hendrick 2019

So you noticed that, too. Apparently, these guys forgot about his run at Phoenix!

I have never seen so much about a run in Phoenix a couple of years ago....

This is Chase's team for the foreseeable future. I think Bowman and Byron can be serviceable drivers who can win every once in a while, like an Almirola or Bowyer type, but not the type of drivers who will be regarded as serious title contender each year.

they don''t at Gibbs Hamlin proves that. Bowman once again only has one full year experience, I am not that dumb to write somebody off their first year or even the second or third, like weasel Joe does. Hendrick usually doesn't operate that way, but there are exceptions when a loose cannon is signed like a KDB. :D

Well, if you were an owner worried about sponsorship, you might be less patient.

I think it is way too soon to tell. I do worry about Byron, he is going to get the Elliott/Hambone treatment or something similar.

Honestly, I hope Mr. H. stays with these guys so that we can play all of this out....but I don't know if he will/can.

I don't know about that. JJ needs to be in front in the winners column for some fans. But yeah it doesn't matter to some. But they have been trying to throw him under the bus for one crappy season. I hope all of them get a hold of the new setups. More competition never hurts. It sucked looking at the board and seeing him running in the 20's a lot

It's kind of a big deal considering he led more laps and competed among the best in the car he was in compared to two drivers who have a tremendous stature in the sport and happened to drive the same car and didn't quite manage to emulate his results.

It's not just that one run, either. He had a respectable 2018 season. As other members here pointed out, he was more often than not closer to the fore at Hendrick.

I can’t argue with JJ’s resume and all the wins, championships, etc. BUT the second half of this year was a passing of the torch. JJ is the figure head, but it’s Chase’s team now.

With the new package next year, 2/3 of the races will be “plate racing” type lotteries so who knows.

Eh. Pretty good point, but that was a different package at a different time. For some reason, this guy's success is guaranteed, and I don't agree.

Eh, I put this here, It isn't all Hendrick, I don't think it will matter that much. Something to read..it's the dark days.
Chevrolet sees "more work to do" before 2019 NASCAR season
For the second consecutive season, Chevrolet had no drivers contending for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship.

The All Star Package brings hope IMO. It's a new game. Who is going to be first out of the gate?

Yeah that is the big question mark for next season IMO. It's pretty much a whole new ball game. It's possible it will suit some drivers style better than others, and some racing teams will be better at getting it figured out than others. For me, I don't think the 4 or 5 top drivers/teams will have any problems with the changes. But there will be new shenanigans.

I can see our final four from this year being good straight out of the gate - if the Mustangs do not face the same developmental problems that the Camaro has faced, that is.

The way Chad treated JJ sometimes— I don’t believe it will be an ideal relationship with Byron. Although, I do believe progress will be made.

Only one winning driver out of four — at HMS in 2018. Can’t see that happening again in 2019 without “consequences and repercussions”... :D

Seems a little early in his career to determine his abilities. It took Chase longer than expected to win. Last year was rough in the Bowtie camps. I fault the cars last year more so than the drivers. Maybe the Chevys will be better this year. Who knows?

Much better than the 2018 car. I like it
I had no idea Jr was even there when I initially saw this. Cool if he’s still involved somewhat with the 88 team but I’d say it has more to do with Nationwide. I’d wager that Bowman wins a race this coming year, in fact I’d say everyone at HMS wins a race this year (is this a BOLD Prediction??? Not sure yet) however I’d also say we have now idea how the Chevy’s will run in this new aero package they are trotting out. Everyone is getting antsy for Daytona....I can’t wait for Atlanta.

With the new rules, HMS will be able to go back to Chad's cheating notes. :sarcasm:

I sure hope JR left Nationwide a little money because they are going to have to write a check to me and 3 other of my teammates sometime in the near future.:D

Part of the deal to keep Nationwide sponsoring the 88 car was that Dale was included in the package. Plus with his close business and personal ties to HMS, I think he has a genuine interest in seeing the team as a whole and his old car in particular do well. I also think he looks at Alex as one of "his guys".

So far, so good for the debut of a revamped Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 team this season.
Much to the delight of Johnson’s fans, his No. 48 Chevrolet was among the fastest in the two-day test and ran up front in most of the 25-lap drafting sessions.
“The cars are sensitive to the adjustments that are made. Three of the (first) four draft sessions, we were very competitive. The (Friday morning session), we weren’t as competitive,” Johnson said.

“There are so many ways to get speed out of a race car and to have these sessions to try some really major concept ideas or changes is very helpful. We’ve definitely found one we don’t want to run already.”

If Kevin Meendering left Las Vegas with a big smile on his face, there’s a very good reason.
No, the new crew chief for seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson probably didn’t hit it big at the slot machines or poker tables, but he definitely was very happy with what his new driver did in Thursday and Friday’s NASCAR open test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Johnson was fastest of 21 NASCAR Cup and Xfinity drivers that took part in the test, hitting a top speed of 178.885 mph on Thursday. Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski was fastest in Friday’s abbreviated half-day session, just a tick below Johnson’s previous day’s speed at 178.436 mph.
“We got out there in a decent pack and figured out what issues we’re going to have, what we need to work on and some direction of how we need to develop our cars.
“The communication’s been great, he’s easy to talk to and I feel like the learning curve has been pretty quick.”
“(Johnson’s) feedback’s phenomenal,” Meendering said. “He really has a great understanding and feel for the car and gives great feedback, so it really makes my job a lot easier.

After two races the Hendrick cars look pretty consistent but they need to improve them for sure.
----------------
13 Bowman
16 Johnson
17 Elliott
18 Byron

The cars ran great at Daytona, just didn't get any results due to no fault of their own. Atlanta was a dumpster fire. The Ganassi cars showed it wasn't an engine problem, so that gets us back to chassis and aero. SOMEWHERE, they just aren't getting it.

I thought Bowman had a real good chance of winning Daytona but things out of his control kept costing him spots and then he would work his way back towards the front until he finally got caught up in that last crash. You can only dodge a bullet so many times before it finally hits you. I definitely think Bowman, Elliott, and Johnson will win some races this year. Byron could have a shot also.

I suspect that Mr H. might have a talk with Mr. Gnassi over this one. Also, someone tell Larson he wasn't the best Chevy team last year.

“I feel like Hendrick plays games in a way with NASCAR. I feel like they always start the year off kind of bad to like show NASCAR that they’re being nice and cooperating and following the rules and stuff, and then it gets a couple of months in, and they start cheating and finding some speed.

“So I don’t know. But it was satisfying. It’s been satisfying the last few years to be considered the top Chevy team. That’s something that this race shop prides itself on, but we don’t need to be the best Chevy team. We want to be the best team.”

I am pretty surprised at larson's comments about cheating etc. where was the cheating last year? if they ran that bad and were still cheating all I gotta say is they still sucked. I saw this coming in practice before the race even started. I noticed the HMS cars were 2-3 mph slower than the top running cars. That is a mile off for those who don't pay attention to practice speeds. that is why the 48 got 2 laps down. I kept thinking well maybe as the tires wear and race pace slows at atlanta the HMS cars will hold speed better than the rest. uhh no. The 48 was 24th and the worst of the HMS cars. but the other 3 all finished about the same. We saw this same trend last year, it shows the cars all ran about the same speed or were only so fast and it had nothing to do with the driver pretty much. As a side note once larson got back in the pack he couldn't pass. DW speculated that the 42 looked low in the back, ie they gave up downforce for being fast out front. The HMS cars just flat out sucked. I would be worried if I was them.

Shots fired I guess... (although I think he was just being snarky.)
