Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Road America is still in the process of trying to land a contract extension for Cup. Their date came from Chicagoland and NASCAR still wants that Chicago street race, however difficult that may be.

They’re also repaving the whole track in October.

Road America was great last year, I hope they can stay there for a few more years.

I really wish they would keep all road coarse races at actual road course venues. No more mickey mouse Rovals please.

I hope it stays, everyone who can should camp out at Road America at least once.

I'm sadly the only person on this board and probably in the fandom that wants Chicagoland to come back over Road America staying. Its a cross to bear.

I’d like to see Chicagoland come back, but not at the expense of Road America. There are a few NASCAR-owned tracks with two dates that I’d like to see drop one, but that probably isn’t happening anytime soon.

Road America should be a July 4th staple on the NASCAR calendar for the next decade. All the street race talk is intriguing but the experiments should be limited to exhibition races before taking them to primetime in my opinion.

I'll take the street race.
There are more than enough 1.5 milers and a street race would be something new and unique.
if the city government here in Chicago even can agree with the sanctioning body on staging a street race. Good luck....this is the same city government that is about to lose the Chicago Bears, as the most current example. For previous examples.....just google Chicago City Government. The future of racing in the Chicago Area is at Chicagoland Speedway IMO.

No it should be at Daytona like it always was. Can’t believe people forgot about the Firecracker 400 & plus there is hurricanes in Florida in late August.

I could name 1-2 that I wouldn’t mind as well and think it would work, I don’t see it happening

this. times 100. run that race 11am in the morning to avoid storms like it was ran before and lets go.

I don't know why you all pine for things that aren't going to happen. Just sit back and enjoy racing, just not at Chicagoland.

because some of things that are happening now schedule wise kinda suck. Not everything. Just some.

I know everyone hates Chicagoland, but I don’t think NASCAR values Road America as much as some fans do because raTinGs
yea I agree in that I'm not trying to hop onto the Chicagoland train because it seems like the cool thing to do. I wanted it back for selfish reasons because its 20 min from my house and I always was entertained by the racing there. It's a shame that others didnt feel the way I did and then stopped showing up altogether. I also think the scheduling and the track itself didnt do the local fan base any favors. If it doesnt come back so be it... but if racing were to occur here I think racing at the speedway is more realistic than a street race, I just think that idea is pie in the sky and pigs flying. I do think there 1-2 many road course races on the schedule to my liking and would love to see those exchanged out for ovals in the future. but I digress, they said Wilkesboro was done and buried....... maybe I should just give up on Chicagoland.

I think all the Chicago haters should direct their attention at NASCAR and Adam Stern.

Adam Stern does just report the news. To some, a press corps that is free to report the news qualifies as "the enemy of the people" as I'm sure you are aware.
Ah well I wasn't aware Adam is an enemy of NASCAR fandom . I learn something new each day

This Chicago mourning is as boring as Rev and his Camaro spiels. There is nothing, no indicators, a dead website

Not saying that the racing at Chicagoland was in any way unique but on race day I could get from my house to my seat in less than an hour.

So there's that.
That is good for you. A few years back I went to Chicagoland and there wasn't much that I liked about it. Besides the lackluster racing, driving to and from the hotel to the track was quite depressing. I have gone to quite a few tracks in my day and of all them Chicagoland is the one I would least likely return to. Just my opinion.

Besides the lackluster racing...
Well the thing is, everyone has their own criteria for judging how good the racing is. Chicagoland frequently produced spectacular racing when graced with reasonably full horsepower and reasonably low downforce... but that's just my opinion.

A lot of folks judge the racing highly when there's "more beating and banging." Others prefer pack racing and lots of "the big one." I care most about the race being a difficult contest of driving skill. By my criteria, Chicagoland with its bumpy, tire-eating surface and multiple grooves checks all the boxes... except when saddled with the NA18D aero package that foisted flaccid motors and tons of excess downforce/sideforce upon us. Just my opinion, of course.

The track closed in 2019 and that is the year the na18D aero package came out, 2019. Don't think that was the problem. Chicagoland lost indycar in 2010 previously.
