Goodyear Tires performance at Fontana

Not an air traffic controller but my job requires me to be a master of many different skills, my employer is extremely happy with my performance. Talking to people on the internet is NOT one of my specialties however. :moon:

I wouldn't consider pushing a broom, scrubbing toilets, and taking out the trash "skills". :D

So, we now want NASCAR to monitor the tire pressure on the cars? Goodyear gives them a recommended tire pressure. Teams can follow it or not. I don't think it should be NASCAR's responsibility.
Why not when we have teams not folowing and wrecking race cars, taking out cars that happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time? Any time an accident can be avoided I'm all for it, mandate a psi, it is time.

We get pissed when NASCAR mandates shocks, springs, gear ratio's, etc..... yet we want them start mandating tire pressure? We want them to monitor the pressure on each individual car during the race? We want the teams to have less restrictions on them and now we're asking for more? There is way too much being made of this past weekend. How about the teams go by the recommendations that are already given to them each and every week. Again, recommendations. Teams are being given room to work. That's a good thing. NASCAR mandating and monitoring tire pressure is not a good thing. Tire pressure is all part of the car's setup. How can you want to take that away from the teams too? Teams pushed the limits and some found that they found that they went beyond them. They learn from that and then they adapt. Most teams did just that this past weekend. Like the old saying goes..... Be careful what you ask for..... You might just get it.

The extra 600 pounds of down force on the left rear tire and the capability of extra camber created the tire problems.

The crew chiefs caused the problems, not the tires.

You can be sure that if they bring the same tire back to California next time , Jimmie will lap the field . Chad is likely working 24/7 on the solution. :)

Funny how we complain about nascar manufacturing yellow flags to create excitement, but LOVE a race riddled with yellow flags manufactured by teams using unsafe tire pressures. I guess all the yellow flags generated by teams running HALF the recommended tire pressure are considered natural??? I guess race fans really do want races riddled with yellow flags, they just want to be fooled into thinking they are all just part of racing.

Now Brian just needs to find a tire manufacturer who loves the idea of having millions of people watching their tires blow up every Sunday and everyone will be happy.

You use 'we' pretty loosely! I honestly do not believe the phantom yellow hogwash and I certainly didn't enjoy the multiple cautions Sunday. In between the cautions was some dang fine racing.

JJ was doing fine until Jeff caught him and he had to turn some faster times. I would be willing to bet Chad would do things differently if given the chance.

True. I'm not sure how I picked up that habit. :D

I thought the 'race' was a farce. When the rubber yellow came out with 29 to go, I knew it would be a mess. Tires that can't make it thru a run is unacceptable in my book, no matter the reason. But so many fans enjoyed the wild west show, Brian may allow teams to put oil in their tires for added fan excitement.

The left rear was the only tire that was an issue. The bigger spoiler, increase in camber and a bumpy track and the monster reared it's ugly head.

Also, not everyone had problems.

You're forgetting the biggest factor. Some teams used half the recommended minimum tire pressure in the left rear, and they decided this race. If I pulled into the tire shop and tried to claim my tread wear warranty discount while I had 16 lbs of air in the tires, they would laugh at me.

Here's something for chopper fans everywhere. A Toyota blew a tire and spun, thus handing the win to another Toyota that was 8 seconds behind a Chevy at the time.

LOL

There were times going through the bumps that the left rear tire looked like a slick on a dragster during a burnout.

OK, Goodyear knew:
The cars would be faster and generate more down force
The track is known to be "bumpy" and would place more stresses on the tires
Nascar knew:
Crew chiefs, give them a inch and they'll take a metric yard regarding aggressiveness in set ups.

After reading more about this tire problem, or fiasco if you prefer, I'm not sure if we can't place blame evenly across the board.

Discussion , discussion . We all know that Goodyear will come back with a harder ,safer , tire that will last a full fuel run . And yes we will be back to discussing how it detracts from the racing .

@bobpockrass

Greg Biffle said he prefers tire management over tires that don't produce competitive racing.

@nateryan

Greg Biffle notes when tires have been made so that they don't wear much, "the races are awful."

LOL

I was saying exactly the same thing. It was obvious to me these teams were allowed to go too far and create a dangerous situation.
What if a tire blew and Danica or Jr got hurt? We'd never hear the end of it.

And yet the GOODYEAR slick on the dragster still holds up thru the run?

GP said they were having the same problem and set minimum tire pressures to keep teams from going too far. Why nascar lets teams go so far beyond the minimum tire pressure set by Goodyear is beyond reason.

I'm putting 100% blame on the teams and NASCAR.

NASCAR because they are stretching these teams so thin that they are afraid to make more than a 15 lap run in practice, and the teams for going into this race all 'pink clouds' with no real race-scenario practice runs. Assuming they could just run around with next-to-flat tires all day.

The track is amazing. The racing has been amazing... God I hope there isn't a knee-jerk reaction on the horizon.

already tried that. hoosier / goodyear tire war yrs ago.

note----very few tires "blew out" ........most had slow leak ....went flat last week.
allowed driver ta get ta apron.

I don't know which teams didn't know about the tire issues by the end of practice . I sure knew and was considering changing my picks . Then I figured that the teams wouldn't go out there under race conditions and run those same tire pressures , that would be just plain stupid . Boy was I wrong.

this is it, Teams try to win under the new rules period. Especially early in the season. This means they are gonna take chances, run on the ragged edge as long as they can. that tire gave them a great race, teams pushed the limits and paid for it . Simple rule from long ago" Don't wear your tires out" you'll be faster in a longer run. CC's and teams are to blame here.Goodyear gave them the tire they asked for.

jeff -n- tony better wise up.
can't run old yrs past set ups in '14 !
