Khane not in 5 next yr

Last year everyone was convinced junior would never race again. Not true.
Kenseth will be racing for jgr in 2018. Not true.
Kurt Busch will be racing for haas next year. Not true
Kasey Kahne will be in the 5 next year. Not true.
Several people other than bowman will be in the 88/hendrick is dropping the 88. All not true.
Someone other than Byron will be in the 5/ Byron says he isn't ready. Not true.

I don't know. Unrealistic expectations run rampant round these parts.

We've got a ton of new talent in this sport that is going to be fun to watch.

I think a lot of folks have developed a microwave mentality and want things immediately and if it doesn't happen then it is no bueno.

I felt that Dale Jr might hang it up after 2016 due to complications from concussions and in retrospect he should have as he is having a miserable year and just marking time.

I never gave a thought to Kenseth's situation as I didn't know anything about his contract and the same applies to Kurt Busch.

I thought Kahne would finish his contract in the 5 giving Byron another year in X but when all his sponsors left it was game on to get him gone.

I never thought that HMS would drop a team but I was hoping they would drop the 88 and go back to the 25. IDK who would drive the car but I figured Bowman was in the mix as he would come cheap and be easily replaceable if he tanked.

After it was reported that Byron said he wanted another year in X I figured that is what would happen but that whatever happened would be contingent on sponsorship. I figured that Rick Hendrick may be willing to sponsor half the races with a placeholder but would want funding for the rest.

I'm somewhat surprised that Liberty will be coming along to be the primary sponsor. That can't be cheap. I don't know anything about Liberty but props to them for the financial commitment.

I'm curious to hear who his crew chief will be
They are a...questionable university. That would be one way to put it. About the only thing I don't like about Byron.

Probably a topic best reserved for the Podium though.

Nature's Bakery made a 'financial commitment' too. 'M jus' sayin'.

10-4 as I know nothing about Byron or the University but I do know that its founder was polarizing.

That has been repeated numerous times here on this board, but I've never heard it from any credible media outlet. No one here has provided a link or anything to support it. That's no proof that William Byron did not say that, of course. But with all the articles and all the talking heads discussing this silly season, I would expect them to mention Byron saying that, if he actually said that.

alibabba was allegedly quoted as saying Byron wasn't going to be in the 5 car. hey it silly season right?

even more hilarious are all the people worrying about sponsors. do they actually think a Billionaire with141 Franchises, 99 Dealerships, 28 Brands, 43,000 Vehicles In Stock is going to have trouble keeping the 5 car on the freakin track? I guess he will have to sell his yacht Wheels..it is for charter, only 200,000 per week

I fully accept that he's capable of funding a fourth car from his own resources. The question is, is he so interested in having a four-car team that he'd run one out of his own pocket? He didn't get to have all those other resources by making (too many) questionable decisions.

oh brother, do you really think he won't have any sponsors?

Byron was the only move that made any sense. Glad he got the car and hope he continues what he's done in the lower series.
I agree. He's ready. How many Xfinty drivers have beaten the Cup drivers at both Daytona and Indy, much less in the same season. Much less in his rookie season.

I guess things change fast. Especially this silly season.
No kidding. My intel literally came from Byron's agent who, as of this past weekend, was working on the Xfinity contract. I wonder what changed. As I mentioned before, this move was definitely the "easiest" solution for HMS, but for whatever reason (I suspect other talks and/or have also heard they were thinking of parking the 5 for 2018 to allow Byron more experience, while allowing HMS more time to find full funding) they were set on another season of Xfinity.

Have you heard any talk of Kasey and any other teams for next year?

I think Matt is going to wind up in a clunker of a car or retired. Ugh .. seems ridiculous. He's an easy top 10 caliber driver in Nascar.

Still have the 27 and 77 rides still possibly open. I imagine Kahne will be at GMS or something, RCR still isn't that bad considering Newman still looks OK.

I think it will be a travesty if he is without a ride but maybe he is asking for decent money?

That makes sense as I never heard it from the horses mouth.

The 77 would be really sweet ... read something somewhere that the Toyota people are very fond of Matt, and I think he's professional enough to put any issues with JGR behind him. I'm just not sure the 77 can get the sponsorship they would need. I do know Truex/Kenseth would be a strong tandem for Furniture Row.

Makes the most sense for him to go here, plus the 77 is a very competitive car.

Your post makes sense as no team owner wants to have to fill in the role of sponsor too. It can be used as a stop gap but not a permanent solution. SOI has taken the same stand with Gene Haas that just because he is wealthy he will bridge the gap on funding for 4 cars next year. IDK where this line of thinking could have originated from.

What's his excuse this year?
Nascar made his car illegal because he and the 2 where kicking ass over the Toyotas. Now that Nascar has gutted the Fords, the Toys are up front again. This to will pass.
The funny thing is a single car team now running a Toyota is also kicking JGR's ass.
Even after Joe gutted the pit crew, he still beat them. I guess the backlash from the fans made him back off any further attempts to hurt the #78.
Bye the way no driver (except #48) stays on top always so Joey and Brad will take their turns down the ladder and then come back kicking ass again. Two guys that won't are Kenseth and Edwards.

Has it been a 100% official announcement yet? I mean what if we get a swerve and it isn't him? I'll wait until HMS themselves report it tbh.

Come on Charlie, you know the rich never use their own money, they divert tax money from the government to their own hobbies.
