How Do We Fix Plate Racing

Short tracks and road courses are boring. Talladega and Daytona put on the best shows of the year.
I disagree with the first part there. Short tracks and road courses have been some of the most exciting races in the last ten years, especially in the lower tier series. These cars need to be punching a bigger hole in the air somehow. Something to make these played races exciting.

I don't see any of them particularly better than any other track, a great race can break out on any of them.

Knocking down just one of the banked corners could make a difference. But changing Daytona might be considered sacrilege.

Remember when you could tell the manufacturer with just a brief glance? Then came parity...
Screw wind tunnel numbers. If my brand has better tunnel numbers suck it up buttercup, go to work and make your car better. Same with hp, if I'm within the rules and making more hp, tuff chit.

Want to get serious? Go to the 5.0 / 302 CI block. Go back to the valance and get rid if the splitter. Get the cars up in the air .

So what everyone wants is to turn Daytona and talladega into another pocono or Indy? May as well disband the series if that happens, I want to see two to three wide racing for hundreds of laps, like we saw less than a decade ago. It’s suppose to be a package deal, put on a show 4 races out of the year to keep most of us entertained, then spend the other 32 races boring us. But if yesterday is the best show they are willing produce, screw them, I got better thing to do with my time and money. We need a better car, we need someone to smack these drivers across the head until they realize their paycheck is tied to directly to the actual entertainment they produce, and we absolutely need to get rid of the stages at Daytona and talladega. Short pitting in groups, which was caused by the abnormally longer stages, is mostly to blame for that waste of 4 hours.

Plate racing is the most exciting racing NASCAR produces. It's also the most watched style of racing for them but this place is just weird on stuff like that. Short tracks are slow and boring, only good one is Bristol, well Richmond as well if you want to count it. Road courses have been better in recent years but are still the worst racing in NASCAR. I'm all about the speed, give me a Superspeedway or a mile and a half all day over short tracks and road courses.

Nope, not everyone.

They aren't reconfiguring Daytona or Dega. Suggesting it is a waste of breath, or in this case, key strokes.

Both of those tracks pull in great attendance and provide exciting racing for the most part.

Plate racing!!! Yippeee!!!

restricted horsepower, foot to the floor all the way around, can't pass by yourself or get away from the slowest car in the field, just waiting for the "big one" and hoping not to be a part of it!!!

yeah, that's my kind of racing!!!

(please note intended sarcasm).

They need to go back to last year's plate package. These two races have been complete dogs this year. The fun in watching plate races is in watching the teamwork, the bold moves, the blocks, the offense and the defense as lines get formed up and mount attacks on the leader. Pack racing is the only time we get to see leaders worry about the cars behind them and not just check out. None of that is possible if the cars are too unstable to handle. That's why nobody was making any moves yesterday, they couldn't. Boring. Go back to what worked for so long.

Totally agree, it's not true racing, it's trying to get lucky, avoid the huge wreck and hope you got a buddy to draft with at the end. It's ridiculous, has been for 25 years. I wouldn't miss Dega or Daytona if they were gone and a couple of short tracks replaced them. Or as an alternative they run the road course at Daytona.

To me, this is just reason I don't like plate racing. Once a driver passes someone, is clear and pulling away, he shouldn't have to worry about that car again.

I don't know of any other sport where handicapping the strongest performers is considered a good thing.

Huh? you have got to be kidding. Boxing, just about any class of racing, Drag, sports cars, open wheel, horse jump racing, for examples

I dunno squat about boxing, horse racing, or drag racing, and am apparently unfamiliar with this aspect of sports cars and open wheel racing. Can you be more specific?

If one horse pulls out in front of the others, do they have a mechanism that lets the others catch back up to him? And people think this is good?

how do we fix it?

I like the racing now, but I would like to see us return to cars that more closley resemble their stock inspiration. rip the splitter off and get the cars in the air. I kinda liked mechanical grip.

You see back ends of those cars yesterday? It was like I was looking at a stanced civic not a stock car

in jump racing they add weight to the horse if it wins a race for the next one., in sports car racing thy have the B.O.P balance of performance and they even out the different motors and cars. In Drag racing they have classes, in some drags they have a time bracket they have to stay in, go faster than that and they lose. Boxing? you don't know heavyweight, bantam weight or fly weight?

Oh I’m sure  Limiting the HP had zero effect on the lack of runs we saw vs all week at Daytona :sarcasm:
Not one bit. They were running well over 200 mph. It was the way the cars were behaving side by side.

I didn't know that about drags. But regarding those and boxing, isn't that like Cup and Xfinity? Nobody's forcing a heavyweight to tie one hand behind his back if a flyweight is dumb enough to get in the ring with him.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that. But BOP changes made between races won't a dominant car from checking out for the day; it just won't be able to run away next week. And not everyone considers BOP a good thing either.

Welcome to NASCAR, the big league of motor sports. We provide welfare racing four times a year to entice our non-regular audience to tune in for all the action (we promise at least one multi-car crash that will claim several victims that no amount of skill can help them escape!) and excitement that won't appear at the following week's event at our normal cookie cutter venue.

If you love the front wheel drive four cylinder class at your local half mile track, you are going to love what we provide at Daytona and Talladega!!!

Boxing also has different weighted gloves. Mayweather always made sure the hard punchers he faced had cartoonishly large gloves.

The nfl, nhl, and nba also have salary caps, award better draft picks to poor performers, and the higher risk of injuries handicaps the best teams and creates a revolving door of champions.

I understand this perspective. I also understand the "short tracks are slow and boring" mindset, noxious as it is. I don't understand people who actually do enjoy the racing 34 out of 38 weeks and still go to bat for Daytona and Talladega plate racing as if it is superior and changing it would be inferior.

The teams figured out how to remove the rear spoiler (twisted sisters) almost out of the equation to make the car as fast as possible. They drove like crap, Penske showed up with the fastest cars and stunk up the show...so lets get rid of the restrictor plate tracks. So lets fill the venues with small single file tracks..yeah that's the ticket.

Yeah, but those are season-long things that affect all games the same way. They don't redraft for two games out of the season, or play two games with different rules.

change the field, I am so tired of watching 100 yards...it's ridiculous they are handicapping the faster players. :D:p

How are you such a huge racing fan, which you clearly are, if this is honestly how you summarize all of the other tracks?
