Daytona RACE thread

When Larson isn't dominating by lap 50, you moan about how bad they are. It's like clockwork

And? Why does that matter? I moan when the pace is off. And I have a blast doing it. I don't mean any of it. It's fun being emotional. It's part of sports

But I have to say, you don't have to agree with me. So ould you do me a solid and give me a quality reason as to why you need to invalidate my opinion on Byron by making it personal and attacking how I enjoy my fandom? Care to justify that?

I'm not making anything personal. But saying that half, or more, of his wins are pure luck? That's just silly

I did with my HS girlfriend...

You sorta did though dude. We weren't talking about me, we were talking about Byron and you made it about me. It's cool

Half of Byrons wins aren't luck. I know that. He's gotten more lucky wins than anyone else though, so I'm leaning into it. I'm talking my **** and having fun. Byron is good.

I forgot that we almost had a similar incident to Preece’s with chastain a few years back at Texas I believe.

Well it comes off you’re attacking other fandoms of those who like Byron, when you attribute luck every time he scores a checkers. Comeon you honestly believe he hasn’t been lucky for each of his 14 wins. Willy B reminds me of Scott Dixon….you never know he’s there until He wins. I believe there’s great skill to putting yourself into position over the course of 500 miles to win a race.

I'm not attacking fandoms at all. My comments are tongue in cheek and are about Byron. My comments aren't directed at anyone in particular, or a particular fan base and theres no indication that my attitude is towards the fans. That's entirely different than posters taking offense and making intentional comments about me. I'm cool with people being annoyed with me, but don't make it personal. We're all adults here.

I think he's lucky. I think he's great. It annoys me when he wins lucky, so i lean into that because its fun.

I shat on Harvick in a similar light in 2014-2016, Brad from 2011-2014, Logano in 2015, Truex from 2017-2019, KB throughout his career, Elliott from 2020-2023, now Byron. It's how I chose to engage with sports. It's just part of the fun.

AKA "The Kenseth"

A guy with zero relevant racing experience showed that he could stick with a draft this weekend (and I don't mean Helio) and somehow people still talk about Daytona like it's a battle of driving talent. Wild. Nothing about the 6 plate races is applicable anywhere else someone lifts and or brakes to make a turn.

This is actually a great comparison. He is a bit like a young Scott Dixon, the dude is great at being fast and keeping it clean.

OK. This race was a really new experience for me because I purchased the Max package and was able to have Chase (and everyone's) in car camera and radio for the whole race on the computer while I had the broadcast on and it gave me a whole new respect for what these guys go through in these races. If I was the best and most capable driver on planet earth I am not sure mentally I could do what they do. Chase had a GREAT car and drove a GREAT race outside of one mistake in the final stage with about 40 to go that cost him a shot at the win. Now all the drivers make one or 2 in 500 miles I am sure but once Chase got back to 25th to 30th the lines just were not moving and he really had no options. He was even apologizing on the radio during the red flag saying one bad decision cost them.

As for the result of the race, congrats to Byron but man I am tired of seeing guys win this race by sheer luck. And for those that want to talk about skill and this and that just watch his in-car and listen to the radio. He barley if at all moves and the Red Sea just parts and he even says "How the F--- did that happen?" I love the comparisons right away between Chase and Byron because apparently people just need to justify that Chase is not as good a driver as others. Yes Byron has won a lot more races than Chase since the start of 2023 but 2023 was an off season for Chase due to the injury and suspension and I'd take Chase's 2024 over Byron's. Just like the Larson/Chase debate they are both really good drivers (which is why they are at HMS) so just move on.

The Stenhouse/Logano drama - I'd say 60% Stenhouse/40%Logano. They were both being pretty stupid and impatient there. On the note of Logano though, team Penske had them covered so I'd expect it to be the same going into Atlanta. I think Chase had the best non-Penske car but really did not have much for them.

Anyone interested in the Max package - it's great and what I like most is that you can watch the feed AFTER the race so as the season goes on and the weather here in New England gets better and I am not watching live during the race I can still use it at night when I pull the race up on the DVR.

I agree and take nothing from Byron other than wins like THIS one are luck. He has plenty of other really good wins and is a very capable driver who could win a title one day. I think the one knock on him is that he needs to put an entire season together. Once he does that the sky is the limit.

Who are you referring to?

And when thousands of fans are missing the race because of him.

Gluck posted pictures of the lines from just a few minutes ago. And I’ve been reading stuff about people giving up and going home.
Maybe people attending the race should be more prepared and arrive early, ESPECIALLY when there are extenuating circumstances. My goal when I go to a NASCAR race, or other major sporting events, is to be inside the venue within a half hour of the gates opening. When the Brickyard used have the gates open at 6 AM, we were usually parked and walking around by the garage area by 6:45. I have little sympathy for people that think they can show up for the Daytona 500 a couple of hours before the race just waltz right in.
