Fontana Pre-race Race Thread

They do have speed though. And at a track that usually has a couple of long green-flag runs they should be able to work their way up.

I am not so optimistic. The leaders are going to be running in clean air. Even if Biff and Kez have fast cars, they aren't going to keep up with the leader in clean air. I think they are going to gamble on pit stops with tires, and good luck with that on this slick bumpy track. If they can pull that off, may be so, going to be fun to watch though.

Pretty good turnout in the stands for qualifying yesterday. If you spent a few minutes with everyone you'd probably know them all on a first name basis.

Jeffy G is my pick for this week.

Picked Kasey in Vegas and Ky. Busch in Bristol, and we all know how that went ;)

That looks like a tour bus group..see Hollywood, MGM, and tour the Nascar track..bwaaaa

Take Biffle out of the mix and the Roush Fords are junk this week. They might need to use Biffle's setup, or better yet, ask the Penske boys what they are doing

Not even a Nascar hat in sight. The other track pic had a mooch with an old #20 Tony Stewart car he was trying to get Tony to sign. They might have to switch to hybrids for Cali.

Never in a million years would I have guessed the Fontana pre race thread would be longer than the Bristol pre race thread.

Maybe that means the race will be even more exciting than Bristol!o_O

takes them so long to make a lap is why the thread is longer...

Nelson Piquet up there with the big boys. X formula 1 driver. Gibbs cars have the handle on it. KB is way faster, this weekend might be the Kyle Bush show.

I like Harvick's paint job this week. Or maybe it was just the close up shot in the garage that made it look cool. They always look better up close and the gloss shining on them.

You never know, Boyer might jump up there and win one. He and Martin for MWR are fast in racing trim.

The top in that last practice looks like a who's who of drivers that have gotten a hard time on this forum. There's AJ ,Kyle , Kurt , Junior , Denny, , Truex ,and Logano.

Roush feels confident Ford engine woes over: To contend at Auto Club Speedway, #16-Greg Biffle will have to come from the rear of the field due to an engine failure in opening practice on the 2-mile track. And car owner Jack Roush believes his driver has enough under the hood to do it. Roush said Saturday the engine failures suffered by Biffle and Ford stable mate Brad Keselowski appeared to be due to lost bearings, and the No. 16 car's strength in practice Saturday gave him confidence the issue would not rear its head again in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. "Both of those problems are something we characterize as an infant mortality problem," Roush said after Biffle topped the first of Saturday's two practice sessions. "The fact that we've gotten the rest of the practice today, that we had one practice today and had no further problems, gives me confidence that we're going to be OK. We have adequate spare engines, and if we have more trouble in practice, we can make changes. But right now, I'm believing it's behind us."(in part from NASCAR.com)(3-24-2013)

In spite of their engine problems and those at Gibbs , I still don't see them to be in as bad shape as Stewart Haas . Tony seems to have no handle on his problems ,while Gibbs and Roush do. Just wonderin.

While I don't expect much from Patrick or Newman, Stewart starting 8th should be a good indicator of where SHR stands with regards to how well the cars runs according to the adjustments they make. If they makes any sense

I don't see Stewart struggling. He wrecked at Daytona, sheet happens. He wrecked at Bristol, same analogy. He finished 8th at Phoenix and 11th at Vegas.

While I don't expect much from Patrick or Newman,

I understand Patrick , even though her car this weeekend was undriveable in practice , but Newman is still a top 15 driver in my book and he can't get a handle of the set up either . A couple of years back , Roush discovered they had a software problem that was making a basic flaw in their chassis design, throwing off all their set ups. I just wonder if there is something similar going on there . If you guys think Tony is running as well as he should ,than maybe they are fine but their crew chiefs are wrong. What is Zippy doing about it?

Kinda like Gordon did for the first half of the season last year.

Well ,I hope he finds something in the race because he has gone backwards in practice . He went from 10th to 14th to 27th,with no 10 lap runs in any of them. His teammates will be of no help as their cars aren't driveable . I had Tony picked for today , but it ain't gonna happen. And luck has nothing to do with practice.

They blocked off all the turn one and turn four seats, so I asked one of the officials why, and he said that they wanted to bunch everyone up for tv. I figured it was either that, or less of an area to clean before the Sun race.
