Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Once again there’s the assumption IRP (or any other small track) is interested in hosting a Cup race. The entry fee is one obstacle.

Lucas Oil isn’t a cheap company but not sure it’s Cup ready. I hope the Xfinity race moves to IRP at least.

Portland would be a decent host for a Cup Series race, but I’m not sure what race it takes. Was just in Portland and was by the facility, nice area for a NASCAR or IndyCar weekend for sure.

Martinsville is the northernmost track of those hosting the last seven races (2nd and 3rd playoff rounds). Rotate the sequence of the last four or seven playoff races, excluding Talladega as the finale.
Hell the season starts at Daytona, and it doesn't snow there. Why not go full circle and end the season with the final 4 there too. ^_^:newbie::pbjtime::sne::XXROFL:

Homestead is the ticket, even if it rains sometimes.

They're holding the championship race in the middle of the afternoon at a lackluster track in the middle of the desert. Worst championship venue in all of American professional sports.

Looks like you loose the next couple of years lol.

Nobody else has a fixed venue. They all rotate in some form or another.

My big gripe with the Phoenix race is the length. The championship race shouldn't be one of the season's shortest. This is another case of NASCAR not adequately altering the schedule when it went to a playoff format. Jack that puppy up to 400 miles or laps.

I think NASCAR could make the season ending championship race an event that would be better and more exciting for the fans then anyone has ever thought possible. I think the championship race should be the most prestigious and longest race of the year. I also wouldn't have a problem with it being held where the home of NASCAR is. I wouldn't mind seeing a 700-mile championship race at Charlotte to end the season. The Phoenix race is too short and just not an exciting place to hold the most important race of the year. A lot of fans wait all year for the championship race and then it is over in a flash. I think they should make it a 2-week deal like Indy does for the 500 where they have practice sessions and other type races like sprint cars/midgets and late modifieds on the dirt track. They could have open house events at a lot of the race shops like NHRA teams does before the US Nationals. They could add a really big pay out to the winner so the teams that are not in the running for the championship still has a reason to race hard and win the race...and not layover for a championship contending car. Make this race a spectacle... not just another race in their 40-race schedule.

Weather would be the thing that I would be the most concerned about having a championship race in Charlotte in November.

Phoenix sells out twice a year and Homestead-Miami struggles to sell 40,000-45,000 tickets for their one race.

I wish the finale was at Las Vegas Motor Speedway TBH.

That time of the year hopping around the U.S. is very sketchy. California, Vegas and Phoenix are the best bets for decent weather.
For weather concerns those 3 would definitely be less sketchy but then it would just be another race. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb and take some chances if you want to go to a whole different level. If they televised the whole 2 weeks of different activities including the race shops open houses for the fans that couldn't go, would be awesome, also. If NASCAR pulled this off the fan excitement level would be amazing. Even though it will probably never happen, I'm still excited just thinking about what it could be with the right planning and the right people in place.

Why would it be another race? It depends on how it is promoted. Vegas is a party town.

I wasn't talking about partying. I'm talking about race related events that Vegas just doesn't have. Charlotte would be the best venue for the kind of 2-week racing themed extravaganza I was describing. They have most of the NASCAR team race shops, NASCAR themed museums, NASCAR Hall of Fame, NASCAR themed restaurants and bars. The teams would be saving an enormous amount of travel expenses. I used to make Concord my home base for about 3 weeks during our season and I had so much fun driving around doing all of the race related things that are available there. NASCAR fans could make it their vacation for a week or 2 and experience a great time before actual race day even arrived. They could even schedule some concerts during the 2-week period. The sky would be the limit for that place.

Many teams had an open house before the 600. Two in one year might work, who knows.
Yep, there are a lot of NASCAR fans to go around. If it is a good venue, they will come. Most people don't get upset about having too much fun. :)

So this is spreading like wild fire on Twitter. It’s more than likely much to do about nothing…but as the RacingForums.com Scheduling Correspondent, I feel it’s my duty to post this. Look at that white board reaaaaallll carefully

Shake it off and get back in the game. You are one of the MVP'S.
Then this place is in bigger trouble than I thought.
Sorry about the tire. Hope it’s not too much of an inconvenience
It’s inconveniencing Darling Bride to shuttle me to and (hopefully) from work. Bent the rim and they have to order one.
