Hall of Fame Voting

Oh I agree he was special, my dad rooted for him so I know all about him, but it seems like more of a "what he could have been" vote than anything else. He would've gotten in eventually, it just seems too soon for me personally.

Bobby Labonte would have been my vote.
I like Labonte too and he should be in. You could say Davey was a "might of been vote" but his record before his death was incredible and most insiders thought he was just hitting his stride. He actually was leading the IROC Championship points with 1 race to go that he would have won by starting but never got the chance.

Simply put growing up in Chicago area, Michael Jordan was my childhood hero. But Jeff Gordon was a damn close second. I don’t care he wasnt unanimous, that’s for others to worry about. It’s surreal to see someone I cheered for through grade school, high school, college and finally adult hood make into a hall of fame, I was invested man. A bad day at the track for Jeff would ruin my day for me, even when in 2014 I was 29 years old when Kez went for that “open” hole and ruined Jeff’s last real chance at a championship, I was in tears. Dip$hit. 1998 ( I think) , when Rusty punted the 24 at Richmond I was pissed but elated when Jeff got him back at Bristol in 02 to win the Sharpie 500. So many memories of cheering for the guy on Sundays with my family, I’m glad JG is in it was a true honor being a fan of his. 1998 will always be awesome watching him win 13 but 2014 was awesome too because I enjoyed it as an adult. The 97 Winston Million/Southern 500 win still gives me goosebumps. There was also a lot of heartbreak, I never thought he’d win his last championship in 2001.Never. Thanks Chase, Playoffs, Playoff Grid or whatever other bastardized way they use to crown a champion. The good times outweigh the bad times though, not even close. To me there’ll never be another Gordon, while I was and am a fan of others (Schumacher, Dale Sr, Dale Jr, Tony Stewart, Chase Elliott,Bill Elliott, Sebastian Vettel to name a few) JG is my all time favorite race car driver. The time watching him during his career went fast but what a journey it was. When people ask me who my favorite race car driver is for the rest of my life , I’ll always say Jeff Gordon.
Replace Jeff Gordons name with Bobby Allison and your story tells mine, just different moments. Nice job.

We really missed out on a Davey vs Gordon rivalry. People were wrapped up in Earnhardt vs Gordon, but for my money Allison vs Gordon would have been a once in a generation rivalry.

Knowing Davey into his early 50's lol

I wonder how long Bobby would have raced. He raced a long time but he still strong heading to Pocono in 1988. I think he would have raced at least into the 1990s.

That would have been awesome.

Unfortunately, they only got to run in 17 Cup races together before Davey's death.

Hard to believe a fan of his would call him a dip$hit but whatever. Was kinda boneheaded to try and block a guy that was already there.

I’m pretty pleased with the group. Surprised Jack got in but glad he did. Man gets hardly any credit for what he had done for drivers. Didn’t realize it but aside from Jamie McMurrey, Jack has not hired another Cup driver. Talk about launching careers.

Dave’s had 19 wins in 191 races. Yeah, he was going to be a badass.

I like Davey Allison and glad he made it in.

But in my opinion he shouldn't have been in before Bobby Labonte. Being a champion should be automatic into the hall. He won cup and xfinity.
And he won his title when Gordon had Everham. Earnhardt still racing competitively and Dale Jarrett at full strength.

I believe Ted Musgrave, Jeff Burton, Kevin Lepage, and Johnny Benson were all already in Cup when he hired them.
You are correct. I listened to an interview yesterday between Moody and Mark Martin and Mark made that statement. I just watched a video about Jacks NASCAR career and saw Jeff and it rung a bell. Mark is old, I don’t have an excuse....lol

Benson drove for him?

They're still up there in the stands booin ol Kez :lol2:Nascar fans have a long memory. :D

Probably. As long as he was competitive he would run.

Dropping some knowledge there. Seems to bear out. Also, Chad Little was already driving in Cup for a team that got purchased by Roush.

It is still true that Roush largely developed their own drivers.

Who doesnt meet your "bar" of expectations?

Allison. I'm not the least bit swayed by could have, would have, or tragic endings for HoF selections. When the Hall was first announced, I sat down with a list of race winners and determined where I thought the bar should be set. My determination was 20 wins and a championship, or 30 wins without a championship. Certain other achievements and accomplishments could sway those hard numbers just bit, but I stand by my threshold. There's a buttload of other racing Halls of Fame. I would have liked to seen the NASCAR Hall be only for the MOST elite. I figure by the time we are done, we WILL have Ernie Irvan, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, Geoff Bodine, and Sterling Marlin in the Hall too.

Allison wasnt a could have or a would have. He was a Championship Caliber driver who lost his life at a young age and was putting up numbers that proved his greatness. Nobody in the business I know would agree with you that watched Davey race. Like I said above in another post he was 1 race away from winning the IROC Championship when he got killed. He was loved by the fans and was well on his way to a great career. This isnt a hall of stats, its a Hall of Fame.

Davey for sure would have been a multi time Winston Cup Champion. Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte or Dale Jarrett would not have won the Cups they won in the middle 90’s early 2000’s had Davey been alive. I truly believe that.

What you mean then is a Hall of Popularity.

Fame is what I mean and what I said. Its not even worth debating with you really. You cant even follow your own criteria. According to you Kulwicki doesnt meet "your" standard either which proves how flawed it is. The people in the sport who matter understand and thats why they both are in.

Whoever doesn't vote for people like Gordon, Petty, Earnhardt, etc. the first time around are morons. They're like the baseball voters that refuse to make anyone a 100% vote getter. It's stupid. People like that shouldn't be allowed to participate.

I agree. I think it calls into question the validity of the whole process, which is exactly what I've been saying.

Fact is all went in their first try. Process is solid.

The very fact that nobody has gotten 100% of the votes proves that certain voters are getting personal agendas in the way of doing the proper job. There isn't one single valid argument that could possibly be expressed to deny Gordon of getting 100%.

Not everybody has an "Agenda" and is out for themselves. Maybe they knew Gordo had enough support and thought someone else deserved a vote also.

Deciding someone else deserved a vote in this case is the DEFINITION of having an agenda.

Please, it most certainly is not. First of all its not a covert operation and they were planning to vote someone else in to begin with. You do know they have deliberations the day of and many of the voters are swayed to vote for someone else after they hear something they didnt know about a nominee right?

Seeing those tweets made me smile, what a special class. I'm very happy for all Gordon, Penske, and Roush, but especially happy for the families and loved ones of Kulwicki and Allison. They both did a whole lot in a short amount of time, and are getting proper recognition for it.

Sorry, but there simply isn't ANYBODY on that list that should have pulled a vote away from Gordon. After that, we can argue all you want, but THAT one is indisputable.
