Junior scared to RACE at Dega

Junior: "You've just got to pick your battles, and I felt like we were better off not getting in a wreck and trying to stay back there."

Any chance that Junior will get his hand slapped by NASCAR for violating the "100% rule" they announced after last year's blow-up at Richmond ?

Seems to me that the "win & you're in" concept has created a monster that will be raising it's ugly head and conflicting with the "go all-out all the time" directive several more times before we get to the Chase.

He might have been a little gun-shy or even still hurting from the wreck at Texas. If he didn't feel comfortable with what was going on in the pack, kudos for him backing out. It saved him from one crash...

Its not like he rides around the back of every plate race like a few other drivers.

Based on the current points/chase structure I dont blame him at all.
They will just have meetings, maybe fines to teach the drivers not to be so truthful in the future.

For years drivers have been hanging back in an attempt to avoid the big one. It's about finishing the race. When I heard Jr's comments I wasn't sure if he gave up on the race, was concerned about injury, or preserving the car.

With two laps to go he's supposed to muscle his way from 15th on the restart? as soon as the caution flew if he didn't get caught up in the garbage he'd have been frozen. Very smart move on Jr's part.

Kahne went from 31st to 8th in the first three laps of the Nationwide race and those cars were harder to pass in this weekend. It's doable at plate tracks.

can't go from back to front ? 88 started 30th.......but ran up to front fairly easy ..... in brand new chassis # 88-872.
jr just had great 500 mile r&d session yesterday.
didn't wanna risk wreckin such a good car at end.

betcha we see 872 again ....not at daytona as he said ....but back at dega durin chase.

Short tracks and road courses get some of the worst ratings but plate tracks get tons of viewers. I guess that tells you all you need to know about the average NASCAR follower.
Of course plate tracks get the largest TV audience. Casual fans love to see wrecks.

His comments speak to the enormity of the Jr. brand. Anybody else would be butchered for tanking a race. Wonder where else he is reluctant to put his car in the name of preserving his great year? I am actually shocked that he said what he said. I wonder why the hell he would want to divert attention from the best he has ever run to this crap. If I was his PR person, we would be talking about shutting down Twitter, and ceasing the podcast. Maybe opening your mouth isn't such a good thing. Wonder how much respect he has lost.

Four words... win and you're in.

So let me get this straight. One win and Jr. has all the momentum he needs to take this whole thing by the balls? Please. If this is the case, he has over-thought this already, and he is done.

Nah just the opposite, I think more people will respect him for his honesty. When you think about it, this isn't much different than points racing, Jr was looking at the big picture. I say bravo.

ok, Kyle Busch is locked for the chase. He finished 12th at Dega.

What good will that do him once the chase starts?

I've cruised other forums and what I read is hilarious. Some are saying he should have been more like his father and just bulled his way up to the front. I laugh because Big E wasn't called Ironhead and Intimidator for no reason --- he caused his share of problems, consequences be damned. The elder Earnhardt could be a bull in a china shop, and frequently was.
Many people want Dale Jr. to be his dad, he isn't and never will be. From Jr's seat, it wasn't worth the risk to force the issue so late in the race. He, and the good car he had, will live to fight another day. He said he made some bad choices late in the race and there wasn't enough time to correct them. The pit stop really screwed things up, but it had to be done because running out of fuel would have been even worse.

I hope Brad is reading this...

Not a damn thing, but it's good to know that when I invest heart and soul into one of my drivers, I don't have to worry about whether or not he will deem the endeavor as a waste of time. This was Junior's House. Those were Junior's fans. Junior drove like he wins every other week. He doesn't. He hasn't. He hasn't won much frankly. I would think the competitor in him would want more. I was wrong. I feel bad for his fans. They must be pissed.

Mixing 5-hour and Monster energy is bad news Rev, call the poison control center right away :D

If he doesn't want to race, he may as well join the list of start and park drivers up until the chase. I wonder if he'd lose a significant amount of his fan base if he were to do that... I know I wouldn't be a fan of Gordon if he decided to do so, but Jr fans are way different from any other fan base out there.

Why the hell didn't you tell me this sooner! Wait a minute.....wait a minute....I have something to say about Delana's wife.......Here it comes......

Yeah, I don't get it. If he wants to do that, shut the hell up. Just say your car sucked. Don't get Junior's angle on this. Just hoping he has one--meaning that I hope he didn't just stick his foot in his mouth. That would be stupid.

Kyle Busch is the antithesis of Junior in this respect. He wants to win everything all of the time. Honestly, can't see him ever saying that he threw it in with a decent car. This is why I am a fan--even when he disses on my TRD people. When TRD pleases him, he will be Champion. Can't wait.

Kyle18--Did I loan you my Monster plaid skirt and leather bra, or did Aunty steal it again?

I dont blame Junior for laying back, I am glad Kyle didnt though, I dont expect stuff like that from Kyle

Where yeah I wish he might have raced a bit, with how everyone was three wide he'd have to make a stupid to even get to the front, and even at that point he'd get hate for that. At least he was honest, would you rather him say that he tried but couldn't get anywhere?

Meanwhile, Landon Cassill raced his heart out for an 11th place finish and still earned less money than 20 of the 30 drivers who finished behind him...

Eh, I was always told to never give up, even if the task at hand may seem impossible. He did admit that he wasn't trying, but that doesn't exactly look good seeings how he is the most popular driver.

I thought he looked pathetic quite honestly...saving my car ...whatever.

Honestly, I think Jr. played it very smart. A lot of people on here seem to think that all Jr. had to do was to turn on the NOS and he'd be propelled to 1st place and get the win. Guys, this isn't Fast and Furious with terrible ricer cars. Stock car racing is as much of a mental sport as it is a physical one. There's a reason they call it "Chess at 200mph."

So make moves that could cause a wreck, and people still trash him for that "WELL AT LEAST HE TRIED!" like yeah I wish he tried harder, but I don't think he's a ***** for it, the only way he could have got a hole, was to make a hole and to do that, he'd likely end up crashing himself and half the field.

He COASTED AROUND...If you think thats cool, then we disagree about the definition of racing.

NO, he DIDN"T TRY....that is my gripe......

Try and stay with me here

He doesn't try, people bash him
He does try, causes a huge wreck, people still bash him.
If he tried, he wouldn't have made much more ground anyway, no where for anyone to go.
