Hamlin fined for comments

The first time I read his comments was in the story covering the fine. So I feel his comments were somewhat out of context or biased. If I had read the comments without the story of penalties I would have thought all he was saying is the new car is a work in progress, even Nascar says there will be some tweeks.

NASCAR administrative chart... New car is under advanced technology, Pemberton is in the no emotions section. Drivers are in the robots area. Hamlin is a Zombie, new ideas are Aliens

I dunno. Denny is saying what I have been saying all along about the Gen6 Car.

Increased downforce = increased aero-dependancy
Increased aero-dependancy = increased aero-push
Increased aero push = increased single-file racing (especially on 1.5 mile aero-dependant tracks)

NASCAR punishing Hamlin for stating the obvious is like Wile E. Coyote punishing the Roadrunner for being fast.
It's bull****!

Kudos to Kyle Petty for standing up for Hambone!!!

After watching the press meeting with Pemberton, I wondered if they fine Journalists for asking the wrong questions.

ok I personally am no denny hamlin fan but this is BS any one got an email I want to sent nascar a complaint about this. they need to take some heat over this.

It's not what he said was far from the truth. Granted this car is not dialed in after 2 events but we've seen less passing (and even less quality passes) with this car so far but the COT sucked out of the gate to. I'm sure after all that NASCAR and the manufacturers put into this car the comments weren't appreciated, but to fine him is BS. I'm sure he won't pay the fine but I'm also sure JGR will pay NASCAR asap if they lose appeal. Just sucks for us they gave Denny a reason to cry, and we all know he'll capitalize on his opportunity :D

I agreed with the Clements fine but I can't say I agree with this one. That being said Denny will pay the fine after he gets a talking to from FedEx and Gibbs.

@dennyhamlin

The short of the long of it is I believe I was severely disrespected by NASCAR by getting fined. I believe that the simple fact of us not even having a conversation about this issue before I was hit with a fine has something to say about our relationship. What I said was 1 sentence taken completely out of context. Most drivers will tell you that we constantly have our AND nascars best interest in mind when speaking. On the other hand I am a person that worked very hard from the BOTTOM to get where I am today and someone telling me that I can give my 100 percent honest opinion really bothers me. Since being fined in 2010 I have been a lot more careful about what I say to media and I felt this past weekend felt completely in my rights to give a assessment of the question asked. I feel as if today NASCAR lost one of its biggest supporters vocally of where our sport is headed. So in the end there are no winners. I said today I would not pay the fine. I stand by that and will go through the process of appealing. Trust me, this is not about the money.. It's much deeper. I will now shift my focus on giving FedEx and my team what they deserve this weekend, a win.

Wouldn't it be kinda neat if ten or fifteen other drivers grew some balls and got behind Denny?

It's their playground and they want all their drivers to be boring ass robots like Jimmie Johnson. NASCAR lost MILLIONS of fans and viewers during the Jimmie Johnson Show.
Thats exactly what happened and what is happening. NASCAR continues to lose it's audience because the sport keeps getting more boring.

Unfortunately, if the other drivers don't stand up against NASCAR for Hamlin, NASCAR's gonna get away with this and it's not gonna end well for Hamlin.

Exactly!! Thats the only way it would change things. If its their sandbox and their rules, change the way the players play in it. I can see it now. pre-race interviews . how do you feel about your car? I'm gonna have to say no comment because I don't want to bash our product. Post race same thing,. every driver all day. Funny as "Shiote"

Unforunately no other driver is going to stand up against NASCAR. Hamlin is going to be hung out to dry. I have gained a lot more respect for him though with this.

In the interview above what Jimmy said is right on. It isn't the car, it is the tracks they race on. They are too narrow, most have only one lane that works, the track surfaces and tracks need to be reconfigured for better racing.

Phoenix is the only track that's been reconfigured that has produced better racing. That's really the funny thing. They did it your way and Jimmie's way. They even reconfigured Bristol to allow for more passing and the fans, for the most part, hated it.

This is so sad, and Jimmie is such a whiney ass smooching robot, has he always been like this? Winning those chases during the no touch years, has made him a weak little baby. Danica has more balls than this dude.

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Nascar a formula race now.Like Formula Vee, Formula Ford,F1,and our V8 Super Cars are the same .They all have basically zero passing unless it's under brakes on a road course.
The only way I.M.O. to bring back racing (passing) is by crew chief ingenuity but isn't that cheating.???

Nascar might as well issue a list of preapproved questions to the media as well as a list of corresponding appropriate answers to each driver. I'd say give them three options per question.

I guess they can say and do what they will but, IMO, no driver has ever proven to be as detrimental to stock car racing as has Brian France and his minions.

It's still stock car racing, so move the friggin guy and take the fast line away. IMO, that's what used to seperate nascar from the rest. Get the rear bumper right, slow the cars down, get the tire right and then really have at it.

Part of me thinks that's the main reason the racing has gone progressively downhill because the specs and tolerances are so tight now on every car they're essentially the same but we had great racing in the IROC series so who knows maybe it's the tires which are a big factor in the quality of the racing in this series. I think I'll wait until mid-season at least before I start to bash the new car and the racing it produces. It's been said before but this is a brand new car and the teams have to figure it out. Some will get it figured out first and that will produce some of the disparity between teams we need to have for passing and good races. It's only been 2 races so the data-collecting process has just started.

He will appeal. He won't win because Nascar has too much to lose. They have to save [fat] face. Gibbs will pay the fine.
Someone previously mentioned a union or drivers association. That was tried before and big bill threatened drivers who joined they would never race on his tracks again.
It's their ball, bat, field and officials.

this is where the big name drivers need to tell nascar they need the drivers as much as the drivers need them. The teams attract the sponsors that provide the money to race. Without these drivers, nascar would be finished. Without these teams, nascar inc wouldn't have $2 billion worth of marketing deals all their own. It's very telling that all these years many teams have been near bankrupt while nascar inc's profits grew by a nice percentage.

Does any of this really matter? When I am watching a race I don't think about anything other than the race itself and where my driver and the drivers on my fantasy teams are running. Obvsiously it gives something about which the journalist can write and provides ample message board fodder but does it really matter in the big picture? What true fan would stop watching over something like this? I certainly don't think anyone will quit driving in NASCAR because of this.

FTR, I logged on to my NASCAR Fan Council account and sent NASCAR a message regarding my opionion that Denny's fine was unwarranted and that while I understand the need for drivers to not be allowed to disparage the sport I don't think that Denny was doing anything other than making a factual comment that anyone who watched the race would agree with.

I don't think my comment will make any difference but at least it's out there.

He doesn't have to pay up by Sunday. Pemberton said Denny has the right to appeal and that takes time. NASCAR is in no hurry.

Well until he pays up I'm thinking he gets picked on. That's not a black helicopter thing either it's just Nascar showing who runs the show.

I think he wins the appeal.

I don't see how he could lose this one. Saying something like 'It's like when we started out with the gen 5. It takes time to figure it out' isn't slamming anything. nascar sure is touchy about the CoT legacy when they should be proud. It sure saved a few lives, and that's what the last 2 gens are about.
