Deegan update

The Danica Patrick/Hailie Deegan comparisons start and end with failure to live up to the corporate attention and fan expectations.

On the track, Hailee couldn’t hold Danica’s helmet. They aren’t the same.
If Danica had more of Deegans laid back attitude she might still be racing. Patrick was her own worse critic.

I'm not sure what your opinion is. Can't say what I dislike as will get deleted or moved to the basement.

My opinion is apparently irrelevant in every aspect according to self-appointed Forum President StandOnIt.

The reason Toni is more marketable is quite evident. She's literally a spokesperson for Victoria's Secret. And this thing where her performance is on par with Hailie Deegan was NOT supposed to happen - especially since Hailie Deegan was supposed to be a regular top-10 finisher at this point.

If Danica stayed in open wheel, she would've probably won an Indianapolis 500.

She should have at least stayed in Xfinity another full season before moving up to Cup.

Hailie's "laid back attitude" is probably the biggest problem at this point. Fans might love it, but she should NOT be happy with being 18th in points, with only a handful of full-time drivers behind her ... two of which are drivers she's wrecked.

The time she spends making videos for YouTok would be better spent in the simulator.

Andy - Your thoughts make my heart hurt. I was/am the biggest danica backer. I beleive that when Tony Eury Jr directed her in the xfiniyty start through the time where she went in the grass and still did well as a big sign for her.

Its burned into my mind they had a mike on tony and he said "Not bad for a girl, eh?"

wow....points to ponder.

Id like to see Patrick run a couple more 500s, tbh.

I think she's happy doing what she does now.

She seemed downright miserable in her final couple seasons in NASCAR.

Her final years in cup she was going thru breast implants sickness which was adding to her being miserable.
Meh...I'm skeptical about the BIS. But she did give them quite the workout with all the hard frontal impacts. The SuperSpeedways were brutal for her. IMO her time spent with Wrecky Spinhouse didn't do her any favors. Been ahead to have hooked up with her engineer. Maybe learned which end of the car was which. She knows NOTHING about how a car works.

Watched a YT video with couple ex-crewchiefs that said probably 50% of their drivers knew NOTHING about how/why a car worked. Didn't know and didn't want to know. Guess she was one of that type but without their talent to go fast.

didnt larson say he didnt know much on how a car works as well?

She poured it into turn 1 at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 220 + MPH with her foot flat on the floor.

I chopped the rest of your high quality post off. Gossip.
I have great respect for her ability to drive at Indy but that was only place she was anything more than average. Main reason she left Indycar was she wasn't great on road course and series was headed that way. Plus GoDaddy could better leverage the redneckism of Nascar at the time.

Appreciate you avoiding rest of my comment. But glad I could annoy you again. Makes my day.

The rest of your comment is National Inquirer-level garbage.

Avoiding it was the obvious choice.

Main reason she left Indycar is because being a NA$CAR driver paid exponentially better.

To speak to Danica’s star power and put it into perspective, that ARCA race she ran had more viewers than many of today’s Cup races. And her coming to NASCAR was so big that SPEED had live coverage of an ARCA test because she was in it.

Ironically, Danica was always good at Martinsville. And in the Xfinity Series, she was fine on road courses

INDYCAR not only was going the road course direction, they were losing exposure. That was also when they had the ABC/VERSUS TV deal, when VERSUS was an unknown channel, despite having the finest presentation of auto racing you’ll ever see.

they built him a camaro with i think a nascar stick shift for him to drive on the street.all he ever drove was truck towing his dirt car, and no he does not work on his dirt cars,or care how they work, but it sure works for him.

Being a championship level Cup driver doesn't necessarily mean you have to work on the cars nowadays. I know back in the 40s to 70s (maybe into the 80s) drivers worked on their own cars, but that hasn't been the case since NASCAR teams started hiring engineers and specialist to squeeze out as much as they can out of every aspect of the car. The role of the driver became more specialized as well as every other role in a NASCAR team garage.

Exactly. Not only do drivers not work on the cars (for decades now) but the teams don't want the drivers working on the cars. Like you said, there are specialists for these things now, and each person on the team has their role. The driver's role is to drive. Leave the wrenches in the toolbox for the mechanics.

NASCAR needs a stronger/faster feeder system that has stable supports for women drivers so there can be 3-4-5 full time drivers at a time rather than 1 with all the weight in her shoulders all the time. Hailee might just a lot better if we had 3+ other women driving full time. But since mainstream sponsors won’t come through I see Toni being setup to be more of the same in the long run. Until Walmart and Dewalt level sponsors come in the social media and attractiveness components will continue to be the driving force rather than the development and skill of female drivers.

I believe Hailer and Toni both have the potential to take home wins. But I think both deal with demands and distractions most of the male drivers don’t dream of. That’s not an excuse but we know that no matter the skill level and potential, a distracted driver suffers.

Didn’t Danica have solid sponsors?

Halle just does not have the talent and she seems to be content with where she is. Hopefully Toni has a higher ceiling. There will be a female getting wins in cup one day. Let's hope it happens sooner than later.

Huh?

Deegan was set up as "The One." She was sold as a racecar driver who will win races and not just a pretty face. She was pushed hard as some "anti-Danica" type figure. She's been set up for success, moreso than Natalie Decker, Toni Breidinger, and countless others. As others have stated, Deegan's even been set up for success moreso than Patrick was, since there was a rush to get Patrick in Cup while everyone's been more patient with Deegan than just about any driver.

As for more female competition, I want to see more, but I'd also argue that Toni Breidinger's presence is hurting Deegan even more. Breidinger isn't taken seriously, between the Victoria's Secret thing, the lifting at Talladega stuff, and so on. Yet she's showing Deegan up right now - which is part of why the Hailie Deegan hype train has derailed.

Halle just does not have the talent and she seems to be content with where she is.

Another problem with Deegan right here.

She seems content with running in 15th place. Third year in Trucks and she has not even adjusted her expectations - granted, she's also not even close to being a top-10 driver so far.

She hasn’t adjusted her expectations and neither have her supporters. They celebrate 12th place finishes like she won. Thorsport trucks are supposed to compete for wins and top 5s and a couple of them do. Rhodes and Majeski are threats. Crafton is Crafton. He’s aging out, but still running better than Deegan.

GoDaddy was based on her appearance. Which was his point.
You mean her appearance, that she herself promoted to the public through scantily-clad photoshoots with FHM and Sports Illustrated? Yeah, she really hated that GoDaddy money, I'm sure...

What else is NASCAR supposed to do, literally hand female drivers a paid ride for being female? They've already provided funding to teams and assistance to these drivers through the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program for 15+ years now.

The drivers either have it or they don't. When a female driver comes with the talent to win someday, they'll win.
