Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Kentucky and Chicagoland losing races sucks for the fans in those regions but I'm glad NASCAR is finally reducing the number of races on 1.5 mile tracks.
5-6 road courses would be the ideal number, IMO. Cup races at COTA and Road America would be great.
We already have the clash at the Daytona road course so I don't think we need a points race there. Nashville street course would be interesting, to say the least.

Holy crap, this will be one of the most diverse schedule in all of racing. So dang happy they're moving away from the cookie cutters tracks! Don't mind the dirt race at Bristol, I'm glad they're trying something different. This schedule has been the same for YEARS and finally we're going to see something different.

That's because JJ is done and they don't need those tracks for him to get another championship. :sarcasm:

I am happy NASCAR is trying to move away from the over saturation of the 1.5 milers, but a dirt race and a street course are just meh for me, more so the street race, there are so many good R/C's that they could run on instead, and I am just not a fan of dirt racing, but I will go into these changes with an open mind.

I'm just the opposite. The Pinty's series holds a street race with Nascar-esk type cars and it is one of the coolest races I have seen. Lots of speed and short track type contact when the chips are down. IMO much more fun to watch than an Indycar street race.

@TooToughTooTame is Darlington and @AMS is Atlanta. Darlington HAS to be getting a second date, I don't see what else it could be. No way they're touching the Southern 500 on Labor Day Weekend, they learned that lesson the hard way. Atlanta I have no idea. That race is generally well-received but I don't think they'd add another date there, or remove the one they have. Could be they're moving the spring date (again).

We might start getting some leaks tonight. I havent heard on changes to Darlington or Atlanta thats eye brow raising. I really hope Road America gets a playoff date, I'd be so excited for that. Do we know if the playoff races are getting a shake up?

Hope that Amazon Money was worth it. I'm gonna be a broken hearted fan for a while. Since I was a little guy I had always wanted to go to a race, so in 01 I was so thrilled to finally see my hero's race in my home state.... let alone 25 minutes from my parents house. I did everything right we bought the stupid founder's pass, season tickets and then Cup race tickets..... we only missed 5 races in the 19 year history of the track. Hell I even bought the Busch Stand alone tickets and gave them away through my business to entice new fans to go. I hope that Amazon money is worth it, the stupid gimmick dirt race they're gonna do in Bristol, and the gimmick street races. Even if Chicago gets a street race ( which will NEVER happen, we all have a better chance of winning the lottery) I wont go. I wont support another track in this area. Scratch that, Ill try to go the dirt tracks in Southern Illinois and the ARCA Dirt race in Du Quoin. Second time in my life I've had a track I loved go away this one and the first was the Chicago Motor Speedway in Cicero ( which was awesome for CART). I'll still support the sport, I'll try to go to the second Daytona race bi annually and try to make Bristol Night race or cross off that Martinsville pilgrimage that I've wanted to do. I'll also try to make the Southern 500 one of these years. This sucks no matter which way you sliced it, my family and I did go to races, to participate and have it ripped away really really hurts. I'm hoping maybe they get an Indy Car race, which was a better show anyway at the track.

I think Jr. let slip on the Download a few weeks ago that Darlington was getting a spring date again. He mentioned something about leading the Xfinity field in the Nova for a few laps the next time they go there in the spring.

thats cool I hope Darlington gets a spring date again its such a cool track with history and tradition, I always enjoy the racing from there.

Guess they'll drop one venue altogether instead of taking a date from Kansas.

Can someone just build a casino at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

well the North Wilkesboroers and Rockinghamites hoping and praying for a return to those tracks I guess can go away after tomorrow. This was the last small shot that either had, after the realignment and neither is on the schedule its time for Earth to reclaim those places.

Moving Kentucky to Atlanta is interesting for a number of reasons. Taking a sole date away to double up another track, which already has questionable attendance? And can’t Atlanta also be expected to be repaved within a few years, a motivating factor in the move to reconfigure Auto Club? And I believe they didn’t get the gambling bills to pass in the State of Georgia so that proposed $1B casino isn’t happening for now at least.

Bob Pockrass says no talk of Iowa or Gateway getting a Cup race.

Iowa doesn't surprise me, NASCAR hasn't gave a crap about it since they bought it. It's rumored to be for sale.

Gateway is downright disappointing. Don't understand why we add all these road courses, but can't gain a unique oval.

These changes are cool, but I think I would have been fine with Chicago shuttering & Kentucky/Atlanta at 1 race a piece.

I was being facetious. Somewhat.

Huh. My reaction is that if Fox Sports is that taken with dirt track racing, maybe they should seek to broadcast some of it.

It is a bold gamble.

It'd be nice to get weekly WoO races on TV, maybe Fox should try for those races instead of this gamble

I'd become somewhat higher on the prospect if they run heat / qualifier races with transfers, B-Main, not all cars make the main event, etc. That would make it slightly less square peg in a round hole - ish.

I used to advocate heat races but what I saw with the Xfinity series in the last couple of years changed my mind. I doubt they'll send anyone home when they don't have full fields anyway.

The key is that heat races must have real consequences. Otherwise they are just filler.

I dunno, supposedly eliminations are hugely entertaining and drive interest in the playoffs...except nobody is ever actually eliminated. Maybe this can follow suit, and cars that don't make the show will just drive around without being scored.
