sport...
 
Woulda been a lot better if anyone had a legit chance to pass the leader, no matter who it was. The race for 2nd was fun as Clint burned his tires off trying to break the laws of physics and the strength of clean air. Pretty ****** if you ask me.
 
If a "race fan" didn't enjoy that, they cannot be pleased. That was a whale of an effort to hold Bowyer off and back it up holding Logano off. MTJ earned that. Congrats to JGR and Truex. The crowd was a sellout in my den.
 
So now they don’t even show Victory Lane...really lame. When Jeff raced, it was damn cool watching your hero get out of the car, celebrate with the crew (90’s Jeff jumped on the roof) and then he got interview time, usually interviewed first( you also got the chance to see what hat he was wearing so you knew what to buy when the traveling circus came to your town.) Now it’s just another commercial break. The damn networks just don’t get it everything’s gotta have a storyline and comes off as too damn scripted.

This. My negative feelings on it are that I can’t stand the guys racing for win (ie it wasn’t my guy involved)

I'm not trying to be hard on Truex. Logano had the faster car at the end and Martin held him off long enough, and did a stellar job of holding off Bowyer. I'm glad to see them race clean.

Bowyer tracked him down from way back and couldnt do a damn thing with him as long as MTJ could dump dirty air onto Bowyer’s nose. It’s laughable and far too predictable. At one point Bowyer was moving to the inside and outside of MTJ on the straights desperately trying to find clean air.

It was fun to watch but in the back of my head
I knew no matter who caught him, they’d never pass him unless they wrecked him. Even with a faster car, they cant pass by running the same or similar lines. Only way is to go through ‘em and that’s sad.

Im gonna disagree. Everyone was running on used rubber and like at Homestead Truex drove his ass off.
 
Hey Clint, if you don’t like the aero package and can’t pass, these things have a mechanism called a bumper..feel free to use it

Why lol that’s how stock car racing has been for years on short tracks?

Bowyer got passed by the 22 so "dumping air" what ever that crap means is an excuse for getting outrun.
 
I’m so jacked from that race I’m going right to the DVR to watch last week’s Indy Car race from Barber. Racing is such a damn awesome sport, even with various warts.

That he did. Logano has gotten himself into a lot of beefs driving without any regard for the consequences. That was a calculated move to not drive like a bull in a china shop on the last lap, and Martin looked like he was trying to block high then low to hold him off. He did exactly what he needed to do, and my comment was more about Logano racing more like a veteran there than he has in the past.

Also incorrect. Chrome horn is fine and all but getting that better run off the corner and out breaking the other guy into the next is epitome of short track racing. Hold the throttle until you see Jesus and turn left. Short tracks arent just demolition derbies.

Bowyer got passed after he got mired behind the #19 and burned his tires up. It’s a sad state of affairs when a driver can track a guy down from half a straightaway back using a line but can’t pass using that same line which was faster until he was in the leader’s wake. You can act holier than thou all you want but even Dale Jr. talked on his podcast about how stupid hard it is to pass now compared to previous aero packages. He describes it as hitting a wall - curiously enough exactly what Clint said over the radio.

I watched 2 great finishes today, the Masters and the 400 at Richmond! They both had me on the edge of my seat! Lets go Tiger tomorrow!
